Great video! I was given a sample and am on my third full wearing of it. Gorgeous stuff; definitely a full bottle in my future. Thank you for another well-made and thoughtful review.
Classic, classy and quality! It's a 10/10 in my opinion and I don't throw 10s around willy-nilly. Parfums de Nicolai is easily in my top three of my favourite perfume houses. Patricia... I love you.lol. Enjoyed the review, Pep.
@Jacklyn's Perfumery I dont know they haven't shipped it yet. It would have to project like an asteroid for me to catch a whiff at the moment. Lol, I cant wait to smell it and new York intense
Hi Pep. Love you review here as always! Love the reference to the changing seasons as this fragrance develops. Looking forward to receiving a sample I ordered, along with Les Oranger. Both NYI and Les Oranger sound ideal to me.
I like the sound of that touch of clove. One of my favourite spicy notes when done right. This one gets high marks from a lot of people in the community!
Really enjoying this house lately & I must say that her blending is just simply wonderful . Incense oud , patchouli intense , oud sublime & cap neroli are my favorites so far & I just ordered New York intense . Great review 👍
I just loved this review. Wow! I think I really enjoy these type of scents and I really would love to sample this one. You make it sound almost perfect for me and your obvious love for this fragrance was manifest immediately when the clip started. It was exciting to watch you being excited! I would like to ask where you got your 30ml bottle from please? A big thank you.
I received my bottle last week. I’ve only had a chance to wear it once because I’ve been on vacation. Wow! After one wearing I’m blown away. As you said, blended perfectly. Cheers Pep.
I recently ordered a sample to test it out myself. I have high hopes for it, but like you said, just because other people give it high praise does not mean that you will like it. I've blind bought before and have been disappointed - not very fun. I'm on the hunt for a more mature signature scent. I'm currently in my "try-fougere-fragrances" phase. Wish me luck!
A dear enabler shared a sample of this (and Patchouli Intense) with me yesterday and I am very cross with both you and them! I was really hoping to put a freeze on my purchases 😅
Parfums Di Nicolai and F. Bianchi is the only Houses that I have more than 4 Offerings of. Patricia Di Nicolai fragrances just FIT and Work within my lifestyle.
I have a sample and love it. It reminds me of Guerlain Heritage so when I use it up, I plan to buy a 100ml bottle if NYI. I'm also working down a 50ml bottle of Milano Cento this summer so it may find its way to my collection sooner!
Couldn’t agree with you more, Pep! A masterpiece that cannot be improved in my mind. Does everything it does so well-part woody chypre, part balmy oriental, part citrus Eau de Cologne. I’m halfway through my 30ml bottle and you better believe a larger bottle is in my future.
Great review. Love your channel and style. I have a bottle of New York (the edt) from 2010 which I bought at Patricia’s shop in London one sunny May Bank Holiday of that year. It is stunning and immediately a fragrance I knew was for life for me. I ran out of it about a year ago and ordered another bottle of the edt from the Nicolai website. What I received was a small bottle with beautiful packaging but straightaway I realised this was a reformulation. The current edt is magnificent but a thin shadow of the bottle I had from 2010. It somehow has lost its power and luminosity. Which was very disappointing to be honest. After reading online it turns out that Patricia had to ‘thin out’ the edt due to EU regulations I believe. New York Intense is exactly the same as the original bottle of the edt I had from 2010. It’s literally no different. Somehow she has managed to restore New York to the glory of its earlier years. I would definitely recommend only buying the Intense version of New York. The edt is still very good. It’s the same fragrance. But it doesn’t have the power. I will still enjoy the current formulation of the edt I have and occasionally layer it over the Intense version towards the end of the day just to continue the beautiful scent for a few hours more. I agree with every word you say. I could talk about this fragrance for days. It really is that good.
I recently came across at least a couple of references to the fact that this was similar to Guerlain's DERBY to some people. I ordered a 1ml sample from one of the decanter sites, and OH! Why, yes!! It has never worked out for me to nab a bottle of the Big D - beyond a couple of decant samples - so this will substitute - indeed, hold it's own - very well. And at a reasonable price, too! I just received a 1oz bottle today, but I may go ahead and order the larger bottle soon - this stuff will be in my rotation for a long time. It's glorious.
@@TheScentinel I stand corrected - I just did Derby on one arm (only a few precious drops left!) and NYI on the other, and they are different. I guess I would say that they make me *feel* similar. With both, I am, like, "what is that?! oh! What is that?!" NYI harkens back to the style of these classics and I guess that's what I was picking up on. ( Side note on these kinds of fragrances: when some reviews out there try to say something is an "old man" or "old-fashioned" scent as a negative, I'm apt to want to try it even more! LOL). I enjoy watching your vids from time to time - carry on!
I really loved your review of this. This is such a complex fragrance to my nose that I wouldn’t even know where to start, but I agree with everything you said. It reminds me of fragrances from my childhood when men still wore bold unapologetic fragrances. However, I have also got a bad memory associated with this (I once sent Andrew from Eau de Cupcakes a sample and Arlene and he tried it in one of their live streams; Arlene had a severe allergic reaction to this, she even had to leave the room, and I somehow felt guilty... 😱. Intense really means intense!). By the way, Pep, I tagged you in one of my recent videos (I don’t know whether you know that I started to make UA-cam videos) to go on a fantasy shopping trip and to spend 1000 Australian Dollars. I know that you are currently reducing the size of your collection, but I'd still like to know how you’d spend this amount of money. But, of course, only if you want to do it and I can totally understand if you decide not to go ahead.
I just received a 30 ml bottle of this yesterday. I have only one wearing of it so far, although I have tried a sample of the original a few years ago. I do find it similar to Creed's Bois de Portugal, but I will wear them side by side for a more direct comparison. Very classy fragrance.
@@TheScentinel Ah, good to hear from you! Have you mentioned it in a video, then? I seem to remember a story about only buying it to get free postage on other Nicolai perfume. Or - very possible - I'm completely mixed up... :)
Hello, I'm surprised you did not mention the very prominent powdery accord that pervades Nicolai NY Intense? I loved all other aspects of the fragrance, but ultimately that powdery note was too dominant for my personal tastes.
I probably didn't mention it because i didn't pick up on this when its on my skin. It seems this one does different things on different people, but i found not much powderiness from this
@@TheScentinel Understood. Wow, that's surprising because it was so dominant to me and on my skin. I've also seen others on Basenotes chime in about the same powdery aspect. But everyone is unique. Cheers.
@@TheScentinel p.s. have you smelled or reviewed "Kolonya" from Rasei Fort (Fort & Manle)? That also has a fairly distinct Iris-like accord that is moderately powdery to me, but complimentary with the overall composition. Notably, that Iris-like note even threw off Luca Turin when he wrote his 5-Star review of it, as Kolonya actually has no Iris in it.
Couldn't agree more and much respect to Nicolai for selling the small bottles for pretty much the same price/ml as the larger ones.
Awesome review, my friend. I own it and I love it. Such a beautiful citrussy scent, not for the younger crowd but so good. Take care !

Fantastic review of a fantastic perfume. , thank you! I so love this . If I had to keep one fragrance in my collection this would be the one. Cheers!

Wonderful review! i'm on my second bottle. NYI is about as good as perfume gets to my nose. I really ought to order a 250ml direct.

Barbershop with chamomile, makes me wonder how it might compare to Fougere Royale.
I find it annoying in FR but perfectly-blended in NYI

No need Gerti, we can't possibly wear everything😁
