This is an important conversation that applies to different fields as well. Coming from a dance background, I've experienced myself and talked with many who have gone through the decision and transition of deciding not to perform anymore as a dancer. When it's something you've done for as long as you can remember, it becomes not just a passion or career but part of your identity, and thus that much harder to lose that part of who you are or redefine it in some way. To me, I think I will always consider myself a dancer, and I would say someone like Ash can always consider himself a gymnast, even if not doing it professionally, because it will always be a part of you and your story and something you love to do. And as for Ash, we all love him; he will make such an amazing stunt man, as he is so fearless yet controlled in his gymnastics; and we wish him all the best (though hope to still see his face). :)

Gymnastics is one of the most brutal sports. At the age of 26 you retire from the sport you love. It must be so difficult mentally to do that. But im looking forward to Ash's stunt segment and i wish him all the best with what he decides to do. Good luck x

Knowing when to say when is one of the most important decisions you can make as an athlete or just generally in life. Figuring out what to do after you've been a competitive athlete, esp at the TOP of your sport can be challenging. Wishing you love and happiness Ash!

This is very similar to almost any job you have that you just don't feel as passionate about. You may love the work, but when something inside is lost, it's hard to regain it back again.
Stepping down so someone else can rise can be honorable, and to realize that time has come isn't easy, but most times life ends up being better.

Seriously the difference between the ages in men’s and women’s gymnastics boggles my mind. Since I started watching your channel this year I didn’t realize that Ashley was a teammate. I thought he was one of the coaches and I was really impressed by how he still did everything that the younger gymnasts were doing.
He should seriously audition for Cirque de Soleil because he could really do so many different things with them and get more exposure and experience that would help with being a stuntman. Good Luck in all you do.🤸🏻♂️🤗

I loved this video!! Ash the way that had to make that choice, and when you said it was hard to say out loud, was they same way I felt when I came out. That's gotta be rough for a professional athlete. Even though it's not you, you see your inevitable future when a close friend retires from competing in your sport. It can both inspire and depress you, knowing your days are similarly numbered in your field like that. Definitely a mind game.
