    Probably my favorite ending. All by yourself, you wipe out those Kuei-Jin bastards and their POS priestess for good, you destroy the LA Camarilla, LaCroix gets his ass kicked the way he deserves, and you give the Anarchs the finger. You even walk away from a wall of flames like a badass.
    (Don't get me wrong, I like the Anarchs and the Anarch ending, but Nines, Damsel and Skelter are kinda dickish to you for most of the game, so it's fun to see your character walk past Nines without even looking at him)

      Camarilla is not exactly destroyed, because Strauss is still out there, what we do is remove a renegade loose cannon (LaCroix), but the entire place belongs mainly to Anarchs so I guess things stay more or less at status quo.

    • @HerculeDevantrien

      @Master Exploder Yeah, the Los Angeles Camarilla was just one branch of a worldwide organization, so I'll guess they'll try and seize control of the city again, but the actions of the main character have definitely weakened them for a while.
      (Apparently, according to the White Wolf Wiki, there are three possible outcomes, depending on the expanded universe material you're referring to or to the version of the pen and paper RPG you're playing. Either a Camarilla princess tries to take over the city but is quickly overthrown by the Thin-bloods, or the Anarchs manage to maintain control over LA, or the Camarilla takes advantage of the threat posed by the Inquisition to negotiate a truce with the Anarchs and reestablish a Prince as head of the city)

      @@SHDW-nf2ki I believe that from a purely ideological standpoint the Anarchs are the better option, but yeah, that's only in theory. It's easy to argue that in practice, they reproduce all the flaws in the Camarilla's system, only with different vocabulary and aesthetic - something the game points out in multiple occasions.

      Worth noting that the real mastermind behind the plot was Smiling Jack (Anarch) working with Cabbie/Caine. They essentially threw the damn thing in the middle of city and enjoyed the fireworks when all factions to decided to destroy/diablerize/hide whatever was supposed to hide inside. It could be a test by Caine to see if his progeny is worth saving, or it could just be a prank. The Thin-Blood from Santa Monica said you can only trust Mercurio and Beckett, so I rest my case.

      Neither would I, and I like to think that a classy Kindred (like your typical Ventrue or Toreador) would have the good sense to find a more civil or courteous way of turning Nines down than that.
      The protagonist should save the blatant shows of disrespect for Damsel and Skelter, who actually _did_ disrespect him/her at various points in the story. Nines only gets a bit cross when accused of being a "Prince of the Anarchs," and even then he honors some measure of restraint.

    I patched my version up to 4.7 and the endings are slightly different. With the lone wolf ending, The Prince says he'll "crush you like paper" before opening the Box Of Doom.
    In any ending where the Box of Doom explodes, Jack says something about it being thrown out there simply to get all the factions to fight each other.
    I think my Malkavian summed it up best: "I'M SO SICK OF THAT BOX" and "Give you a massive chest wound, you say? My pleasure!"

      @BloodyBay Jannet is the Anarch Therese is Camarilla Baroness

    • @BloodyBay
      @BloodyBay  3 роки тому

      @@Докторпарадокс As I suggested in the previous comment, the Camarilla doesn't have any Barons in their hierarchy. Every Camarilla city has a Prince, along with several aides and lieutenants between the Prince and the rank-and-file...a Seneschal, a Sheriff, a Scourge, a Herald, one or more Alastors, one or more Whips, one or more Harpies, one or more Keepers of Elysium, possibly one or more Hounds, possibly a Chancellor, and a Primogen representing each Clan present in that city. Above the Prince, you have the Archons, the Justicars, possibly a Dux Bellorum or an Imperator in times of great contention, all the way up to the Inner Circle themselves. There are no Barons in the mix, at least not for the Camarilla.
      Among the Anarchs, however, a Baron is the equivalent of a Prince, ruling his or her own slice of territory with the aid of several aides and lieutenants: Reeves, Coyotes, Sweepers, Molotovs and such. As the Anarchs aren't big fans of power structures or figures of authority, there are no Anarch ranks above Baron, and Baronies may ally with each other but are not bound together by any Inner Circle of their own; this assures each Barony of their independence, yet makes their task of calling in reinforcements or other aid in times of need all the more problematic.
      As the story of Bloodlines suggests here and there, the Camarilla, in their smugness, identify Anarchs as subjects yet make little or no accommodation to recognize their respective ranks in Anarch society; a Prince often holds a Baron in no higher regard than he would regard a run-of-the-mill neonate. The Anarchs, of course, are free to either scoff at the Camarilla's overtures at authority or play along and masquerade as loyal subjects, the better to conduct reconnaissance, study the Camarilla's ranks and prepare themselves for whenever the time becomes ripe for the Anarchs to rebel against the Camarilla.
      Anyway, Jeanette and Therese are _both_ Anarchs. Therese is the Baroness of Santa Monica, while Jeanette is just...Jeanette. As Jeanette is the owner and manager of the Asylum, her equivalent rank in the Camarilla would be Keeper of Elysium, but the Anarchs don't seem to recognize that rank. And how their merge into "Tourette" (if indeed the story takes that turn in your hands) affects Therese's title - and Jeanette's lack of title - is never determined; Malkavians with multiple identities are quite the odd assortment.

