Makes me cry...hearing those guys talking on their portable radio 30 seconds before and then just like that they're gone...I'm so sorry for the departments loss and for the families of the firefighters
Hard to listen to. Rest in peace brothers. Five people made it out of that house that took your brave, selfless lives. Godspeed, and prayers to friends, families, and everyone involved in this unfortunate tragedy. My heart is broken for WFD
I live a few miles from Wilmington. I couldn't believe this when I heard about it. The fire service is a part of me, so to hear this on the news and on scanners and for it to be so close to home for me, I was in shock and devastated and still am today. I HAVE AN UPDATE: The female firefighter you hear being spoken about in this audio unfortunately passed away of her injuries a little over 2 months after the incident. We lost 3 great members of the service due to this fire. RIP BROTHERS AND SISTER. We've got it from here.
So if everyone was out of the house, why send people inside? The life safety risk was brought to this fire by the fire department. Sad, tragic, and totally preventable. Structures can be replaced, people cannot. My heart goes out to their families and co-workers. I hope the injured members make a full recovery.
Sonny Kay Why would you say that? What do you know that I don't know about this situation? I'm NOT denigrating the firefighters, I'm questioning the logic of sending them inside. Because they were SENT inside. Why not surround it and drown it with water? Questioning the motives of the incident commander isn't questioning the bravery of the men who died, or people who were injured. Or even the IC. It is how we improve the overall process and lower the risk to future firefighters.
The problem is the bodies weren't even cold yet, and you're Monday morning quarterbacking it, without first hand knowledge of the incident. Unless you were there, you don't actually know what happened and why.
You steamed the firefighters

Heartbreaking.
Lay me down beside cool water. And lay to rest my body sore. Send the word out to my brothers. The fire is down, let it burn no more.
Also I hope no one share as their family do not need to hear this
Rest easy brothers

I see...a real intellectual, aren't you? OK Sonny, I'll leave you alone. Go back to your mom's basement and re-runs of Emergency.

When they arrived someone told them there were children still inside.
Rest in peace.
Have we figured out what failed.
Command, RIT or what?
No disrespect intended. Just doing some research.
