I don't know why folks are always trying to paint prius drivers as eco snobs. I'm interested in one because of Toyota's legendary reliability and yes, it gets great gas mileage!
I have to say that it's really stupid and pointless how he keeps pointing out the fact that it isn't quick. It's not a sports car, nor is it trying to be. That would be like me reviewing a Smart Car and bitching that it's too small for family's when that's not its target. I like the Prius but I give this review a thumbs down.
The Prius is reasonably quiet, excepting when I have my real estate signs clunking around in the back. It's nice for hauling customers around, reasonably comfortable. My 2006 gets 42 mpg, my 2004 got 40. I sold that one at 200k, trading up because I didn't want to replace the batteries. They have that problem solved now too. As for "slow". I never have any problems in the fast lane, when do you really get to open that Tesla up anyway, never. I have cruised to LA from the Bay Area at 80 many times, no problem, and amazingly maintain the 40 mpg at that speed. Slow is a fiction, who ever gets to do a quarter mile in 6 seconds anyway, not in my town.
I love my Prius. I sat 4 plus me comfortable on a 4 hour drive up north and no one person complained. They said they were comfortable and enjoyed the smooth quiet ride. Yes I have a Prius package 4 so maybe that makes a difference. And I have never had a car so dependable before. I have owned 2 Prius and neither one had any problems at all. Not true with the Hyundai's or Kia's I have owned. And I am one to trade every 2 to 3 years. But the Prius is here to stay this time.
As a prius owner this reviewer is so perfect. I do not give a fuck about emission I drive race cars but the prius as far as a daily car is easily one of the best.
The prius has a 0-60 of just over 9 seconds.... what the fuck are you talking about? Also, the volt is significantly more expensive, less reliable, and is a plug in vs 95% of the regular hybrid Prii
I just recently got one of these (same year, even) - sure, it has 178,000 miles on it, but it still runs like new, with the only two times it broke down for the previous owners being a flat tire and a dead 12V battery. Sure beats the 2009 G6 I had before that ate two timing chains and two transmissions in 100k miles.
the perfect zombie apocalypse car...600miles on a full tank of 12 gal, strap another 5 cans of 5 gal tank and you can cross the country into safer zombie free territories of Mexico
I live in the city. Only have to fill up gas every 3ish weeks? 2 if I’m driving a lot. And gas only comes up to around 16-18$ around 43mpg. Love my Prius man
I just bought my second Prius. The first one was a second generation that lasted over 306k with its original transmission, engine and hybrid battery. The second is a 3rd generation Prius IV that runs great with a better gas mileage.
It actually go from 0-60 in power mode in less than 8 sc not 10. Faster than Most car on the Road. It Have 2 Motor and the Electric Motor give instant torque then the gas power kick in.
Honestly I zip around in my Prius with little hold back in acceleration and my avg mpg is 50+ year round! Right now it’s 52.2! Last time I did a long 70+ mph road trip I got almost 65mpg while passing people on the interstate! And in PWR mode, it’s more fun to drive than any other compact car I’ve had AND still gets the same mpg! I just test drive the 2019 MAZDA3 for comparison, and was surprised by how great my Prius is!!
It is the perfect point a to point b car hands down. It's probably the only car I've come across that isn't bad at anything and is perfect at being what it needs to be.
I drove my grandfather's 2012 Prius Sport and it was very easy to drive. I loved driving it and was shocked at how the gas gauge never moved. I think it's a very good car, although not the most fun.
