I never thought the running gag that Dimitri gave a girl a dagger would be used later in the plot to such a heavy degree.

nuen I only figured out the answer to Dimitri’s question(the one during the ball), BECAUSE it was a running gag, lol. I remember that I read Sylvain and Dimitri’s support prior and when the question came up at the balloon I went “ooooooh, fuck did he give Edelgard the dagger?”
I got it from "it's Dmitri so it'd obviously a dagger"

According to Fire Emblem Heroes, Dimitri is not the only Blue Lion who eats weeds. Ingrid says you can parboil them, chop them up, and put them in an oat porridge that's pretty filling, if you don't mind the taste.
