    How can people not like this man, the bookies didn't have a thought for taking his old man's money which resulted in barney having no shoes as a kid, all he done is got back what was rightly his with a little more besides, pure genius. R.I.P Barney Curley.

    You should do more of this Caan, plenty of gambling legends to pick from. Some fascinating stories of bookies being caught with their pants down which always cheers people up.

    Barney is one of many colourful characters that have plied their trade against the enemy, he once lost £350,000 in a day at the races without batting an eyelid...He's also won £350,000 in a day -and he didn't get too excited about that, either! The day he lost £350,000 he was quoted as saying "its only money and you cant take it with you"I knew I'd make it up. If I put less than £10,000 on a horse it would mean I didn't rate it and that was 1989...He also brought the Newmarket home of Flamboyant failed super punter Terry Ramsden who was estimated to have lost more than 77million in the 1980s....Considering Ramsden was once the 57th richest man in Britain it was a big fall from grace to end up in prison in 1987..

    • @tobraham
      @tobraham Рік тому

      Ian Terry was a true great he ended in prison because one of the socall big bookies he bet with says he fail to pay a bet also he said he was bankrupt but he had money. A few years back he was punting in America why because nobody knew who he was. In fact he bet 2million on his horse that one no one in these days bets that a mount on horses simply so called bookies wouldn't except this they are not bookies now in UK bookies win profit of over 12 billion a year. One wm hill it's not wm hill it's American company now who ownes it and bett 888 the other half. And if you watch South African racing as I bet now . Watch hills returns of winners and forecasts are some differences to other bookies in UK.

      Long before Harry Findlay was well known I was at a dog track and we were chatting about punting and it was when snooker was making its debut on TV. He wasnt scared of betting 1/7 about Steve Davis or Terry Griffiths as he knew that the bookies had under-priced these professionals. In those early days snooker on Tv was in its infancy and the bookies weren't too au fait with value etc and Harry enjoyed their generosity. 🙂

    Barney states that the channel need investigating i for stating prices because the prices the channel states are only available with the bookies to mug punters and they won't take shrewd money.
    'You couldn't have 2 bananas to a banana with the bookmakers.

    Why is everyone applauding this cheat that traded on inside information? And do you really believe that Yellow Sam wasn't deliberately held back in its previous races? Don't forget that barney will have cheated other punters out of their money on that day. Bookies are bad but Barnie is no better.

  • @kingkompany5908

    I see no one in the comments section here backed any of his runners in the many 'prep' races for these betting coups.
    I remember a horse (rated mid 70s) was transfered to his yard and a well-known tipster said "the BHA could save us all a lot of time and money and just drop the horse 15 lbs now". Sums it up pretty well for me.
    I won't say what I really think but there's more to this than just Curley v the bookies. There's a third party involved in the shape of 1000s of punters who were short changed along the way.
    Let's not brand his as some sort of hero.