Yup, buy a 3rd gen Prius or a Volt used or an i3 used and it's pure win. Might have to wait a while for the price to come down on the latter 2 cars though but that's my plan
I just obtained a Prius gen 3 and if Toyota had explained that e-CVT is a completely misleading abbreviation, and truly it’s a revolutionary and robust automatic transmission wrapped in a car shape, I’d have bought one around ten years ago. I have an engineering background, and in the 1980’s tried to figure out how a differential setup, could be turned into a variable transmission. What I didn’t think of doing, was putting a gasoline engine on one of the shafts, and an electric motor-generator on each of the other two shafts. Yes, I see you, synergy drive. Great idea, begun in Berkeley University, then the concept was owned by General Motors for a while, who sold the patent to Toyota. It has no cones, no friction surfaces connecting and disconnecting, no pulleys or belts - completely, zero like a CVT as we all know it. There is a clutch, but it’s an emergency thing, for extremely infrequent occasions, hence you cannot tow, because it won’t let you tow much. I have had it ‘pop’ once in a while, it’s a quirk to do with having the cruise control on, but having to briskly unexpectedly halt eg like ‘surprise’ road works, etc. Then one of the motor-generators I believe, has some inertia to get rid of unexpectedly, and it does so by thumping this emergency clutch arrangement, shunting it round maybe just an inch or two. This quirk, goes right back to the origin of the transmission, in a differential concept. I found all sorts of issues when I tried to imagine it, back in the 1980’s as an engineering student, but Toyota have answered about every single one. It’s a brilliant refinement of the original design. I’ve had a lot of auto transmissions pack-in on me! Repair shops are hard to get that do a good job, and I have never once been satisfied with the end result, something always trashes the car soon after. So if I need an automatic transmission -,and for arthritis reasons, sciatica type issues I do - then this really is the absolutely most robust choice, and we now know, 11 years after this vid was made, 200,000 miles to 400,000 miles, is achievable just by changing the trans fluid every 40k miles or so. That is not the case, for any of the friction-surface based automatic transmissions, and everything else, is exactly that. The only better transmission, is the other fixed-meshed-gears systems like EVs have eg Tesla. At 60 and retired, this is my first Toyota. It has caused me to entirely re-evaluate the brand upwards. I don’t get 55mpg, I have just nursed it to it’s first 50mpg run, mostly urban, but the economy varies very little for me, even on our UK motorways (freeways/interstate roads). There are spells at speeds above 69mph (!) and even this doesn’t really dent the economy. I did a full car to Newcastle in the North, with a student daughter for her moving-in, and it was 49.8mpg. This is a 13-year-old car. Aircon was on all the time, not by much though. Speaking of which, this is the very first car where the interior airfilter actually works, filtering out smells, and I didn’t put in a carbon element either. The main reason for buying a hybrid is, in 2023 electricity is way more expensive, putting it in the same bracket as gasoline over here, in effect. And, more importantly, in a cold country, the heat output of that ICE is very comforting, and indeed a safety matter, if we walk in the hills and come back to drive home. I drove a Tesla and my feet got frozen, they insist on a single-slot air channel at chest height. I hope Toyota can weather this transition to EVs, they deserve to. Take care all.
I got 45-50 miles a gallon in my 2012 Prius no matter how i drive it and that to me is perfect. Over 200k miles and never had any major repairs just oil changes and new tires. Im going to drive in until the wheels fall off!
i just bought a prius and love it!! it helps because my 1989 supercharge mustang only gets 8 mpg. going from my prius to mustang it feels like 900hp..lol i start a jar when i fill up i put $20.00 in it to help pay the car off because thats the difference i would pay if i drive my other cars..
Granted, the Toyota Prius isn't for everyone. But that said, it makes sense on a lot of levels. (1) You're getting Toyota's badge of reliability which is a plus. (2) With the price of gas these days, getting a whopping 50 mpg is certainly good news. (3) I'm not exactly Mr. Environment. But it makes sense to build cars out of recycled materials because it leaves less waste around.
