Wouldn’t a forked plugin start out at 0 installs and 0 reviews and be a new entry into the plugin repository? In my opinion, this is not a fork - rather it is a takeover.
it's a scandal. first wordpress bans the accounts of wp engine. they no longer have access to the repo and can no longer upload updates. then wp comes along and says they don't update so we take the plugin away....
The dawn of a new brand of conical plugins: SecureCart (formerly SureCart), SecureForms (formerly WSForms) and Secure SEO (formerly Yoast SEO, he did speak up against Matt on the slack channel so…)
They actually DID do this. There is a second version of SCF on the Wordpress plugin repository and it is literally a nulled version of ACF Pro. I’m not complaining- Free ACF Pro. I wasn’t going to pay 200/year for ACF pro.
Nice, now Matt is showing even more aggressively that if he doesn't like you he can ruin your company if you use or support WordPress. This guy is singlehandedly decimating the trust of this platform. Just another absolutely despicable move by Mullenweg...
@@KennyGriffin I do. He didn't steal anything. The fact he cleverly engineered a takeover of an insecure plugin for everybody's good is legally irrelevant. It legal and included in the terms of the Plugin Repository agreement.

This is not fork. This is a theft in real time by Matt!!. They stollen ACF, renamed plugin as SCF, but in menu it appear as ACF ?????????? @@polarxta2833 You do not understand this. It's not just that they forked it (which is fine), they took over the reviews, the database, changing the update to install theirs instead. You can fork it but you can't replace it like Automattic forcefully did. It's theft and puts the whole ecosystem at risk.
@@uzi-rm They invoked part of the terms and conditions from the plugin repository. Its perfectly legal. You may not like what they did but that's just an opinion.
@@polarxta2833 Yes, that's why it puts the ecosystem at risk. If they act in bad faith like they've done here, then what is the incentive for devs to continue to contribute stuff like ACF? Sure, go ahead. But the cost is the trust of devs, the community and the users.
So Matt can steal anyone’s plug-in now? This is not forking it. They stole it and just changed the name if they wanted to fork it they would’ve created a completely new plug-in and uploaded it.
@@modemlooper Yep, it's insane. They changed the name, took control, but kept the slug the same so that millions of websites automatically update to the SCF version. It's actually insane behaviour from Matt/WP.
Since recently WP decided to introduce their core CF/CPT, I think there is a high chance that now this plugin will be ruined intentionally, to make people stop using it and switch to core option. In the same way that they push people to switch to FSE by adding essential updates only to FSE, but not to Classic themes. I think your video about Drupal will become more and more popular :)
Oh, we know the story. Matt tried to poach Heather Brunner, the CEO of WP Engine, and failed. Now it's basically a scorched earth campaign against them because little Matt got his feelings hurt.
Utterly hamfisted. They should have included the base funtionality in Wordpress itself and pushed out an update. Then they should have reimplemented the Pro functionality for half the price
MM is a pretty convincing salesman for literally any other cms. I need to get expert at something else quickly, leaning Statamic or Drupal. I hope your channel gets eggs in other baskets too
"on behalf of the WordPress security team" 🤣 come on Matt. it's on your behalf, you control everything when it comes down to it, stop this charade, it's getting pathetic by now, so sick of the gaslighting

Hostile Takeover !!!!
petty theft
Secure Custom Fields is now a non-commercial plugin... They can't do that gnu gplv2
This Wordpress beef is better than all HipHop beefs combined.

It is NOT a fork, They took over the database, reviews, slug, everything
Kidnapping.
so when you do a 'fork' of wordpress, you can take all the current installs/reviews etc with you as well?!
They do that because of security reason
In the case of fork - no. But if you take over WP for security reasons - yes.
Did one of the guys at WP-Engine steal Matt's girlfriend of something?
It’s the opposite, Matt was trying to poach heather brunner and his love went unrequited, so now he’s on the warpath.
Soon we will see Secure Custom Fields Pro from automatic 😆

No necessary. It would be worse SCF just add all the ACF Pro features for free.
You don't know Matt.. He'll will integrate it in core WordPress to hurt WP Engine

It's theft. They were locked out of the repository and couldn't patch their plugin. The security issue was minor.
Yeah, this was his plan from the start

Yes find another reason for takeover like another security bug. Soon all plugins would have Secure name as prefix for plugin name 🤣🤣🤣
So, because they didn't pay up 8%+ he took the plugin as a down payment…

Just use craftcms or Statamic or literally any CMS from the last decade and a half and you’ll just have a better time.
