We used an air duct pipe (cheaper, wider & doesn't rust) and placed a large silver platter from the dollar tree turned upside down over the top. The platter extends past the cylinder, this is for the super energetic jumpers when they pull down or happen to land it gives way and they fall. In the 5 years since my husband MacGyver'd this not one squirrel or raccoon has succeeded. We affectionately call it the Tesla Coil. A real conversation piece as everyone asks us about it. 😂
Excellent simple well explained video. I purchased a 60 inch x 5 inch wide duct tube. Can I just stand it at the bottom of my feeding pole without attaching a cap or letting it hang. My pole comes in four sections that easily unscrew and I am only up to the part where I inserted the base into the ground and attached two of the pole sections. Actually there are tons of rocks in my sandy soil so I had to dig a hole to semi set the base. I poured cement in and added water and then pushed all the dirt back. I left all the rocks around the base.
Thanks for the great project. Do you have any ideas to protect the top of the feeder? The squirrels jump from the roof of the house to the bird feeder.
The best and easiest solution I've found is to hang bird feeder from a common shepherd's hook, coat the pole with Vaseline. Squirrels just slide down. For a few weeks you have to re-coat after a hard rain, but soon squirrels are so discouraged they quit trying, for a while anyway!

Show us a picture of the invention. The squirrel eats the seed every day!!!

Brilliant, thank you!
Simple, brilliant!
Thank you great idea. 🍁🍂🍁💚🙃
I just feed them too and don't worry about it. They are just as entertaining as the birds IMHO.
