Would have been nice to have see the dress modeled!
if you do the hemming first of the arms and neck line then piece the two faces together it is alot easier to hem everything!!! and make sure you do stay stitching so the fabric does not tear when you place in the wash other wise this is a quick and easy idea!!! :)
What a darling little shift dress. So easy to just sew up a few of these. Short (top) or long (dress), fancy or plain. You're so clever to break this down to the simplest form. Creative. Love it.
Next time you try this; try using a serger to sew the side and shoulder seams. It gives a much cleaner and professional look. You may want to hem the bottom, neck and arm holes before putting the dress together.
I like your presentation. This is great ,because I only have a straight stitch old Singer sewing machine.
Okay so half inch seam allowance....right sides together, side seams first, then shoulders. Fold over once preferably twice for edging, then hem....got it. Thanks! I wonder what would be the best fabric? don't want full cotton would like something abit stretchy and comfortable without the wrinkling.....a poly blend perhaps??? also, want to make this with a boat neck....
I think a decent cotton jersey would work best, got some structure but not too much stretchiness that it would go baggy. You'd be best to go into an actual fabric store to feel the weight and stretch, c x
Best demo I have seen. Thankyou. Please make more videos.
I'm such a dress person I wear them in the winter with thermals or sweat pants under them. I have this really nice green skirt though, that's warm enough not to have to do that. I just finished my semester at school so I may try and do something like this.
Nice video and pattern but was always taught 1) neck decoration and facings 2) shoulder seams 3) insert sleeves/sleeve facings 4) under sleeve and side seams 5) hem. If inserting darts they are done before 1). And I was always taught to use honeycomb or zigzag on stretch fabrics. Maybe things have changed in the last 50 years though that dress design looks a lot like those we wore as teenagers, but they were shorter, worn over jeans or similar and called smock tops.
The facings and hand hemming makes it so much more professional looking...
I think I'd use a zig-zag stitch on that fabric. this dress is so cute!
Hem before sewing together makes it easier
Thnx
Easier to sew one shoulder seam, them turn under neckline and sew, same with the armholes. Much easier than turning under a sewn armhole to hem, and the neckline is quick to do also. Nice dress. I would use it more as a tunic with leggings!
an easy thing to do if you quickly want to iron the hemline is to use a hair straightener, just dont turn the temperature high enough that you melt whatever fabric that is being used.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 💟
I have a linen shift dress could I do exactly same as you've done.?
I would have thought so, and it would probably be easier as there's no stretch in the fabric, c x
you could use a 1/8'' seam foot to seaam up the edges quickly
On the stretchy fabric, what size stitch are you using? e.g Long stitch length
I wish you would have held the dress up so that you could see it better.
Nice video, Very creative!!!!
Are you even going to link the next part in the description so people can locate it?
I really liked it. Thanks
How would you do this with fabric that is not stretchy. I can see this with something to wear to a more formal gathering....want to use fabrics such as brocade or Sari fabrics.
Pity we didn’t get to see the the finished product modelled. 😢
I have a difficult time finding cute poly knit fabric, is it suitable foe cotton knits also? Or is it too clingy in cotton? Also, how many yards of fabric is needed, I think I might have missed that in the video.
I always hem first before I sew the whole dress depending on the fabric
would you be able to sew a sequin fabric using a normal matchine? im starting to make my own party dresses.. im only a beginner tho
hey this really realyy helps!
What was the yardage at the start? In US please
Next time have her wear one of her dresses while doing the demo. Thanks
Please remove the pink and white words " The Crafts Channel ". They're very bothersome when trying to watch the video - which is quite well done, in fact.
I Agree! Not necessary, have them at the end credits
Please let me know the brand and model of your machine, thanks kindly
@alyssiaart12 I know but with that lady's complexion and hair colour I think that colour would suit her well. :)
Brilliant!!!!
What about staystitching?
It doesnt look like shes using the right tension settings...
How do you sew stretchy fabric on a domestic machine? Is it elastic thread?
No, you need a needle for stretch fabric. And it's better to use zigzag stitch than straight stitch. Use normal thread.
I always find my material wants to crease under the foot and then it stitches on creases :S
When I tried finishing the neck like you did, the neckline stretched and distorted. 😤😤 what did I do wrong?.
See there no replys to questions
@naidz0006
i think its JUKI from what i can see
Great! How much material did you buy for this ? 1 yard?
nice
Why doesn’t she turn it inside out to sew the neck and armhole lines so you can actually see how much your sewing and not go by feeling amount sewn?
ikr,, i was jus guna saii dahh! lol
خوب
It's a bit more professional looking to cut the facings to attach to the collar and armholes, then hand stitch those to the dress, instead of hemming the way you did....Even hand hemming looks much better than hemming with the machine
Rashi
this is NOT a NO PATTERN dress, you are using an old dress as a pattern!!!
that must be so awkward for that blonde chick.. ;)
Tessariah Rose b aSterrtyg
Tessariah Rose you seem to be pulling the fabric through the machine quite a lot. Am I right
hey this really realyy helps!
