  • Camping on top of a mountain in Shiretoko, Hokkaido has been one of our favourite outdoor experiences to date. Shiretoko National Park 知床国立公園 has one of the highest densities of bears in the world, so hiking this track was a little scary but camping at the top was well worth it!

    Hey guys! This was the most intense outdoor adventure we’ve done in Japan so far - our bodies would definitely agree. After this we’ll be heading south onto the main island again, let us know if there are any outdoor things you want to see from us.

    I am envious. My wife and I were at the trail bottom in 2017 when we lived in Sapporo. That bear sighting signboard is really interesting. Love Siretoko peninsula and the area hot springs.

      It was a great hike! Even if it was a little exhausting 😅 Yeah Shiretoko is one of our favourite areas in Hokkaido. Do you still live in Japan now? Also, thanks for watching!

      @@RoyandAimee No, I live in the states. I've lived a total of 17 years in Japan over the past 48, and still like to camp and hike there for 2 or 3 weeks each year. Covid has kept me out for almost 2 years now. I am itching to return as soon as the borders open again.

    Bears are fine.. in Canada they are everywhere. People hardly ever get eaten.

      Yeah true, there’s a lot of other things that can be more dangerous than bears. Would love to do some hiking in Canada! What part of Canada are you from?

      @@RoyandAimee Haha, Vancouver but close to the mountains so bears always walk through the neighborhoods but unless you're near a cub or they are really having a bad day.. you're fairly good to go..

      Wow that's definitely very different for us coming from Australia but I can imagine it'd be easy to get used to!

    Awesomeness guys!! Glad you had fun 😃👍.. did you have to get permissions in advance to fly drones In the national parks?

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! As far as we know, you don't need to get permission to fly drones in national parks in Japan. You just need to make sure your drone is 30m away from people, buildings etc.

      That’s awesome! Where will you be visiting? Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll make it to Hokkaido this summer 😭 We’re going to try and get to a few of the mountains in the Japanese Alps instead.
