      Right, but the things we experience everyday is received different by him. Our churches are long and we do "agree" alot. I love how he takes in our cutlure and his honesty about what he likes or don't like. Much respect. Cause usually when we accept some person, they are rejected by their own.

    I don't understand the idea of "acting black" that's such a stereotype.... "acting black, acting white" how about just being you whomever that may be. People pick up mannerisms, speech, behaviors from the environment in which they are raised in many cases. You cannot help that.

    I met Bill Cosby many, many, many years ago. I was with my husband and we stood backstage waiting for "Mr. Cosby" to allow us to come to his dressing room for over an hour and a half. When we were finally allowed to enter, he was NOT friendly at all. My husband and I were an interracial couple and he looked us up and down as if we were aliens. He hardly spoke to us and seemed very distracted by the multitude of items he fidgeted with around his room. We had been introduced to him by his Dresser, Cam Cooper, who was a friend of my husband. Cam was so ashamed of how we had been treated that, as we were leaving, he gave me a tiny purse size TV in a blue case. (This was decades before cellphones, personal computers, CDs or even cordless telephones). I had never even heard of such a small working TV. He said it was from "Mr. Cosby". I never believed that. Later I learned from my husband that Cam admitted the TV had been given to him by Mr. Cosby as a gift. But, Cam had given it to me because of the hurt and disappointment he saw on my face. I still have that TV today. I miss Cam (who I believe has passed on). But, I was not sad when "Mr. Cosby" went to prison.

    For the record, there is no such thing as "acting black".

    • @Silverjerk
      @Silverjerk 8 років тому +19

      +AJ Writer I'd have to disagree with you there. I'm a white guy that grew up in the projects and listened to Hip Hop my entire life, and I talk and dress like your average white guy. Yet I've come across white kids that grew up in the suburbs and never had a struggle in their life, talking like they just walked out of the hood and acting as if their life is so "hard," changing their voice and mannerisms to mimic young black culture. I find it offensive, and patronizing. Just be who you are, and like what you like.

      +Silverjerk urban. street black guys😍

    • @GreatBeardofFouts
      @GreatBeardofFouts 8 років тому +1

      +Silverjerk Young black culture is different depending on where you are - just by calling it young and black really doesn't narrow it down cause we could be talking any place in Africa, a lot of places in South America, hell we could be talking about young black culture in the UK. Culture does not have clear borders and is not original, it mimics.
      I have come across tons of white kids (and other non-blacks for that matter) too, some poor that act "black" or "poor" or whatever adjective you associate with loose clothing, bad posture, certain accents of speech or slang, but the thing is there are rich or middle-class kids that imitate that too - all for different reasons, but the main unifying reason is they embrace that thing, that culture whether they know it or not. So what offends you is maybe what that person likes...something's gotta give, right? Who you are changes throughout life, even if you are just the same person with stronger habits.
      I really do believe, "life is what you make it" But it's foolish not to believe at the same time, "life is what makes you"

    • @Silverjerk
      @Silverjerk 8 років тому

      GreatBeardofFouts I'm not entirely certain what your point was. Seems like you're just parroting your own sentiment about what defines culture -- but sadly societal views don't agree with you.
      When I say "young black culture" I'm talking about the unifying thread that ties individuals from EVERY region together. Go to the UK, Canada, the Southern states in the US, New England, even the midwest, and you see the earmarks of a similar look, attitude, and tastes. Why? Because of the media, and the consumption of entertainment -- which defines cultural messaging and communicates ideas that are copied by impressionable youth. It's the reason you can watch a movie like "Attack the Block" and see the same persona as you would in a Hollywood movie featuring "young black culture."
      Despite how you feel about it, the reality is that there is a definable young black culture, and no, it is not just an urban "black" culture, or even central to the US. Sure, Nigeria's going to be different, but even in Africa you see the influences of entertainment and the emulation of black youth.
      I get that your intention might have been to mitigate a stereotype, but there was no negativity in my original reply. Quite the opposite, in fact. I was encouraging people to act like themselves (i.e., not to change their voice, or dress in something that is inherently uncomfortable to them in order to mimic or copycat -- as an example, imagine a young black kid from South LA listening to country music and then suddenly start dressing in Wranglers and talking with a southern accent; sounds ridiculous; that was my point).

    • @GreatBeardofFouts
      @GreatBeardofFouts 8 років тому +1

      +Silverjerk Societal views is great and all, but I'm just talking basic sociology and how we mentally categorize what we see as the ever-malleable word, culture. My intention was not to mitigate any stereotypes, rather than expound on your point of, "act like themselves." What does that mean? A young black kid from South LA listening to country music and dressing in wranglers is actually nothing crazy....common? Probably not, but how do you judge if the kid is acting like himself or not? Obviously, throwing in the southern accent is much (but yo, I've seen it happen - the world is crazy), but the rest of it really doesn't say anything other than preference of music and wranglers. Is it strange? Sure....but is the kid acting like himself or not? The fuck if i know.
      There is absolutely a definable young black culture....if you define it. That's all I'm saying. What's young white culture? We're probably not as fast to think of strong associations.....it seems more varied...is it because it is? No. Saying that there are similarities across the world in how people look and behave is little more than defining the word, culture, rather than defining the actual culture. I totally get where you're coming from. I studied black cinema and have a solid grasp of what you're saying in terms of media influencing young children to emulate a thematic style. But shit, we gotta break it down for the sake of our social awareness, since culture is a lifestyle.
      "Yet I've come across white kids that grew up in the suburbs and never had a struggle in their life, talking like they just walked out of the hood and acting as if their life is so "hard" changing their voice and mannerisms to mimic young black culture."This happens all the time, and I find it annoying too....when I think there's no basis for it (and sometimes I'm wrong). The problem is there are tons of suburban white kids that have had struggles in their life and talk like they just walked out of the hood (acting if their life is so hard is virtually everybody at some point - it's just relative)...yet it is who they are. I guess my major point was that you will probably have someone defy your expectations, try not to be offended. Either way, i thought it was a good talk....cheers

    The fact that people have to try and dance around the topic of Kate Jenner is sad.
    He’s a dude that decided he was a she. Why do I need to like that or be proud of him/her? It’s ridiculous.
    As Bill Burr mentioned, if he was a woman I’d be pissed that this guy was a “female” for a year and was voted woman of the year. That’s sad. There’s some kick ass women that should have gotten that award who struggled years possibly decades to achieve what they did and someone changes gender and all of a sudden actually women are push back 1 row. Very strange and sad this generation is. Not the people, the generational period is what’s sad.