(I'm not sure if allowing the Gargoyle to live and join the Anarchs will also tank your relations with Strauss, as I've never done that.) • @BloodyBay
      @BloodyBay  5 років тому +5

      The short answer is that the protagonist _doesn't_ have any idea that there's a bomb in the Sarcophagus. This is by Jack's design; if nobody else knows, then Prince LaCroix - the bomb's intended target - won't know either.
      The long answer: It's not that the protagonist ever hears, "There's a bomb in the Ankharan Sarcophagus," it's simply that several characters throughout the game tell you that opening the Sarcophagus would be unwise...Beckett, Strauss, Rosa (the Thinblood woman on the beach) and some mysterious person or entity who sends an email to you. It's unlikely that Beckett and Strauss are aware that Jack replaced the contents of the Sarcophagus (King Meserach's remains, a perfectly ordinary mummy) with a bomb; they're both scholarly sorts, and they seem to have deduced that there's an Antediluvian inside the Sarcophagus and that therefore, opening the Sarcophagus and releasing the Antediluvian would be a Very Bad Thing...namely, jumpstarting Gehenna, the End of Days for the Kindred.
      Rosa is psychic, and her premonition is what warns her (and, through her, the protagonist). But the premonition is vague; she doesn't know what's in the Sarcophagus, she only knows that opening the Sarcophagus would be bad. For all she knows, the bad thing inside the Sarcophagus could be a bomb, an Antediluvian, a flesh-eating supervirus, two-dozen rabid undead parakeets or anything else.
      The mysterious emailer could be Beckett, it could be Strauss or it could even be Jack himself. It might even be _Caine_ himself. Or it could be someone else entirely. We're never given any certain clues to the emailer's identity or to his/her rationale for trying to warn you, unfortunately. Of course, whether you heed any of these warnings or disregard them is entirely up to you.

But since the mark receives no mention in Bloodlines and very little mention in the original Vampire books (The Book of Nod and Gehenna are the only two books I recall mentioning the mark), this could have been a simple oversight on Troika's part, that or they just reused the model from the normal cabbie.

  • @BloodyBay
    @BloodyBay  17 років тому +2

    Yeah, I can appreciate how Troika didn't reduce the LaCroix encounter to another boss fight. You just got done slugging it out with his Sheriff, after all. The Sheriff somehow wouldn't seem as necessary to LaCroix's seat of power if LaCroix were an even greater skull-cracker than the Sheriff was.

  • @BloodyBay

    So I just have to wonder how Smiling Jack and Caine would have met. Did Caine pick Jack (of all the Kindred) to be his envoy for some peculiar reason, or are Jack's manhunting skills so vastly great that he managed to find the Dark Father and somehow persuade Caine to help him oust LaCroix?

    So I too like how the two characters were handled. They made LaCroix a purely political villain, and they didn't cheapen the super-formidable Sheriff in doing so. So the "Oh, crap" moment where you meet the Sheriff and realize "He busted up all those Sabbat goons without breaking a sweat, yet he took off his trenchcoat just to fight me? He must think I'm a bad-ass, and I know he's a bad-ass, and this is going to be the fight to end all fights"...that moment is preserved. :-D

  • @SirBlackReeds
    @SirBlackReeds 10 років тому +6

    How do you get the solo ending? And to anyone pining for a sequel, at most we will get a spiritual successor. The multiple endings thing makes it kind of hard to make a sequel. Heck, even if in a new game they brought back Jack (aka the best character in Bloodlines) he wouldn't be able to say much about the Santa Monica event.

    • @BloodyBay
      @BloodyBay  10 років тому +7

      The loner ending the easiest path to take, actually. No matter what you do, Caine the Cabbie will _always_ give you the option of pursuing the loner ending; in fact, if you tick off LaCroix, tick off Ming Xiao, tick off the Anarchs _and_ tell Isaac Abrams that the Gargoyle once belonged to Regent Strauss, it's possible that the loner ending will be the _only_ ending available to you. It's the option (usually at the very bottom of the list of choices) that says something along the lines of "I want to forge my own destiny" or "No one is my master" or something like that. When Caine the Cabbie asks "Where to?", just pick that one.
      (Note that I said "easiest path," not "easiest ending". The LaCroix and Kuei Jin endings are by far the easiest to reach because you don't have to fight your way through both the Venture Tower _and_ the Golden Temple, just one or the other. The Camarilla, Anarchs and loner endings require you to fight through both armies of goons as well as both LaCroix's Sheriff and Ming Xiao's devil form. But the two easy endings are also the two _bad_ endings, while those last three endings all end well (as long as you don't open the sarcophagus yourself). Good luck!

