An Indian Sikh, born and brought up in Scotland. I have sung this song many times, and always with pride. Goosebumps come free.
Scottish Indian Sikh, the only requirement for being one of us Scots is be born here, we are proud to have you.
@@taylornox The only requirement is to come here, be here, adopt Scotland as your home, think Scottish, feel Scottish, that makes you Scottish
@@garysmith9321not really lol if you move there at 50 I’m sorry you’ll never be Scottish or Hungarian or Iraqi or whatever, that’s not how it works lol
@@jakeclough8090 You are so wrong and so sad. Thankfully there are not that many of you left. You would probably feel more at home south of the border, many there have similar views.
@@garysmith9321 sounds like you’re being a tad racist and stereotypical about English people there mate. The irony and double standards lol. It’s not racist to say that a person, let’s say french or Indonesian whatever, moved to England at age 50, they’ll never be English mate. If they move a s a child then yeah sure because that country and culture shapes them as they grow up but if you’re moving as an adult, you can’t switch nationality, that’s not racist or old fashioned, that’s common sense and how 99% of people today agree it is
I'm Scottish with Indian heritage. Best of both worlds. Whisky and curry😊
And deep fried Mars bars? 🏴😂
You lucky bastard
Can't argue with that!
Spot on man 🏴
I see you left out haggis😂
The scots sing flower of Scotland so loud you can hear it in india
The Sikhs fought alongside the jocks of the 51st Highland Division at the battle of El Alemain in North Africa in the Second World War. My father told us what great fighting men they were. So Flower of Scotland is for all Sikhs also
2 ‘warrior races’ proclaimed by the English.
Please can you refrain from referring to us as ‘Jocks’ as this is used (usually by right wing English Nationalist types) as a derogatory term, and the majority of us Scots just don’t like it.
@@kirsteneasdale5707 That was what the Scottish soldiers were called in the Second World War. With the 51st Highland Division it was a badge of honour. In the First World War they were called the ladies from hell, do you object to that too?
Grow up jock. Offence is only taken, never given.
It's fortunate for the Sikhs they were not with the 51st Highland Division in France when Churchill left them to fight to let the others from other parts of Britain, AND France escape at Dunkirk... It was called the Miracle of Dunkirk.. MIRACLE MY BUTT !! ... Scotland wept, including the members of my family .... Twenty five years ago, I visited the graves.
Let’s go Scotland!!! 🏴!!!!! Thanks for enjoying our anthem! The best and most patriotic national anthem there ever has been!!!
@@TalorcMcAllan 🤣🤣🤣 100%
Born in Scotland, raised in England. This song gives me goosebumps and makes me emotional every time I hear it - makes me want to go and find Edward and send him home tae think again.
Born in the homeland, raised in the land of the ********.
feel free to come north of the wall anytime you come to your senses.
Blessings from Bonny Scotland. Thank you for your nice words and great video.
The song refers to the victory of the Scots over the army of King Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. The song was performed by the Scottish folk group The Corries in the 1960s (I remember seeing the first performance on television in 1967).
It was also written by the Corries
@@gillramsay1112It was written by the late Roy Williamson who was one half of the Corries.
Yous are lovely 😊 ✌️n Love from Scotland 🏴🌎🏴
Gods babies ✌️❤️
Flower of Scotland is about the Battle of Bannockburn, where Robert the Bruce defeated King Edward II. I had relations on both sides.
its lovely to see different nationalities appreciate one another ❤
Thanks for playing this guys❤ Good luck with the channel.
The Welsh national anthem is very inspiring, especially at a rugby match🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Hello Stephen here from ireland 💚 and us Irish and Scottish people have a very unique relationship we fought together against the English in medieval times. There is a movie braveheart directed by Mel Gibson which tells the story about a Scottish rebel named William Wallace who along with fellow Scottish and Irish fought against King Edward and the English soldiers. I'm very patriotic as an Irishman and we love our Scottish brothers. Watch the movie you will love it
Scots came from Dalriada Stephen, the scotti were Irish raiders, who constantly hassled the Romans.
