I spent a good 12 months looking for my 2004 4.2 Amazon. Found one with 58,000 genuine miles on it. 1 owner, full Toyota service history and never off roaded or towed. The catch? It cost me £26,000. I haven’t had to spend any of the repairs you have had to, but it was well over what you paid, so hey-ho, they are big bucks whichever route you take, but in comparison to my 4.6 Range Rover it is in a different league for reliability, drivability, lack of rust, depreciation is almost zero, and interior space ( I also had a huge lpg tank in the back of the RR because it was petrol V8.) despite the issues you’ve had, it’s still a far superior truck. Enjoy it.
Great Vid on the costs, It does mount up doesn't it. As you know I too bought the awfully fitting Intercooler, but haven't shared my experience with it yet. I must say i've since fitted a 3" exhaust and a 5 stage unichip to mine and boy it makes a huge difference. much more power, and more economical too, I wish i'd done it years ago. As far as in car entertainment goes, i kept the standard kit and added a Pure DAB thingy from Halfords, which works ok. The dab signal is a bit hit and miss round here but i can stream podcasts off my phone with it which is all I want really.
Good morning 😊 I’ve watched part 1 & 2 about the costs of your Toyota Land Cruiser and really enjoyed them. The Land Cruiser’s have a great following 👍🏻 I run a Range Rover P38 and do the same running repairs in a systematic manner as you demonstrate with your Land Cruiser. I find my R/R fairly easy to work on myself, which is a bonus. I wouldn’t touch any of the later Range Rover’s with a barge pole. I hear they are more complicated with electrics etc and some need the body off to do things? 😮 I’d be hesitant to count up the cost of what I’ve spent on my R/R. The most satisfying thing is that I view it like a project. A Forth (Rail) Bridge project 😂 Looking forward to more of your videos. Best wishes, Neil
@@landcruiserscotlandI’ve had most landrover products for 2010 and before. Currently have a 2010 3 litre tdv6 biturbo. I have a completely unproven theory it’s less likely to snap a crank as slightly less power than the sdv6. But still moves just as fast as you need any car too. Came from a d3 so it feels quick. Also have owned some old discos, series and defender in the last few years so anything is quick compared to them 😂 the dogs and horses just love it. I reckon the d4 is the best all round car but same model as your cruiser always tempts me! Just the purchase price that puts me off tbh
I would advise you not to use any bitumen product as you are asking for concealed trouble down the line. Better off using waxoyl or lanolin product and top up regularly
Waxoyl is a bitumen product. Lanolin only lasts six months. I was getting the whole car done with Dinitrol rustproofing done with a full strip down anyway so I only needed a temporary spray on my bare metals. Why does bitumen cause concealed trouble?
wow, I felt for you at the end of this vid. I could see you wincing inside with the costs! loving the vids and i don't want to sound like a prude but decat and a big old deasil.............nah mate not with kids in the cars and around on the street! i mean i ain't no eco warrior but that really is a lot of crap to be chucking out onto the street! just my thoughts!
You are quite right. I am finding the smell to be absolutely honkin. I kept the cat pipe and swapping it back on will be easy for me when I've had enough. Also yes I was hurting inside when I got to the total 😂
@@landcruiserscotland i bought a turbo charged MX5 with a decat, sounded incredible and spat flames but i got a headache from the fumes after driving it so i decided it had to go lol!
I had the same with my subaru but with the fuel smell. Turns out was not the exhaust at all, but fuel leaking into the cabin 😂 oh the joys of modified cars
Good video. Things add up and it's no longer a cheap car- But compare it to a new one, which cost a gazillion, and with the old one, at least you have a chance of repairing it. And it drives better ;) Of course it's a hobby. Thanks for sharing.
The good news is that it didn't impact it at all! There's one electrical cable on the drivers side which gets a bit tight, but it's possible to have up to 2 inch body lift and still keep your AHC exactly like it was at the factory.
Well that's what everyone says, but so far after three years no problems at all. I have yet to find this mystery person who is killing the steering racks with 35s. It certainly isn't me 😂
LAND CRUISER IS NOT CHEAP TO MAINTAIN UNLESS YOU ARE A DIYER. PARTS ARE NOT EXPENSIVE BUT EVERY THING IS BIG SO TAKES TIME TO REMOVE WHICH COST LABOR. WHAT IS THE MOST CHEAPEST TO MAINTAIN.. A HILUX DIESEL LN 106 FRONT SOLID AXLE.. I LOVE IT.. NOT MUCH TO FIX.. IT KEEPS RUNNING.
My Australian parts were some of the most expensive! Shipping is ferociously expensive due to the weight, and import duties of 25% in top. I've had stuff from all over the world, usually wherever is slowest and the cheapest deal so I can save the most. For me japan and dubai have been the cheapest.
@landcruiserscotland if you could've found a reputable person on a landcruiser Facebook page in Australia and bulk sent parts that would've been a great option
Sadly that wasn't an option for me. Shipping would still be an issue, best case scenario it's simple tax evasion of the import duties. Not sure I fancy that either 😁

Thanks Neil. I'd love to have a P38 on my driveway, but it would perhaps be beyond my mechanical ability. Am I correct to think you still need imperial sizes to work on those? five-eights and 17/65 spanners :D

Sweet lord have mercy that must have felt painful at the time you bought it. How many years ago did you get it?

You’ve also given me a good idea on how to find my spaniel in the dark! A UV light and aircon dye. 👍😂
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting to hear. Makes me feel not so bad about my d4 😂 do love that big bus though. Looking forward to year 3!
I've always liked the D4 - what engine did you go for?

Amazing trucks. Even buying parts from Amayama or Partsouq the costs run up and fast. But right now, would I part with mine? No, not a chance.
Neither would I. (2004 4.2 diesel now 85000 highly maintained miles, purchased at 58000 miles 4 years ago for £26,000.

It's definitely a hobby, and that includes my youtube hobby. If I had a toyota yaris no one would give two hoots about a running costs video :)
If you did the 1 inch body lift, how did that impact the independent front suspension and auto height control?

That UV dye gets everywhere but it is brilliant at finding leaks.

Yeah, been there and then it got worse when I bought another after totaling the first
it gets worse and worse every year :D

I had hole in wing so i got a new oem one from Toyota and was dirt cheap. Bout 6 years ago 🤷🏼♂️
In hindsight, this is what I should have done.

You should have ordered parts from Australia. Maybe a Range Rover would have been better in your circumstances mate