The prius is environmental worse than a Land Rover Discovery because the batteries and the distance between the resources being transported. The saving the environment with a pruis is bunk
I live in Tennessee. It does fine in the winter, but in the summer the air conditioner makes the engine run when it would otherwise be shut off at stops. I guess the air conditioner would also be running if you were defrosting in the winter. I turn the blower off a lot of times when I come to a stop light.
traded in my 13' wrx for a Prius 2 13' I love it. Don't get me wrong I love the wrx but I was putting 20$ every other day for gas and I'm just a college student. So I decided to get a more mpg car and choose the king of mpg haha
@Andrew Kyser, the batteries on a Prius are good for over 200,000 miles. So, what the heck are spouting off about. Go drive your Buick Roadmaster with the empty beer cans all over the interior! You know little about cars.
George McKean today, 7/2018, you can buy a battery reconditioning kit (of rebalanced proven good and new cells) for $1k. Easy to install in about 4 hours. Good for another 200k Miles.
when you pay high gas price for a gallon of gas. you will like Toyoto much more and kiss your Prius everyday. sometime people just don't like to change. look at the sale of hybrid in Japan. they are 85% global sale of hybrid vehicle. every vehicle will be hybrid in around 2020, but many automaker will avoid using the name hybrid. the stop/star will be standard for every gas engine vehicle, that is the fastest way to boost MPG. it will use a small Lithium-ion battery to power a small motor to crack the engine after the car is in "stop/star" mode and recharge the battery during braking. the exceed juice will power all the accessory. hey. that is what under hood of the Prius, but smaller scale. lol
A few weeks ago on the interstate a 8th gen Honda civic hybrid was on my tail while i was doing 80ishmph in my 7th gen civic. I got out of the left lane and the hybrid flew by me. I followed it down the interstate and the lady was doing 95+ with out any problem. I had a hard time keeling up with her. I was surprised that she was going that fast and maintaining that speed.
+Umer Farooq Depends on the Prius. Prius C, V or regular prius. Regular Prius handles well, don't notice any wind noise in mine and road bumps, it handles well. I'd say like a typical full size sedan. Its not rough nor bouncy when hitting a bump. Prius C, you get blown around on the road a lot, hear more wind/road nose and doesn't handle bumps as well. Still a decent car though.
Tire noise is a little more noticeable, but maybe just because of the decreased engine noise... Wind noise is low because of its design... And it's well designed with comfort in mind on the interior
I drive a Prius Two 2015 for 10 hours a day doing Uber/Lyft and I'm impressed with the 47-51 mpg I achieve daily. I've had plenty of compliments from my passengers about how comfortable the back seat is. They cannot believe how roomy and quiet this vehicle is. You'll hear some road noise at high speeds, but this can be treated with some low cost undercarriage coating.
It's going to be less comfy than your maxima. it's an ecomony car not af ull size family car. But it will be a lot more smooth driving wise. There's not windnoise. Mine has a tad because of repairs to right fender.
I used to do the same thing until I learned I have more money left over at the pump than when I was laughing. Now I laugh because the man laughing at me has less money but still thinks he special.
he most likely live in the City or metro Area, WRX come only in manual, and to drive an WRX in a metro area is like shooting yourself in the foot, Prius have the Cvt transmission perfect for traffic and city driving.
I don't personally like the Prius, but you can't argue with it's sales success. Apparently the hundreds of thousands of owners know something that I don't.
The "green car" marketing communication about hybrid and electric cars in general is the biggest mistake. Futuristic and science-fiction like vibes would be a much better selling point
People that go fast in a hybrid are stupid. A car is only as efficient as its driver. My 12 year old car can get up to 37 mpg and still do 0-60 in 8.5 and top out at 110(GM limited because tire ratings). I'll stick with that.
Driving the Prius feels slower than it's capability, because the throttle is tuned to get the most out of your fuel. 1/4 throttle on the Prius is not like 1/4 throttle of a normal gas car with the same 134hp. If you step on it, it will suffice for nearly all traffic situations. Otherwise it would not have been such a popular car in the US.
I like my wife's Prius in just about every way, except for the traction control, which isn't perfect in any vehicle I know of. If you ever have to start on a steep slope with loose gravel it won't go until it gets to some solid surface.