They also killed you, displaced you and starved you in the last 500 years but sure just England are the bad ones lol
Fun fact: William Wallace actually wasn't called Braveheart, that was Robert the Bruce who won the Battle of Bannockburn which is what the song is based off
@@petecarrollmusicthere has been immigration going boys ways for millennia and dont forget that it’s only the western part of Scotland that’s Gael the north east is closer to Welsh and the south east was part of a Saxon kingdom that included the north east of England ie Newcastle
@@boxtradums0073 Scotland was born out of the Kingdom of Alba, which derived from the scotti (the Gaels) from North Eastern Ireland/Dalriada. At one point, most of Scotland spoke Gaelic, its where the kilts, pipes come from, where the culture came from, the och's and ayes. Yes Britons (Welsh speaking/culture) were all over, hence the name Britain, were in Strathclyde and south of the Forth or south of the Antonine Wall. Of course there have been human movement/disporia from various creeds and dna types for millennia. However, the Scots (scotti) came from Ireland and combined with Picts (possibly absorbed into Gaelic culture), formed the basis of Scotland. There are Gaelic place names and references all over Scotland.
Best wishes from Scotland 😊
I'm impressed with how well you understand why we sing with such passion. Great video, I thoroughly enjoyed it guys.👍
Its the measssage and a capella that seperates our anthem to any other..ots essentially a rallying call 🤙
King Edward l, attacked the Scots many times. It was Edward who had William Wallace hung, drawn and quartered. King Edward l, built many castles, mainly in Wales.
Edward I, also known as Edward Longshanks and the Hammer of the Scots, was King of England from 1272 to 1307. After the disastrous Battle of Dunbar in April 1296, the Scottish revolt against England stalled for more than a year until a rebel force led by Andrew de Moray and William Wallace rekindled the flames of rebellion with a stunning victory over the English at Stirling Bridge. The impact of that battle induced King Edward I, known as “Longshanks” for his extraordinary height, to return from France to deal with the fractious Scots. After assembling a huge army, Edward marched north on his second invasion of Scotland in two years
But I belive this is about the battle of Bannockburn. SO its Edward the Second. who was ...lets say not as great a military mind as his father. ( and thats being kind)
This win ment that Engerland would never be able to conquer scotland militarly. One COULD say scotland took over Engerland via James the 6th? ( some could...I dont)
And eEdward Longshanks said he wanted to be there ( in bone form) when the scots where subjugated. That never happens
@@TalorcMcAllan He would fit in well then.🤣Just a bit of fun.
So proud Thank you India. X
Thank you for this! 🏴
Im not british im Scottish
Thank you. Good to meet you both.
Proud to be a Scottish 🏴💙
very fuckin proud 🏴💙
This just makes me love all humanity. God bless India!
And Flower of Scotland is best as a Stadium Anthem and this is one of the best, seeing the players singing and soaking up the sound brought a tear to my eye..
The difference between rugby and football fans singing our anthem is hilarious btw.. and I am a football fan.
love the reactions!, your always welcome in Scotland brother!
Edward was Medieval King who tried to invade Scotland. The Flowers are the young men who died in the Battle
Great video, thanks. ❤️
The 'Flower of Scotland' has been at different times in history, different things, to different people. Generally it is thought that a field of Thistles may have helped our side during one war or another, but nothing is certain about this. However, it's a nice anthem, most people like it sung at the Rugby, at Murryfield. It's also sun by football fans, or at the Commonwealth Games of course. It is not the official National Anthem, we just don't have one at the moment.
The film Braveheart with the old English King in it who dies ,is King Edward I who the songnisbsung about. He wanted the whole of the U.K to be one Kingdom, but the Scottish wanted to be free and independent as their own country. King Edward was known as the Hammer of the Scots because he always attacked Scotland with his armies.
Proud patriotic people
Thank you India. The largest Democracy in the world. I wish we had that.
The "Flower of Scotland" is about our ancestors standing up against King Edward " Longshanks" and the tyranny he brought upon our land during the English invasion. It is not cheerful, in fact we pay homage to our countrymen & women who stood against this tyrant and defeated the strongest armed forces in the world at this time. It really is a David v Goliath story which as Scots we owe our freedom to these brave men & women. Hope that helps you understand why we're so passionately and fiercely proud.
Alba gu bragh.
Most unique thing about our anthem is... Its acapella... ❤
Namaste from scotland, thank you for reacting to us, Edwards army is the king that tried to take our land, tried to force our people out. They ended up winning that war, hence why we are now part of the UK.
Regardless, we still stand, we still remain, and we will forever have our freedooom..
Corny joke but very true, much love to you both, I hope you all have a very good day and life should you see this
This song will always be special to me as it is a way cry that we would sing at school when our boys were fighting it out on the rugby pitch.