      Well there was going to be what I felt was a spiritual successor in the cancelled CCCP Vampir.e MMO World of Darkness.
      I would love a new single player Vampire the Masquerade RPG either in the vein of Redemption or Bloodlines. Even though there was not much to do in the world at least Bloodlines gave you areas of a city to explore, just imagine how much more fun it would be in a gigantic open world. Would love another game where you have to adhere to the rules of the Masquerade. Imagine if they threw in a day time/night time system..
      Honestly if they do a good job with Cyberpunk 2077 would love for CD Projekt Red to take on Vampire the Masquerade.
      Also VTM:Bloodlines has I think of of the best video game soundtracks and video game scores ever. The music fits it perfectly.

    • @SirBlackReeds
      @SirBlackReeds 10 років тому +1

      thepayne An open-world game would be pretty hard. The sandbox-type thing Bloodlines had made the permanent night excusable, but an open-world with no time progression... I'm not sure how many will give that a pass.
      And the problem with a night/day system is calculating how many real life seconds are equal to one hour in the game. It needs to be long enough that you can actually get stuff done but short enough so that you don't get cocky and feel a sense of urgency when time starts running out.

    • @BloodyBay
      @BloodyBay  10 років тому +2

      jacoblgames Maybe that problem would be solved by giving the MMO world a standard eight-hour night, then thirty minutes of daytime (when the Kindred can hang out inside the Elysium of their choice, chat, discuss what they plan on doing with the next nightfall and/or replenish themselves in their coffins). Of course, if the characters are still _outside_ when the sun rises, they risk Final Death unless they can get inside and away from the sunlight in time; Fortitude might give you a bit more leeway here, but you still have to get inside before your vampire crumbles to ash and forces you to roll up a new character.
      After that half-hour, the server fast-forwards to the next nightfall, and the Kindred are free to roam the streets again. Time-contracting the daytime might be all that we need to give the players a sense of urgency to finish their business and get to Elysium, and at the same time preclude the preposterous spectacle of an endless night. What do you think?

    Well I've recently started playing redemption and have a greater respect for the different clans and I'm kind of disappointed because the anarchs original clan in the redemption world was such a greater purpose. In this one they've just turned into angry little bees whose sole purpose is to fight against the camarilly and trust that their anarchy wont allow anyone to do whatever they want. So now i'm bummed about the anarchs because they seem childish in this new perspective.

  • @Solomon43822
    @Solomon43822 12 років тому +1

    And the kind of freedom they're after can only make the vampire race in the game slowly become that much worse off, without a greater pure purpose or something behind everything they do that encourages them to strive to be better, they will eventually slowly get worse. The camarilly use fear, shock, and awe to force vampires to adhere to a code. The protheans pursuit of knowledge strove them to live the way they did. One last post about the sabbat and my views.

    I liked the camarilla ending myself, you kill the prince guy and get to serve a purpose that actually holds order, I know they force obedience somewhat, but unlike the anarchs, no chaos is important. The anarchs would allow vamps to run wild on the humans. The prince was a dictator, but siding with camarilla alone held lots of promise on its own.

    • @jimakisspd
      @jimakisspd 4 роки тому

      The Camarilla were useless idiots who couldn't even protect their own ranks from a tyrran like Lacroix who allied with the Kuei Jin for his own vain ambitions!!!

    • @BloodyBay
      @BloodyBay  4 роки тому +11

      @@jimakisspd The Camarilla as a whole were not responsible for that; LaCroix simply pulled a fast one on them. That's why the Camarilla's Inner Circle also has Justicars, Kindred who outrank Princes and whose entire job is to walk the earth, check in on Princes and their Princedoms and make sure that everything's running as it should be...and if it's not, the Justicar is typically attended by one or more Archons, whose job is to restore order by any means necessary, even if those means include removing a troublesome Prince from power and taking his/her place until the local Primogens elect a new Prince.
      So it seems that our Protagonist, with Regent Strauss' help, simply did the Justicars' job before the Justicars themselves could.

    The bad news was that the Gladius Dei was wearing silver knuckle dusters, and he punched the Wendigo in the chest to the tune of 5 levels of Aggie.

He was in low spirits being damned and asked about how he could have faith in god being what he was, and the man said to live like a man and never let the beast loose, live as a godly man and god would see fit to forgive him possibly. And I remember thinking, "Wow, this man's awesome clan become nothing more than a bunch of out of control monsters. How sad is that?"

    @Paradoxical003 Mage: The Ascension has an explanation for God, too. ;)
    The Umbrood include all manner of unearthly beings, and mages (particularly the Order of Hermes) would classify God as a Rank 10 Umbrood, one of the most powerful beings in existence. An Umbrood of that magnitude would cause global cataclysm if they ever directly set foot on Earth, so most Umbrood are content to stay in the Horizon (the spirit world), which explains why God's so hard to contact these days. :)

    the problem with the whole philosophy behind the anarchs in bloodlines, I believe, is that they're so fed up with the camarilly that all they care about is being free from them. They're whole purpose is freedom to do what you want, and that freedom is the very thing that creates chaos. If they were seeking a greater purpose other than not having to listen to one particular sect of vampires, then they would have a purpose and would truly prospor rather than their morals and everything degrade.
