    I have two of the latest and greatest machines. Having tried using quarter inch feet and just about every type of guide on the market, I use six layers of painter’s tape every time. I make it 4-5” long and precisely place it using a tool called the “Ideal Seam Gauge”.

    So happy I came across this tutorial, I learned so much about my own sewing machine by just reading the manual.

    FANTASTIC........I have a very good sewing machine but was having trouble with my 1/4'' seams.They always came out too big. Then found and watched this video. I am now one very happy lady. I do have a 1/4'' foot but my seams came out a little smaller still. So I tried your idea and moved the needle position. That has worked. Didn't even know my machine had that capability so in the manual found out I could do a normal size or a scant size seam. NO MORE UN-PICKING SEAMS.......THANK YOU

    I cut about 10 layers thru a roll of masking tape about six inches long. When it won't stick anymore to your throat plate, peel off I layer and reuse your tape guide.

    You know that white waterproof first aid tape that comes on a metal reel? I layer bout five 3-inch pieces, stick it on my machine like you demonstrated. Because, it's thick, it makes a nice "fence" to run my fabric along. And, it's reusable and doesn't leave tape residue on my machine.

    I taped a Post it note to front of my machine with the needle position required for the 2 different feet I use most often. It has position for 1/4", 3/8" and 5/8". Game changer for me. I found the position by using your first method :-)). Ty for your great videos. Love your website too.

    Great video!
    You can stitch a ¼" seam with the J foot (Baby Lock) and general foot for other machines.
    Move the needle to 5.5 or 6.0 for scant. Tben, you can use the edge of the foot to sew a perfect ¼" seam. I prefer to use th edge of my foot to sew quilt seams.

    Hi, thanks for the info specially your 3rd way, had a look at my machine guide book and found my machine has that option. So after 10 years of using my machine and completed a lot of quilting projects, this now will come in handy. I suppose I should read the guide book more often :)

    It never fails that as soon as I use the tape method, I have issues with the drop in bobbin or have to take the metal plate out and clean the machine - 🤣🤣🤣🤣 - in any case the the tape covers the the door that covers the drop in bobbin and the bobbin doesn't last very long

    • @ljeanwoe
      @ljeanwoe 2 роки тому

      Don’t put the tape all the way up there. Tape up to it but not over it.

    • @ceciliaschleicher278
      @ceciliaschleicher278 2 роки тому

      @@ljeanwoe that defeats the purpose of the seam guide then especially once you get down to 2 -3 inches or if you are sewing

    When using precut fabric that have zigzag edges do you measure from the inner or outer zig?

    • @QuiltAddictsAnonymous
      @QuiltAddictsAnonymous  8 років тому +1

      You never zig zag edges in quilting.

    • @Redrevenge2010
      @Redrevenge2010 8 років тому +5

      I don't mean a zigzag stitch. I mean the cut edges of the precuts. Here in the UK we call it a pinked edge as we use pinking shears. Not sure what you call them in the USA
