Re: "The Core of the Sun", I'm pretty sure that you know that eloys and morlocks were named by HG Wells in his 1895 novella "The Time Machine" although you didn't mention it. I haven't read the newer book so wonder how much its author uses this as a joke and how much as a clue? My favourite read this year? Adam Kay's "This Is Going To Hurt" which tells of his time as young doctor in the NHS and, it could be argued, might as easily be filed under 'dystopia' as 'autobiography' given what he reveals about the inner workings of our nation's pride...
Yep, for the sake of brevity, there were a lot of little tidbits that I had to leave out! It's more of a joke and intertextual reference, I think (i.e. the Morlocks don't end up eating the Elois!), although there may be some sort of deeper and metaphorical comment on the relationship between the two sisters (Manna and Vanna)... I'd have to reread it before I make a more definite comment! I've heard good things about Kay's books, especially given their longevity on the bestseller lists! Hopefully the future of the NHS is not too dystopian as we move in to another decade...
my number one book of 2019 is animal farm
How'd you get your hands on a copy of that?
