As far as their own projects as devs and publishers go - *they are horrible.* They struck gold ONCE with DbD, but it was clearly luck, cause when they tried to repeat with another game in the same genre called Deathgarden, they failed miserably. *TWICE.* Then they had another useless project, a flop, a cancelled spin-off just now and another one that was released: *Casting of Frank Stone.* I could tell you how well it went, but I will just say that *they forgot to upload the game on Steam on release day.* Anyway, that’s Red Hook’s new publisher in a nutshell guys. I mean, just look at bhvr's other games, hell even dead by daylight isn't popular because it's good, but because it has a monopoly in the genre, and I'm saying that with 3k hours in that game.
I think if Behaviour Interactive will support Red Hook team and give them room to maneuver, it can lead to very bright future od DD franchise or create absolutely new amazing game. I see also opportunity for devs in avoid falling into routine, if BI ensure them new projects or rotate some employees - for me working with the same project for 10 years could have been frustrating and I'd think about quit. But I see also a great threat, that they change irreversibly direction of Red Hook leading to death of our beloved studio. Time will let us know...
Considering dragon age's last title was released 10 years ago, the series completely lost its initial identity and it's about to become dead for good, that statement does help put things into perspective
Sony bought Bungie recently and it has all but destroyed Bungie and Destiny. Mass layoffs and huge drop in quality and player engagement. That is just a recent example and some will go the other way. 'Coup' in that sense means something like an achievement to be proud of; "Beating the Librarian with a burn party in region 1 was quite the coup". Coup meaning something like blow, strike or cut. So a coup d'etat is a strike (on, for) the state; coup de grace, 'the cut of grace' is the final blow giving a defeated opponent the 'grace' of death.

Cant say that i am happy to hear that. BHVR is quite an imcompetent studio and publisher and they like to fistfeed political agenda and views into their game and communities. I hope that there are some restrictions to them as what they are allowed to mingle in and what not.
Cautiously Optimistic. This could be a great boon for the DD franchise. A lot of opportunities for both parties with crossovers, different genres of games, more support for the current games. Much like DD2, let's see how it plays.
To touch on the conversation bubbling up around 6:40, you see these developers as "people". And that's great but at the end of the day, people come in all shapes and sizes professionally speaking and not everyone in the industry is a "talented professional". You may mourn the idea of people being laid off and it's understandable but it's also understandable that if people weren't doing a good job, they don't deserve to be integrated into a project that's actually doing well without them. That kind of "soft spot" is how companies inevitably fail. You need the strongest people in the roles requiring strong people and game development is no different. We all want to see good games come back to the shelves and a lot of why we are seeing so much garbage today is because corporations are trying to salvage too many bad apples out of fear of being thought cold hearted. People just need to be better sometimes. Sometimes that talent is just a born skill you can't be taught. Can't let conscience affect your success.
Honestly I'm hopeful. If it doesn't work out that would be a huge bummer but I get the feeling Red Hook wants to grow and go big with their games and hopefully this is the path to do that. I think there's a lot of interesting places the Darkest Dungeon IP could go... or if they do something completely different I'd be excited to see where they'd go.
I actually thought DD2 went in the wrong direction. I got into DBD a few months ago and I've loved the road. I think this could actually be a good thing for Darkest Dungeon and DbD. Behaviour has had real problems with their updates, but overall, I've been satisfied. Looking for great things.
Im nervous, not freaking out or saying the studio is done, just a bit nervous. But the people on behavior from what ive seen are pretty good. I have cautious optimism.
I... am VERY concerned for what this means for Red Hook's games going forward. DBD isn't exactly looked on fondly these days - on top of the game having an _extremely_ toxic playerbase and a rampant cheating problem, BHVR's staff just seem to be lazy and are already notorious for giving the axe to studios they "don't need" on top of being fixed on the stupid microtransaction sinkhole. Red Hook, I like you guys, but I am VERY nervous for you on this. As far as I'm concerned, the guys you just signed on with are practically one step away from being EA.
Very glad to hear Red Hook is doing well financially, but its still awful news to hear them be bought be a company with such an abhorrent track record. The recent Risk of Rain IP buy-out from Gearbox was different: Hopoo was very clear they had zero intention of continuing RoR, so they sold it off. Here, Behavior has the capability to meddle with Red Hook's plans and dangle the threat of dismantling the company over their heads. Also, is anyone else disappointed to hear Red Hook is going to try and expand DD more? I figured DD2 is a good place to end things and was hoping to see a different project from them. Kinda felt the same way about Slay the Spire 2 being announced.
I have my worries, but I have faith in Red Hook. I also really hope this doesn't turn out like a Risk of Rain 2 situation, I would hate that for DD2 or any future Red Hook product. Looking forward to the upcoming game mode and DLC release nonetheless.

@@ICHBinCOOLERalsJeman while that is true I don't want to rush to dooming just yet. I'm totally prepared to eat shit on this take though. But RH felt like they knew what they were doing and I trust them on that. They also said in the QnA that their agreement with Behaviour is supposed to give them more autonomy and not just have them be an extension of the company. While I'm definitely expecting some fuckery out of Behaviour once the honeymoon phase is over the situation RH is in isn't 100% like anything else I've seen from the industry
this feels like when your son gets a high paying job for a big company and you're proud but also worried because the company might suddenly lay him off and destroy his life
Ruin has come to our Studio
I hope this brings about huge content dumps and new things to look forward to, and i can't wait to have you explain how not to die at every one of them. Hopefully this helps support you as a creator too i cant think of any creator more deserving of it
Cant wait for the modding community to be sent cease and desist letters for copyright infringement
I know there's doomerposting to be done, but on the flipside, I can see the dread in Shuff's eyes at "making Darkest Dungeon as big as Dragon Age." Someday you'll escape, Shuff! Just maybe not soon :)
Our family name, once so well regarded, is now barely whispered aloud by decent folk.
