Really? John most likely assumed that any body with enough sense to reload would have enough brains to use the annealer on empty brass. Hence the term RELOADING!!!! He shouldn’t need to hold your hand like a toddler
After considerable time spent reading, watching videos, and thinking about which annealer I wanted to get I bought the EP 2.0. It's a great, inexpensive unit that meets my needs. I thought the little cake pan was a nice touch so I baked a batch of brownies in it.
I've had this exact unit for 2 years now. Works perfectly for the different cartridges I anneal. Learning curve is very short and results are very repeatable.
I've had the EP annealer for just over a year and for me it's perfect. I don't load high volumes of brass so having a "magazine" full of brass isn't a huge deal. Annealing 200 to 300 cases doesn't take as long as you might think. I adjust the rpm so each case spends between 7 and 8 seconds in the flame. I anneal 30-06, 308 Winchester, 7mm-08, 243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.8 SPC, 223 Remington, and 300 Blackout. The unit itself is well made and when I picked it up I was surprised at it's weight for such a small unit. Thanks John!
I had been unable to make a decision until I saw this video. Ordered it last week. Used the promo code. Received it today. These days it’s getting harder and harder to find something that works as advertised, but this did. Setup was a snap. Have already annealed 100 cases. Thank you for your content. Extremely helpful.
Hey john hats off to ya mate. Its nice to see someone promote a product in our reloading process that dosnt cost the earth. Ive got a gas annealer and it works great. Little more fiddly but results are excellent. I bought one of his loading blocks and its the best block I've ever owned. Australia
I have an Aneeleez. I run 500 cases of 5.56 at a time, and use a few pieces of range pick to test the temperature using 750F Tempilaq. It doesn’t turn red at that temperature.
Thanks for showing this option. I went with the Ugly Annealer since I can load up a bunch of brass and not feed each one. I still monitor the process and adjust speed/flame but not having to feed each case was the way to go for me.
Thanks for the promo code! Just ordered it! I’ve been using a socket and cordless impact to do mine and this video showed me I can be more consistent with this EP Annealer.
Thanks John. I finally pulled the trigger in ordering my annealer. For the price and what I’m getting I can’t believe I didn’t order it sooner. I’m looking forward on this next journey into hand loading.
Saved almost $12 with the coupon code, on top of Black Friday savings. Free shipping too. I couldn't find anyone that had anything especially bad to say about the EP annealer, and most of the flame annealers seem to be mostly the same in operation and results.
I have dealt with Tod from EP, super good to deal with. I sent him some 17 🐝 brass to see if it would work, which it did. He gave me a coupon and the annealer works great. I don’t anneal because I cant see a difference on target, but I do anneal to save from getting split necks on thin neck cartridges. Thanks for the review.
Well I’ve been looking at an annealer for a while I’m getting tired of burning my fingers or using a drill and well you sold me on this one I really like how it’s made and looks very simple to use and it’s not big so can’t wait till it arrives thanks again John keep up the good work
I really like my EP 2.0 annealer. I think that bracket for the propane torch is my least favorite thing about it, once I find a way to get the torch to the right height for my brass its all good.
i started with this, but the movable flame torch design is definitely faster and easier when going from different case size to case size. there is a reason why it isn't mounted = fast and easy. I've been down this road before.
I would have bought Todd’s EP annealer but having it shipped to Australia is cost prohibitive so I choose a similar annealer made in Australia called the Ugly annealer that does the job well.
I just ordered this EP annealer a day before your video came out. And I knew this annealer would be a good addition to my reloading set up. I was using a propane torch and socket, but after bushing sizing my brass and firing my reloads. I have noticed that my fired brass necks measurements varied as much as much as .005 between each piece of brass. Hopefully with a more consistent flame and timing heat the neck measurements will be more consistent now.
I made a homemade annealer using table top drill press and torch. Some will say results are inconsistent. My son shot HM in FTR at 1,000 yards couple matches ago and shot the highest score overall in F class. I'm convinced flame annealing works if done right.
tempilaq is your friend... ( use 650 for neck down past the shoulder and down the body far enough to see where 650 stops, then 400 for the case body up to shoulder so I can see exacting how far down 400 is on the body. annealing starts at about 490 so you never want to get close to that anywhere near the case head and thus why 400 really helps you know exactly where that is). I use an AGS, but really any of these that work well is good for those of us that can't justify induction.
I have the Ugly Annealer, I love it, this ones cool too. I also own the EP brass holders, the one made of stainless thats adjustable! I freakin love that thing, I will be buried with it is so bad ass 😭
I like the adjustability of that unit. Just got into reloading. I'm getting inconsistent full length resizing at the shoulder using a headspace comparator so I'm going to try annealing. Limited in canada so looks like I'll be getting the ags v3 annealer
It looks similar to my home built annealer (using parts from an old microwave). My home built does not have a variable speed time adjustment thou... I adjust the heat of the flame... For my next home built annealer I am looking at the GinaErick annealer... designs can be found in the AccurateShooter forum...
i actually started with a "hopper style" annealer... hopper doesn't make it faster from start to finish... hopper or no hopper, if it takes, for example, 5 seconds to anneal XYZ casing, then it still takes 5 seconds per anneal with a hopper or no hopper.. it's not like you can walk away from a flame based annealer and go mow the lawn type thing while the machine is running regardless of the annealer. especially if you reload in 200pcs or less per reloading session. by the time i swap out parts and load up a hopper, i'm already 1/4 of the way into annealing with the EP annealer (don't need to swap out parts) = why a hopper was never added... if you need to pick up the brass and orientate the brass to load it into a hopper or single feed fence = IMO it doesn't matter especially if you reload in 100pcs or less.. 100 pcs x ~5 to ~6 seconds for typical casing with single torch = 550 seconds / 60 seconds = about 9 to 10 minutes per 100pcs = drop in the bucket in the reloading world time clock. JS
I'll just say with my annealeez I can't anneal my 30-06 cases. 223/308 is fine, but 30-06 is too long and sometimes just drops from the wheels that holds it while spinning. Could just be my unit. YMMV
@@Quicks1lvr i have not had issues like that and I do up to 338 lapua. They make several different wheels to use. I assume that your just using the standard ones that come with the unit
Just for poops and giggles in my earlier years of loading I put a win large rifle magnum primer on my anvil vice in the "armory" and wacked it with 2lb hammer just to see how "explosive" it was, actually took 2 hits but that second one made my ears ring
Excellent video on your walk through of this brand of annealer! Your description of process using the EP Brass annealer was spot on I would say and very professional. What is your estimate of number of rounds out a 1 lb., propane tank? Thanks
G'day people im kinda new to the scene, what does this process do to the brass and why do we need to do it, thanks in advance for any replys cheers Yogi 👍
I prefer the "ugly annealer" you fill the hopper and then it goes on it's merry way. The burner is fixed and you can do hundreds of cases per hour. Costs just a wee bit more
@@jaymiller393 I have the UA. It doesn't take very long to load it up. Feeding single cases takes WAY more of your time. Unless you're not processing very many. If you're feeding 10 through it then it probably doesn't matter.