The most North American car is a Toyota Camry in terms of parts and final assembly point so yeah it might be a foreign company but far more American than the Big 3. Yeah I'd be interested in a Tesla for test driving but not owning.
@JGMURPY1 They do, the Citroen DS5 and Peugeot 3008 hybrid are diesel hybrids, but are not as good in economy, but really close considering that both are large heavy cars. Volvo's C/V/S60 Plug in hybrid gets +150mpg (imp gallon). I'm guessing most makers don't make diesel hybrids is that both diesel and hybrid are expensive and a diesel exhaust system takes up more space than a petrol's.
I Haul ass in my 2010 Prius for 2 years on highway mileage mainly and average 53.4 miles at a total of 80,000 miles as i just traded in for the 2012, so u do get that mileage haulin ass in power mode
Getting a used car will always be better for the environment than ordering a new car. Getting a 15 year old used truck will be much better for the earth than ordering a new hybrid.
you sure that thing lack storage space? but i do agree, its not a luxury car by any mean, they made the car that way on purpose, they going for a minimalist kind of thing, but its good to know the money is going under the hood instead of the badge err hem BMW
The only thing that always come across my thought .. That all that power and acceleration .. jumping from 0 to 60 in a little less then 10 seconds .. For how long that power it will lass 10 years OR 100,000 miles ? I mean I think in it is just my opinion I still think cars are way too expensive
deal with it haters. Prius is here to stay whether you like it or not. It is, in fact, the future, because Mitigation is the future. The move towards alternatives like electric vehicles, hydrogen power, solar power, coal powered, etc. are too optimistic. With the way economy is behaving, those alternatives won't be going mainstream any time sooner. So grow up, and learn to accept the truth.
This looks alot better than the 2010-2011 look. The rims on those look like shit, cause I own one. I love how nowadays basically all major automaker makes a fuel efficient car.
the 2012 nissan gtr is no slug of a car it can be most cars in a race track and u get not that bad fuel economy when u leave the track on your way home
Buying Prius to save the environment a little makes sense specially in cities like LA or NYC, buying Prius to save money on the fuel is stupid because you are not saving jack shit for the price you pay for the car. Cars like Elantra, Mazda 3, Focus, or even Dart all have better design, more power and lower prices. The difference between the prices & the saving on the fuel is almost the same, well I hope u drive a lot to get your money worth.
Sure it's helps U.S. workers and then a majority of that money ends up being syphoned off to help their economy overseas. It's all about supporting the company that support's the American economy the best regardless of what type of product they sell. Remember, if you send money overseas you are reducing our money supply at home which in turn creates a lack of currency for Americans. The closer to home you keep your money, the better off you'll be.
im1greatman I'm sure that the trickle down method also works so well. Honestly, these CEO's don't really care about what is affordable for the American people, otherwise, they would compete better. They are pocketing any extra dollar that they get. Meanwhile, we're picking on regular civilians for trying to save a buck.
I don't know why folks are always trying to paint prius drivers as eco snobs. I'm interested in one because of Toyota's legendary reliability and yes, it gets great gas mileage!
By the time you made your comment, the eco snobs can be identified by a Tesla with a vanity EV plate
Everyone I know that has one has never brought up being an environment lover. They all say the same thing. They got for how amazing it is on gas!
I love driving my Prius. It's simple, efficient, smooth, easy to park, and it saves money on gas.
Glad to hear you love it!
LearnAmericanEnglishOnline yup i agree. Takes me from point A to B and plenty of space for my stuff
I have to say that it's really stupid and pointless how he keeps pointing out the fact that it isn't quick. It's not a sports car, nor is it trying to be. That would be like me reviewing a Smart Car and bitching that it's too small for family's when that's not its target. I like the Prius but I give this review a thumbs down.
exactly.
I know right it goes without saying but he did say they fly by him on the freeway 😅
I love my 2013 Prius. The most reliable used car I’ve ever owned!