The song is about the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 when Scots led by Robert the Bruce King of Scots defeated Edward king of England in a 2 day battle to gain their freedom and independence.
You made a good point in that most anthems are about moments weras the scots os about an old fight... Whoch we as scots still fight... Real scots anyway ❤
Scottish here. Our national anthem sums us up. We'll try our best but still get screwed over! lol
People resonant with our anthem for a reason... Almost 90 percent of the world is oppressed... I cant speak for any peoples except pur own .. i hope one day this anthem become obsolete...it won't..but thats my hope..and generally its the hope of scotland as a whole
skip to 2:15 for the music
Great video 🇮🇳🏴🤝took the time to understand the words and sentiment. We’re oppressed far more now, but the majority of us are cognitively dissonant about it. I don’t understand the corporation that is the hegemonic uk government
Confession. I write the Dilbo Coxni column in the SNP's Independence magazine.
I'm glad to see our Indian brothers and sisters enjoyed our anthem. Scotland too will soon join India in being liberated from england's second Reich. Much love from Scotland ♥️🏴
I’m proud to be Scottish
Battle of Bannockburn, 1314. Look it up!
The best version is the one by Amy Macdonald
Theres some within Scotland trying to phase this out btw... wonder why 🤔
I am Highlander, Scottish Born & Bred; a Gaelic Speaker. My father did not speak English until he was a lad of fourteen year of age. I am proud of my country and will gladly give my life for it.
The Edward they are referring to is King Edward II of England.
Scotland’s unofficial national anthem, ‘Flower of Scotland’ has become a firm favourite in Scottish households. Here’s everything you need to know about this patriotic tune...
If you’ve ever watched any sporting event, you’ll know just how evocative a national anthem can be - and the ‘Flower of Scotland’ is no exception.
This powerful tune commemorates the victory of the Scots after Robert the Bruce defeated England’s Edward II at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
Also kinda relevant to a lot of cultures tbh its probably why scotland has an open to all policy..which it does.. whenever the home office fuks off
Flower of scotland is special..its not even official..its rebellious..and over the past decades it's been discussed to be phased out..even by scots! But it shant..nor should it ever be...official or not it is scotlands anthem... ❤ its not just our anthem..its renowned because its everyones
You are now Scottish brother and sister
Look up how many Scots were presidents, who started their navy and who taught them special forces skills. Theres loads more, there's a video here on youtube called how the scots invented the modern world, its a guy giving a talk to a bunch of Scots oh a Glasgow leant the US money that still has not been repaid until this day.
Please could you do the Welsh national athem and an unofficial Welsh anthem "Yma o Hyd".😁
Sgoinneal 🏴 💖
Listen to Jerusalem and Land of hope and glory
edward was the king of england
Nothing like usa anthem 👍
The Female is sitting thinking stfu and let me get a word in but apart from that great video.
Edward 3 king of England
Yes we sent him 'homeward' to think again... trouble was, he thought about it and came back and kicked our 'ass' 😀... try listening to 'Chance' by Big Country (a Scottish Band). Gives a true reflection of Scotland
Scotland will be free by 24 to Join the EU.
Yes USA national was that good they almost ripped off the melody from any British drinking song o they did
Watch the film ''Braveheart''.With Mel Gibson..it explains it all.
Its not the scottish national anthem its the unofficial national anthem of scotland the national is god save the king.
The National Anthem of Scotland is God Save the King. The same as the rest of the UK
No it's not
Not the Scottish national anthem, even the writers thought it was not a good anthem.
The Welsh national anthem is so much better!!
Lmao no its not 😂
Saucepan vach?
Only to the Welsh
Being a Scotsman, that is the worst National Anthem ever, it is embarrassing, it makes the world think we need them to cry for us. Get something with a bit of joy FFS.
My Dad is from Scotland, my Mother from England, I've been born and raised in Britain. But I am so proud of my Scottish and English heritage.
I love India and the Indian people, there's a lot of them here in Britain and they're so very kind and friendly. I hope we can live as friends and allies for the future
🇬🇧 🤝 🇮🇳
Same.
English colonial rule over us for hindered of years led to this, but this is based off major defeat of the English, amazing lyrics and don’t forget we are still under English rule. We have been forgotten about while britian claims colonialism is over 😅, yea Scottish soldiers played a part but that’s no an excuse for keeping us under English ruke 🏴🏴🏴 independence now England can’t even run dentists 😅
