Martlet wonders if other people can hear it in a fight, and also if humans could also have it. tldr It would make sense that this would be Clover’s own battle theme

As someone who provided cover music for an Undertale fan game only for the project to fall apart and never see the light of day, I’m so jazzed to see a released fan game have such a banger soundtrack. This absolutely slaps~ (Also I REALLY need to stop waiting around and get to downloading and playing this game XD)

Honestly I thought the fact they used this song on the genocide route much more disturbing than if they were to just use the regular battle theme but slowed down. The fact that this music is so peppy and intense almost gave me the impression that clover was getting pumped up by what they were doing. Like they truly felt that slaughtering all of these monsters was the strong heroic thing to do and they were in the midst of an epic and challenging battle. When in reality most of the monsters were harmless and just trying to escape. Really clever stuff and definitely puts you more in the shoes of clover's twisted since of justice on the genocide route.

I can paint an image- NO- an ANIMATION of the main character of this game just running after an enemy while shooting their gun at them. And when they are low they reload yet still fire insanely close to their target
Honestly this song might actually be too good for its place in the soundtrack, I could genuinely see this being Yellow's megalovania or some other super hype boss theme. It's so good that it makes a lot of boss themes seem weaker just because this normal enemy track is so much more hype than them.
I mean, to be fair, it does progressively slow down and become more unsettling the more enemies you beat. So it's not really as hype after the first or second monster.
I like to think this is the game's last attempt at making you stop your Genocide, like it's saying: "Hey! If you stop killing monsters, then you'll get to listen to this banger for the rest of the fights, deal?"
I'm pretty sure the actual final attempt of game trying to make you abort genocide is after you fight Martlet for the first time. After this, game basically gives up at that. I like your interpretation though!

actually felt bad about genocide in this game, because unlike undertale, in Undertale Yellow the enemies show their damage on both their attacks and battle sprites, watching them get beaten into submission was harsh
Agreed, it was a nice detail, i still kind of wish that some of regular enemies got Tsunderplane treatment and got unique death animation though. Would've left even bigger impact imo. Also you can do betrayal kills on many normal enemies too, act until you could spare 'em just to put a hole in 'em afterwards and OHKO them. Pretty sad to watch.

Clover was no hero nor was he a villain. He was in control of his actions and chose to kill out of justice for the humans who died. Even if they weren't a threat, those who stood in his way faced judgement, and his judgement is all monsters need to be destroyed.
@der8201 He needed to get stronger so that he could serve justice to Asgore (who by the way ABSOLUTELY deserves the fate he does in the geno run). It was his only option to survive and to serve justice. What you should take from this is that Asgore sucks and all of these deaths of humans and monsters are on HIS hands, NO ONE needed to be murdered he could have left the underground with Chara's soul but he didn't because he's a coward.

Even if he took Chara's soul and went to kill humans outside of the underground that would have started another war/caused more death that he reasonably didn't want after everything he has been through. The only reason he is going with the plan to obtain 7 human souls is just to keep as much peace as he possibly can. And we know from Undertale's neutral endings that if he tried to enact a policy that made it so that monsters would have to be peaceful to humans he would have been overthrown. You can't win in his position. Also doing the genocide route absolutely ruins Clover personality wise. They lose pretty much all of their compassion and have developed severe violent tendencies. They are a child who has the ability to kamehameha anything at any given moment and also might be able to end the world. They were willing to kil completely innocent and kind-hearted monsters like Martlet when they didn't need to so who knows what terrible things they'll do on the surface. They aren't going to live a happy life after the geno route and they ruin the lives of everyone in the underground and make it impossible for future humans like Frisk to leave without killing anyone. It sucks that Clover dies in pacifist but I honestly think thats a better alternative to this.

Martlet's talk dialogue in the area before East Mines on a Pacifist/Neutral Route reveals that when monsters focus on battles, melodic vibrations echo from them, which their opponent can hear too, and she wonders if humans can find their own melody if determined enough. I like to think Enemy Retreating is Clover's theme as they become more determined to bring justice upon the monsters, and that the monsters now hear this track as some sort of Clover's "boss theme", as at this point it can be argued that they're actively attacking monsters first and not the other way around.
from the monsters pov i imagine the first couple seconds are the realization that you've been backed into a corner. you're given no chance to think as your life's put into immediate danger and the track picks up to a hopeless downward descent. really an amazing theme

I also had this feeling of strangeness at first but then I started to look at it from the monsters' perspective. As if this song was for them and not for us. The monsters realized that the fallen human is worse than they imagined and so they had to put more effort into their attacks. The music transitions from calm to louder.

my interpretation is that it's Clover's own boss theme, since the roles are reversed they swap the enemy's fight theme with YOUR fight theme

I like how despite the context of the song, this still sounds heroic, since, in Clover's mind, he is just delivering justice. Which, in a way, he is.