Hey. That review was done in San Pedro California.
very nice review
How comfortable is the Toyota Prius? Wind noise? Road bumps? I currently have a 2003 Nissan Maxima
I've heard it's not very good... check out Edmund's review
+Umer Farooq Depends on the Prius. Prius C, V or regular prius. Regular Prius handles well, don't notice any wind noise in mine and road bumps, it handles well.
I can only imagine how fuel efficient and torquey a disel hybrid would be
he most likely live in the City or metro Area, WRX come only in manual, and to drive an WRX in a metro area is like shooting yourself in the foot, Prius have the Cvt transmission perfect for traffic and city driving.
I've wondered too. I'm guessing cost is the big thing. Diesel cars and hybrids tend to be more expensive, so the price for both would be quite a lot.
I don't personally like the Prius, but you can't argue with it's sales success. Apparently the hundreds of thousands of owners know something that I don't.
I drive fast and aggressive in the SF Bay Area and still get 45-46 mpg on my 10 year old Prius
Why were you not talking about Solar Panel on the Prius
Kinda random question, but since you mentioned you have a Prius, how does it do in winter? Chicago winters can be brutal!
The "green car" marketing communication about hybrid and electric cars in general is the biggest mistake. Futuristic and science-fiction like vibes would be a much better selling point
I am a fast driver. Will a Prius be good for me?
Oh, also, I think the traction control could be a problem in slick, winter situations.
hybrid by toyota: the best technology
I have a Jeep also for extreme off road and winter driving.
i
Thanks a lot!
was most of the video take place in Long Beach CA?
Don't forget, reliable.
I'm considering purchasing this vehicle pretty soon. How do you get 60 mpg in the city?
Get out at 50 miles and push it for the last 10.
I love Prius
Getting a used car will always be better for the environment than ordering a new car. Getting a 15 year old used truck will be much better for the earth than ordering a new hybrid.
why not a diesel electric combo? I'm just curious why no company in America hasn't done it? (not counting the price of diesel)
Lets face it, the real reason behind the resale value is the badge on it.
I like his shirt!
Still the best car i ever had
you sure that thing lack storage space? but i do agree, its not a luxury car by any mean, they made the car that way on purpose, they going for a minimalist kind of thing, but its good to know the money is going under the hood instead of the badge err hem BMW
The right pedal still makes you slow.
+Hamza Ferzghi is that Iruka sensei?
I have vowed never to get a Prius.
I don't know what they were thinking, My corolla's got the same problem
Insight = timing bomb. Honda did not pour enough thought on it.
I hate how the gage cluster is in the center and not in front of the steering wheel
Is it true that Prius taxi's get up to 2,000,000 miles?
to be honest, i think that the 2010 version look better
Agree, thank you
This looks alot better than the 2010-2011 look. The rims on those look like shit, cause I own one. I love how nowadays basically all major automaker makes a fuel efficient car.
Oh and btw my brother has a Toyota Yaris and he gets 45-59 mpg average just mentioning cause It's a cheaper car but no electric engine
is that the 5 model ornotherd
I pick priuses out of the grill of my 69 Cadillac !
thank god!
Long Beach 🧡
the 2012 nissan gtr is no slug of a car it can be most cars in a race track and u get not that bad fuel economy when u leave the track on your way home
yeah, me too
Buying Prius to save the environment a little makes sense specially in cities like LA or NYC, buying Prius to save money on the fuel is stupid because you are not saving jack shit for the price you pay for the car. Cars like Elantra, Mazda 3, Focus, or even Dart all have better design, more power and lower prices. The difference between the prices & the saving on the fuel is almost the same, well I hope u drive a lot to get your money worth.
Why dont they make diesel hybrids? those could get like 100 mpg..
Take your Prius back to Toyota, there is something wrong. My Prius brakes work seamlessly.
Then, why bother watching the video?
haha this guy is so funny, fantastic review!!
