    The more I see and hear this concert, the happier I am to have witnessed it. Mesmerizing from start to end. The old master himself behind the wheels and this young top orchestra from The Netherlands totally matched (NJO stands for National Youth Orchestra).
    During the show the musicians also felt something magical was going on, their manager told me afterwards.
    And that on a rock and pop festival like Lowlands. With a friend we took some time off after the show, to just sit on the grass and let it all sink in. No bands for the next hour at least.
    Thank you again Steve Reich and NJO.

    Most touching live performance on youtube so far ..... including Steve's irritation and relief in the final Pulses ... great groove and vibes! No need talkin' about imperfections ... is life always perfect?

    18:44 I fell in love with this girl. She is singing, smilling and feeling the vibe all the time! ❤️
    Year after year i see this concert. It's so great and all the people who went right there is very lucky. I envy you!

    The people that tap their feet or slightly bop their heads are so cool. If I were there, I'd be dancing with my entire body. Favorite musical work ever. Hands down.

    First heard/saw Part 1 of "Drumming" last night at a concert in Boston; was given link to this today. Both times, was in awe of the ways in which the performance itself and the music itself worked in conjunction. I was close to tears several times, especially at about minute 4, when a jazzy riff took root. And the video itself is extraordinary. Thanks!!!

    The music and the art itself has a magic and powerfull manner to comunicate. It's a language that moves you unconsciently and makes you feel the eternity of joy and the universal love within each us. There's no words to describe this.
    The only thing that you have to do is to feel. Art is the universal language of love.

    Fantastisch om mee te maken, bedwelmend van de eerste tot de laatste noot. Inderdaad, fantastisch dat dit ook kan op Lowlands. En het publiek in de Bravo was voorbeeldig...

    wat ongelofelijk knap van die marimba speler en die pianiste die het hele stuk strak tussen de maat kunnen blijven spelen.

    The tempo is extremely fast and it kind of falls apart at the end--but it still works with this rock audience.

    48:30 violinist is too early by nearly half a minute, and the marimba doesn't fade out till 3-4 pulses too late. Also, 49:21 is the look of a concerned composer knowing the group is not together, masked by professionalism. I'm afraid this performance had so much potential, but the big "cadence" back to the beginning was marred by significant timing inaccuracies.

    • @JonathanKandell
      @JonathanKandell 8 років тому

      I think because they're trying to go too fast tempo.

    • @tfpp1
      @tfpp1 8 років тому

      I'm just a fan of the piece. It's on my bucket list. So far, no recording has interpreted it the way I'd like to hear it....lol
      @ Jonathan, believe it or not, the tempo is actually good. The players simply don't know each other's parts that well, is all.

    • @JonathanKandell
      @JonathanKandell 7 років тому +2

      Kevin Garnica 53' one of the fastest I think.

    • @tfpp1
      @tfpp1 7 років тому +2

      Jonathan, oh that just means they didn't repeat as many times as others have. Steve Reich recorded the work twice with his own ensemble, and the first was approx. 56', the second was about an hour and ten minutes, so actual length isn't dependent on speed, it's a fluid piece of music.
      I also found more timing inaccuracies the more I listen to it. It's okay, I'm not upset, it just illustrates how difficult this piece is and how much respect and reverence it takes when approaching it for a performance - something I don't get from the performers all the time necessarily.

      Here’s what happened: when the 1st Bass Clarinet player gave the cue for the last chords pulses (Pulses 2), Piano 3 kept playing the pattern from Section 11 and fade out much later (on the 3rd chord) when it had to fade out with the xylophone after the cue. The pulsing Pianos (Pianos 1+2) and Marimbas (Marimbas 1+2) we’re playing the wrong notes (chords) while the pulsing chords where going through, lucky they were able to catch up on the 4th chord. And that is the reason you can see Steve’s concerning face at 49:22. Overall, the performance was great, despite the “accidental flop” on the beginning of Pulses 2

    Masterpiece built in the form of a pyramid apogee from 25:04, SR definitely rocks, but in my humble opinion it is missing a drum battery or a batucada ;)

    ""Music for 18 Musicians". A pity, the mix in this video is not too well. In this, everything must be balanced really well. Perhaps the sound in the hall was good, but I didn't see Reich too happy behind the mixer either. And this was Live, not a studio where you can endlessly tweak everything. It was certainly good enough for VPRO television. But I am spoiled. 😓 Reich deserves everything, to the ast bit. Exiting performance, by the way.. 🥳

    • @anonibass
      @anonibass 8 місяців тому

      And yes, there is another band going through the mix. I continously hear low noises, that absolutely not belong to this music.

    Захотели "живой" музыки? Извольте. Искала Лоуленд, а открылось это видео. Поразило с первых минут то, что музыканты исполняют, как на автомате. Замечательно справляется электронная запись, слушать час одно это ..? Интересно наблюдать за поведением людей по обе стороны. А почему на сцене курят (28:00)? Надеюсь, что последователей не будет такого сочинительского музыкального проекта. Штучный товар тем и ценен. Во, куда меня занесло...
