I’d love if this became a series! Kelly Gooch does brand deep dives for western brands but it would be so cool if you could do something similar with k-beauty because I’m sure there is a lot of behind the scenes drama or interesting stories about the founders/origins of a brand in the industry
I agree their constant rebranding affected them a lot. They got rid of their staple products, which leads to people not wanting to come back. Also, there was a lot of turmoil happening within YG Entertainment, and their former CEO Yang Hyun-suk.
Yes I think it's confusing for most.. I know it is for me! And interesting.. I've heard of some drama with YG but I'm not too familiar with the details...
I think ever since Blackpink stopped being the faces of the brand, the hype just fell off. Nothing is really truly memorable besides their discontinued balm cushion
I feel like this happened to so many K-beauty brands which sucks because I really love some of the older products! I’m a Missha girl and their sunblock was my holy grail for years but they reformulated and now it irritates my face. 😩 I’d love it if you did a Missha video too! I’m curious to know your thoughts about them now and if there are any products you from them you like or recommend.
My HG foundation is the Micro Correctfit. I was devastated when they discontinued it because of a rebrand. I bought whatever I could find, but I’m down to one and a half left. I don’t know what I’m going to do!
I used their microfit cushion (the black packaging) for a long time and just opened my first calming microfit... I was really surprised it was pink packaging? 😅 I thought it was just me that thought I wasn't seeing their marketing but I guess it was just them not really marketing?!
I think the bold, artsy makeup style is more popular in the west, and even there the trend is moving towards natural and clean makeup. I guess Moonshot’s originally brand positioning just couldn’t find a big enough target audience for it to be profitable. Just my 2 cents. 😊
this video could not have come at a better time! i recently found a moonshot spf primer sample that had slipped under makeup when i was cleaning out and organising the makeup side of that drawer. I couldn't remember when i had gotten that sample, but from the picture of the packaging, it seems like it's from the first era, so I'll be throwing it out 😅 it makes sense because i started getting into kbeauty around 2015-2016, so i may have gotten it with one of my first yesstyle orders and just saved it for the future because i didn't use foundation back then (still don't, really. i have tried a few cushions and liquid foundations and i haven't found one i like yet). anyway, this was a very interesting video, I would love more kbeauty brand deep dives!
