Meals on Wheels is my one hot meal of the day. I'm no longer strong enough to stand up and make my own meals. In addition, the volunteers make certain that they have a contact with me each day. Before I got on the MOW Program, I became stuck in a bathtub for 6 days and might have died there if a friend had not realized that I was not responding to calls. With MOW deliveries, I know that I will see a friendly face 5 days a week and be sure basic nutritional needs are met. Believe me, I am grateful for the volunteers. They go out in all types of horrible weather and still manage to bring a special gift of good cheer to each day.
Looking after others should be everyone's human right. Where I live, the authority looks after me, I call if I need more help. I'm 72 years old they make sure that I am comfortable. At the end of our journey till we die we need help. Shall we be not thrown out because we are elder? Did the 1% of wealthy Americans knows they not taking a penny on their way to hell? You, everybody, deserve a better care.
And this is what Biden is protecting from the Republicans. Say what you want about Biden and I have some negative things to say about him myself but he is a good man who knows what he is doing and does his best for the country. As a man in his 80's who is still doing so much and has seen the biggest economic growth since president Johson and finally investing in infastructure, American manufacturing and many other achievements it makes me so sad he gets so much hate. All from people who can't be bothered to spend 5 minutes on google. I am really disappointed there hasn't been a mass protest at the whitehouse yet to demand Biden envoke the 14th so that it is protected. So many seem to have made up their minds that he is unfit that they don't even bother anymore.

Both my parents volunteered and delivered meals when they retired. I hope to follow in their footsteps IF I am able to retire and IF this program is still around.
My grandmother was able to remain at home due to meals in wheels. It’s not only a meal program but an important way for an older person alone to be checked in on and to have someone to talk to. So many elderly people are totally alone. It’s very sad how families have been separated. You have to ask why. In an age when everyone under 50 wants their “privacy” and everyone over 50 sees what’s coming…

Thanks for helping. I am disabled and had free assistance getting to appointments through the local Senior Center, even though I am 46 YO. I live in Washington State and grew up in Hollywood. It's always nice to pass the reefer to a good friend.

I worked with young adults that had differing levels of mental disability. I had several that volunteered to deliver for Meals On Wheels for their goals that we worked on for participating in local society. They gained so much self esteem and so many of those we served come to look forward to them bringing their meals.
This is a great video! I am a proud delivery volunteer in a different state, also I provide live music with three other musicians, in their centers. My mother is a MOW recipient in another state. Our clients really appreciate us! If you’d like to volunteer, I can’t think of a better way.
Reminds me of how, about 6 years ago, Trump's proposed budget wanted to cut block grants that support Meals on Wheels and similar programs. It's just sickening how they give huge tax breaks for the rich and then use that to justify cutting spending. btw, I love the background music in this one, it's very folksy just like Bernie is!

The GOP is always quick to point to the Soviet Union as proof that communism means oppression but one thing that should be asked is what was Russia like before communism? Truth is that Russia was an oppressive autocracy for over 400 years already and had feudalism until as recently as the late 19th century and corruption and exploitation is a core part of it's identity. So if anything Russia should be proof about the limitations of communism. Communism tried and failed to change the autocratic government of Russia and so shouldn't it make sense it also won't be able to change the democratic system of the United States?
China is the same way. If you read stories about the late Ming dynasty with their deep state of beaurocrats and secret police that was spying on everyone with large state abuses of power you can see the parallels with the modern CCP. On top of that Saudi-Arabia, modern Russia, Mexico, Yemen, Rwanda, Germany and the United States are all capitalist but I wouldn't call them similar in freedom or human rights or equally successful. I think we need to realize that the fearmongering about "communism" has always been a lie and we were stupid to buy it in the first place. The Soviet Union was oppressive because Russia has always been an oppressive state and communism was not strong enough to change that.
This needs to be standardised and provided by government. Not just sparsley provided based on luck from peoples charity. The private sector is horrible at providing essential goods and services in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly. And by the way, if you BECOME a volunteer, you can be stuck with someone as a boss who is never satisfied with what you do in the kitchen preparing the meals. Many of those in the kitchen are doing community service. Either because of a sentence or because they need to earn their food stamps somehow. Those trying to earn food stamps are often treated very poorly as volunteers in the kitchen!
He knows that the last thing we need right now is a fragmentation of the democratic party...look what it cost us in 2016. Sure he would have been the better president but that should be sailed and he is doing a lot of good right where he is; he knows what he's doing.
Show the actual meals. I have yet to find anyone who wanted to be served here--it is family who want them to get a meal. Food waste is a huge environmental problem.

The program is very efficient and effective managed by a private non profit organization. All we need are more donors, and more volunteers.
