  • Have you ever wanted to build your own stylish and unique bedroom bench and/or side table. This video will help you with all of the measurements, cuts, and the how to. Below you will find the material list, cut list, and supplies. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to leave a comment and I will help as much as I can. For the materials and tools, you can purchase them directly from most hardware stores or from the links below directly from Amazon.
    Material list:
    (7) 1"x2"x8' premium pine board (can be poplar or oak if you desire)
    Wood glue
Box of 1 1/2 inch (1/4" thickness) wood dowels
Brad nails (not mandatory but recommended to hold the spacers in place)
Wood Stain (Minwax Gunstock was the color I chose, see link below)
    Sand paper (320 grit)
    Tools:
    Wood Clamps (see link below)
Dowel Drilling Jig (see link below)
    Miter saw
    Brad Nailer
    Staining towel
    Disposable gloves
    Cut List:
    (8) 1"x2"x48" top rails
    (4) 1"x2"x20 1/4" legs
    (2) 1"x2"x45" leg braces
    (21) wood spacers 1 1/2"x1 1/2"
    (2) 1"x2" bottom of legs
Length of bench is 48", width 11 1/4", height is 22". All of these measurements can be adjusted based on desire. Also, materials and cut list do not include the side table. The side table legs are the same size as the bench as are the wood spacers. Only different is the width of the table is 16" and requires only two rows of spacers for a total of 14.
When it comes to joining the wood legs together, I love to refer other great UA-camrs that can give you the best advice and teach you how to use certain tools. Below is Leah from @seejanedrill, who gives an excellent tutorial on how to drill and join wood dowels:

    • DIY MAHOGANY WOOD SHEL...
    Directions:
First thing I did for this build was cut all the parts at once. After I cut all of the pieces I sanded the wood where needed with a high grit sandpaper. Premium wood comes very smooth but there will always be areas that need a final touch.
After sanding and before install, I stained all of the pieces. Trust me, staining first is a must, especially when trying to stain those hard to reach places. You'll notice on the video that I didn't stain the sides of the wood spacers. That because the spacers will only be seen on the ends, so staining the sides was not necessary.
After the stain dried, I assembled the top of the bench first. I clamped a board to the side of my work table so that it gave me a brace to push against while installing all of the pieces. I made a small jig from scrap wood to use as a spacer. Spacers and jigs are the best way to get a perfect measurement every time. If you mark out each measurement with a tape measure you run into a high chance that every spacer would be a bit off, thus the finished product might not look perfect. I also find it is faster and doesn't leave a pencil mark on your stained wood.
The side spacers are measured from each side 1.5 inches and the middle spacer is at the 24 inch mark. Once it is put together it looks absolutely beautiful. I also clamped the top in three different places where all three rows of the spacers are together. I let this dry for a few hours.
Next, I assembled the legs and the leg braces. Using the dowel drill jig, it went together really nice. Always follow the directions on the tool or use Leah's video from above. Once you drill a few holes you will have it mastered!!!
After the legs were assembled, I turned over the top and drilled for the dowels for the legs. I glued them together and tapped them into place. They went together so smooth. At this point I let the whole things dry for a few more hours. I was really happy with how strong and light the whole thing turned out.

This is so interesting I would love to be able to have an idea how to put legs on a farm table. My daughters grandmother handed her a table down, but the low bearing is in the center and will not travel with them. It needs to be on each corner. TY Any suggestions?