I remember days when the sun shone, and laughter could be heard from the tavern.
I wanna believe this could be good but I cant, just like Risk of Rain 2
I'm a long time dbd player, and I decided to check this game out a couple days ago... I fully consider this to be my doing somehow, and I formally apologize to the entire daekest dungeon community for what's been brought upon them.
I've totally lost sleep over Darkest Dungeon trying to get some of those DLC trophies.
"Ruin has come to our family"
It's over, Ancestor-kun
Considering dragon age's last title was released 10 years ago, the series completely lost its initial identity and it's about to become dead for good, that statement does help put things into perspective
Can't wait for nurse roadfight
That could actually be interesting blinking to different positions every turn
As someone who been playing DBD and Darkest dungeon, once Behavior tries to influence Red Hooks vision it's over.
Who in the world looked at Darkest Dungeon 2 and said “Yeah, I want to own that.”???
ITS OVER. RUIN HAS COME TO MY FAVORITE VIDEO GAMES.
I’m concerned after what just happened with Risk of Rain. Obviously fully different characters involved but we just saw an acquisition to very badly
Hopefully, the devs can keep doing their thing without interference. I'll remain positive until they prove otherwise.
Sony bought Bungie recently and it has all but destroyed Bungie and Destiny. Mass layoffs and huge drop in quality and player engagement. That is just a recent example and some will go the other way. So, this may be fine. Good, smaller studios usually lose some of their character when these things happen though.
They weren’t really doing that well before this anyway, to be fair
@@meemdic8682 who Bungie? They were doing far better. Since Sony took over the daily user count is at lowest level ever. It usually has cycles that are quite predictable between DLCs and major expansions, that cycle has been trashed.
That wasn't Sony tho, Bungie was moving strings before and after the buyout, and crashed miserably trying out these plans, and now are desperate for money because they're running out of resources after cancelling like three projects.
@@massgunner4152 the cancelled projects were costing money, not making money. They were in development. That means Capex and Opex expenditure with very little revenue.
@@TheSilvercue Destiny 2 sucked every since they split from activision and arguably before that, too. Everything past forsaken was garbage seasonal paywall model and it got progressively worse with every year of the game's life cycle, what the hell are you talking about. Things like removing 70% of existing content and making existing gear worthless weren't Sony's fuckups, they were Bungie's
If there is an rnemy to be a dbd killer we all know its collector
Btw: "ambition made you leave what needed in order to pursue what wanted" (i dont remember the quote but you get it)
as a fan of both dd and ror2, these are truly darkest times
As someone who played DBD for years and hasn't touched it in a few, allow me to inform you how this will go.
Its done. Its lost.
DD is now in the hands of one of the most undeserving and talentless companies of all time.
This is the point of no return.
DD from now on: “Spend what you can, for wealth no longer has any meaning... if, indeed, it ever did.”
To quote the immortal Han Solo, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
I imagine the DD2 mod workshop will be closed soon after this and only skins you get are the ones you buy as premium currency cosmetics.
Reserving my main reaction for when I watch the whole video
Knee jerk reaction to the title, NONONONONONO
After the video,
So this is a mutually beneficial relationship and not because redhook is struggling
Worst case scenario redhook is displaced but don’t disband and keep working on the game
Best case scenario WE GET DD3/DD KART
Cant say that i am happy to hear that. BHVR is quite an imcompetent studio and publisher and they like to fistfeed political agenda and views into their game and communities. I hope that there are some restrictions to them as what they are allowed to mingle in and what not.
It would be less worrying if BHVR wasn't by far one of the worst gaming companies I've ever seen.
I want ancestor to narrate my live
Appreciate you sharing the news and your insight!
Actual worst case scenario we are screwed
"Adversity can foster hope, and resilience."
Cautiously Optimistic. This could be a great boon for the DD franchise. A lot of opportunities for both parties with crossovers, different genres of games, more support for the current games. Much like DD2, let's see how it plays.
I'm not happy about this.
More dust. More ashes. More disappointment.
Pretty sure we’re cooked
Theres no hope. BHVR will wreck the studio and piss all over the games.
They should've sold to Coffee Stain Studios not this slob. Rip Red Hook your game was great.
Coup can also mean a sudden brilliant act or something like that.
Hopefully DD2 Kingdoms won’t get pushed back to 2025
They said 2024 multiple times, don't worry :)
"You still consider yourself separate from the whole? I know better and i will show you.."-Behaviour
_>Bourassa raised the idea of making Darkest Dungeon a "franchise as big as Dragon Age"_
bro I am laughing, you cannot make this shit up
Shuffle you are the greatest!!! Still working on my first run through and your videos are the best
Terrible news. I wish red hook studios and its many talented team members good luck in their job search in about a year
I'm worried but a part of me would want Ancestor as a killer for DBD, he could have interesting ideas power wise I think