I’ve been doing the drill and socket method for a long time John. But after a while, it starts to hurt my wrist holding that drill up in the air for long periods of time. Welcome to getting old. Seeing your video and just how easy this is I think you’ve made a believer out of me. Thanks for showing us this and thanks to you for the coupon code. It’s much appreciated
That's a nice machine. Another question lol what's a good level that will attach to the pick rail under the scope or somewhere?. I use a piece of florescent string in a tree with a weight tied to it for the scope. I feel there's some inaccuracy in the bubble levels. Just looking for something more precise so the scope track's 100% true up and down.
If you can see it glow, it's already too hot. It begins to glow at ~950° but proper annealing shouldn't exceed 800° for risk of compromising the brass integrity.
I wouldnt trade my AMP Annealer for anything, but when I anneal its usually 500 rounds at a time. I use to flame anneal which does work, but is not even close to being as consistent. The Aztec mode on my Mark 2 is so cool and fast, and gives a precise anneal code for different lots of brass, a feature that makes the AMP worth the investment.
John,do you know anyone that uses a flame annealer that has had their brass hardness tested before and after to see how accurate it actually is ,opposed to an induction annealer(amp)?
Being an AMP owner and a former flame annealer, I can tell you what you are paying for in an AMP is time and convenience. It takes way to long to set up and dial in a flame annealer each and ever time.
John forgot to mention do not use this device on loaded ammo!
You are not serious are you?
Why not? DUH!!!!!!!

The Burstfire annealer is a good option.
How do you like the Burstfire? That's the way I was leaning but haven't pulled the trigger yet

I prefer the "ugly annealer" you fill the hopper and then it goes on it's merry way. The burner is fixed and you can do hundreds of cases per hour. Costs just a wee bit more
Can do the same per hour with this one. The time you use loading hopper you’re dropping brass in the EP and you’re done before hopper method. Js

Love the video and I'll see if I can get this unit sent to australia. Just one question . Do you anneal before or after you've resized brass.
My understanding is to anneal before sizing, this is to make the brass more pliable for the sizing process.
That's a nice machine. Another question lol what's a good level that will attach to the pick rail under the scope or somewhere?. I use a piece of florescent string in a tree with a weight tied to it for the scope. I feel there's some inaccuracy in the bubble levels. Water in The Drop Pan or Not...Just Askin'...
Never tried and don't anyone personally who does it. Sorry.
Don't bother. With annealing, quenching will have zero effect on the brass, so don't bother making the mess and creating more work for yourself.
No need. It doesn't hurt if you do, as brass in non-ferrous, but then you have to spend the time DRYING the cases. Better to just let them air cool
Don't need to drop in water
If you can see it glow, it's already too hot. It begins to glow at ~950° but proper annealing shouldn't exceed 800° for risk of compromising the brass integrity.
