it's a good thing he did because he sent this album to the hollies, with a message saying i know you guys like the everly brothers, so i thought maybe you'd like to record one of my songs, and the hollies chose the 1 song on the album phil didn't write.
I never knew he did anything outside of his duo setup with his brother! This so soulful almost haunting! They just don't breed people now days like these old greats from the 60,s! All they needed was a good voice, a few simple instruments, simple lyrics! No sex, drugs or rap music! We need a time machine and we need it now! I glady take the trip back, to when everything thing seemed wholesome, safe and good!
1963, I was privileged to see Phil perform at the New Vic London , Don was ill and could not accompany him at the gig .He was wonderful and quite unforgettable. I grew up in the sixties and adored the Everly Brothers.
It was 1962 when I saw Phil solo at the East ham Granada, the first venue of the Everly's proposed UK tour. We were told that Don was " taken ill" and so he was but he had overdosed and had been taken to hospital. This was Phil's first solo spot ever and it didn't go very well at all. We all felt a bit sorry for him.
I'm transported to heaven everytime I play this song and still get chills. What an extraordinary talent. We miss you, Phil. But you're up there singing with the angels.
Love this better than the Hollies, and always loved Phil. Met Phil when we were both starring in the window of a shoe store in Georgetown. I was dumbfounded and hardly could speak, I said Hello Phil and he asked how I was. . Never forget it. It was 1973
Don't get me wrong The Hollies were amazing with this one but Phil brings such a sweet tenderness , so pure and beautiful . Wow he and his brother Don were just magical 💖
I agree. This song although we loved the Hollies version, was in fact a perfect Everly Brothers. Great choice, Phil. A great song. A song worthy of the Everly Brothers. To hear Phil sing it brought even more gentleness and depth to an already wonderful song. Bet the Hollies would agree. Don’t know original recording. Thanks for the info.
So beautiful by such a gorgeous, handsome lovely man ,who was very modest and humble ,Phils voice is so pure and gentle ,he could have had a solo career ,he sings with such passion and so perfectly and exquisite . I do have a C D of Phils and it is Devine, just lovely to here him singing alone .Let It Be Me is wonderful with just Phil singing it ,it tears your heart out and it makes me cry ,knowing Phil is gone., so young ,and beautiful ,l will see you with the Angels and love and hold you for ever .Devoted To You ,l Bless The Day l Found You .. my love always Paula xxx .
There were quite a few albums he made solo. I love every one of them. I spend hours listening.. my daughter has one of those systems that you can talk to and I found sooooo many Phil solos. And albums on line to purchase.
He did go solo for awhile after they broke up 1973 but alas not that successful. He made a number of albums. Check out Everly Brothers International fan club.
@@JaneMarshall68 If you listen to their album, "Song My Daddy Taught Me," Phil's high harmony makes those songs. I love listening to it because of how beautiful Phil's voice is.
Wonderfully sung by Phil, I loved the Hollies singing this but in my opinion I think Phil absolutely nails it. What a talent those two brothers were and how lucky are we that their music still lives on. RIP Don and Phil.
I remember hearing Phil Everly's version before that of The Hollies. It is, simply, one of those marvellous songs that are immediately a classic, like "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". A beautiful song and a beautiful record.
I remember seeing them live when they came to Hull England in the early 60's. I always liked Phil's voice and him best. I'm 81 now. Have all their records and the Hollies. Seen the original Hollies. plus of course The King Elvis. Lifelong member of EP UK fan club. Been to Graceland and Deep South. Elvis memory will live forever 😅😅😅
Got to know them from my eldest sister who got the album when I was just a kid. I've loved many artists in my life, never stopped loving them and their beautiful melodies and songs.
A wonderful rendition of a great song. More authentic in feel to the Hollies perhaps. The first birthday present to me from my girlfriend who is now my wife of of over 50 years was an Everly Brothers album. Still got both!

@@Reverberocket I'm going to express my thought . . . I thought so too. I love The Righteous Brothers and specifically Bobby Hatfield, and now I'm getting into The Everly Brothers and specifically love Phil Everly. Relationships are complicated, especially when they overlap personal and professional and artistic. In these duos Bobby Hatfield and Phil Everly were overpowered by their partners some and seemed to suffer from it. And in both duos Bobby and Phil were the master harmonizers and singers. 😢💜✨

I’ve never really liked the Hollies version of this song but I really like it as done by Phil. I love the pictures accompanying the video. Geez, Phil was handsome…
Are you crazy? Phil recorded this first. The song was written for Phil but when he did not record it the Hollies did. They did a fine job but Phil's was better.
Yeah, the Hollies did take it from him, in a way. Phil sent them his 1973 album saying 'anything on there you want to do'. The one they chose was Air That I Breathe, written by Albert Hammond, the only one Phil hadn't written! Phil missed out big time. Should have released it as a single for a worldwide hit, a year before the Hollies.
@@peebeedee6757 Phil single was shown to Alan Clark by his manager and told he should record it to. Alan decline saying he could never do better that Phil but his manager said record it your own way and he did
Phil's voice is so pure and tender. I'm obsessed with this song.
This is the most beautiful song. It is my favourite of all time ❤
Stunningly simple... stunningly beautiful. 😢
Both this version and The Hollies one are wonderful. Phil had such a natural angelic soft voice! ❤👼🏼
Phil singt es schöner.😊
Der von den Hollies singt es zu hoch und nicht so gefühlvoll.
Melanie does a really beautiful version of this song
I will never understand why this version wasn't a hit.
It wasn’t released as a single (unaccountably)
Just beautiful....sublime

I never knew that Phil Everly sung this before the Hollies. What a beautiful voice he had.
Most perfect vocals I’ve ever heard and had the pleasure to listen to live. Best duo ever to grace us with their voices

The song was written by Albert Hammond, himself a famous performer.
He had a heart- voice
