The demonstrator on hobby maker did an excellent job. She gave tips. You arent supposed to open it that wide without scoring it. Especially with thick paper. I have used mine 3x now and it works fine. Watch the video it really helped me.
Yes, watch the entire hobby maker video on this item. She makes many books trialing different amts of paper and glue strips as well as sizes in the few hours of the video. Try again following her video tips before giving up and returning the machine. Sorry but there is a lot of user error in your approach.
Perfect bound (the technical term for this method of bookbinding) books don’t ever open/lay completely flat. When she was demonstrating it she said they open ‘enough to write’. I didn’t hear her say they open flat and if she did, that’s not true. Also books need to cool for a full 5 minutes in the rack. You may want to try adding another glue strip (if width accommodates it) for a book that is all thicker cardstock or paper. Also, before cooling, give it a tap with the bound side against a desk or counter so gravity can help ‘settle’ pages in the glue while it’s still hot. HTH.
Years ago I used to heat bind documents at work - I don’t remember a lot about it but we always used to tap the paper as you describe and never had problems.
I use regular glue like this. I would push the book down into the hot glue. That's what I do with regular glue. I'd also make surre all of the pages are even by tapping it on the table.
I saw a demonstrator who tamped the pages down into the glue just after she took it out of the machine while the glue is still hot and before she set it up to cool. It seems like that may help, too, because it looks like the pages weren’t down into the glue all the way.
When I watched the video for the machine. When they took it out of the warmer, they tapped the book on its spine to make sure all pages were setting in the glue before drying. I think u tapped your book with the spine on left or right. Your pages aren’t sitting in the glue
I have had problems with many WRMK products. I don't know why I kept buying them. I guess because they looked like they worked on HSN. Finally when HSN was selling the candle maker I looked up reviews before I bought it. Lots of negative reviews so I skipped it. After about 5 crappy products I am glad I stopped buying. This looked good though. The lady showing it said journals would lay flat for you to write in. I wasn't convinced. My husband watched a demo and said oh I guarantee pages will fall out of the middle. The covers and pages near them will bond but the middle ones won't. Maybe at first but after a while they will come loose. You can order it if you want to, but I wouldn't. Recalling my past with this company I agreed with him. I am glad I didn't get it.
@@PrettyLittlePackages I saw another video on this where they didn't bond in the middle which could be user error. My husband's point is would they stay bonded? I don't have the coil cinch system either. I would like to, but have also seen some non favorable reviews. I sincerely hope that this works for everyone who bought one. I don't WANT it to be a dud.
Great video and awesome tip about snipping a bit off the ends so it doesn't ooze out. I have been playing with mine and have some tips that might help you. Glue bindings really don't like to lay flat. Especially when you are binding thick paper like card stock. If you were doing something more like copy paper you could open the books farther (think like a paperback book). Also make sure you are pushing your book all the way down into the machine. The first 2 times I did mine the book seemed to kind of stop when I was dropping it in and it didn't work well. When I looked in the machine the second time I realized I didn't have it pushed all the way down.
Maybe you can put a 1/4" score line towards the binding side so you can lay it open flat. I felt the same thing watching the lady on HSN. I purchased it anyway to make some books for my grandboys. lol.
It seemed like on the Hobby Maker video the demonstrator did a better job than the HSN demonstrator did regarding tamping down into the glue before letting it cool and making sure the book goes all the way down into the machine to make sure it touches the heating element completely.
Mine is coming tomorrow. I was looking for a real person to try it and came across your video. I will stay tuned to see what you come up with. Fingers crossed.
This technique is called a perfect binding. In the industry it is known as anything but perfect. The pages do come out if you crack the binding flat. And yes you can do this technique without the expensive device
Hi Lori, Sorry the cinch isn’t working out for you, maybe We R makers has a tutorial for it. I received your box, it was so awesome! Thanks so much for all your beautiful folders and the really pretty glitter. ❤️
Did you insert you book firmly down so it’s touching the heating plate? This is not a new book binding process, Amazon has thermal book binding machines and glue strips, so the process should work. Good luck!
All the videos I have watched tell you tamp down the paper line them and make sure they all touch the glue strip, you should leave it to cool for at least 5 minutes. You need to watch as many videos as you can. I live in Australia and mad sure I new what I was buying. Everyone I've seen had success.
When they presented it on HSN I noticed not all pages stuck to the glue strip. She didn’t open the booklets wide open either. To me I just thought the presentation wasn’t clear enough…..I would send it back. Ask yourself “I’m I really going to use it?” It seems like your wasting nice card stock getting it to work. You shouldn’t have to keep trying to get it to work. Just my thoughts. ❤️🙋🏻♀️🤗 It will be interesting to see the reviews in a few weeks. 😱 (They sell “Book Binding” glue, I would try that.)
Its disappointing when you really look forward to getting new equipment and then it doesn't work the way you expect it to. The process appears to be simple enough and you followed all the steps in the instructions so i dont see how you could be doing it wrong. I'd never heard of the Cinche before you introduced it so i guess i shouldn't judge but can you find any reviews from other people that have purchased it and used it for comparison?. Also wanted to know what happened with the stamping platform did they mess up and send 2 of them instead of sending your inks? Hope you figure out what to do lori. Its 05.30 am and i was expecting to wake up to snow but ive looked out and there's none yet!! Fingers crossed its missed us. Thank you for sharing your video, looking forward to your next one as always. Xxx

I did think about scoring it. I watched a few minutes of that and got interrupted. I will have to go back and watch it

yes the hobbymaker video is great
Try using thinner paper inside
I thought they said when using A lot of paper you need to add more glue strips. One single strip isn’t going to grab 21 sheets
Julie, I used the amount of paper that was listed in the instructions. The first time I tried it I did have too much.
Your width of the paper needs to same width of the adhesive strip. Looks like your paper is wider than 1/4”. You need multiple strips.

Tapping it. Yes! Great idea.
I have seen some bound pages are scored at the end of the binding strip so they can be flat enough to write in it (if that makes sense).
Yes. I believe so. I am getting quite a bit back about scoring it so I think I am going to try that.

I don’t even get an instruction sheet with mine. I wish you could make a copy of yours and put it out there cause I’m sure I’m not the only one

Lori, you're suppose to leave your book in the cooling rack for 5 minutes. Plus the books do not lay flat.
I understand that but we do have to be able to open them some.
I don't think the books lie flat. I just got my machine but have not played with it yet.

Stop cutting the ends of the glue. Put the ends on first then put the pages in the middle and juggle them together and clip then it will work

Whats with the barking
You need to take your dog out and make it stop barking. Very annoying
Have to stop watching because of the barking dog
