I'm so used to Tim's version and all of a sudden I hear it in it's true essence. It moves me. This song has always spoken to me because it reminds me of an episode in my life with a gal who I was deeply in love with at the time, but geography and timing just weren't on our side, and although my life turned out well, I've always wondered "what if..."
I think everyone can relate in someway to this song. Not in the sense of having to give a child up, but of being young and in love and growing apart. No matter how many years pass we all think about that first love. I know I always will.
100% I still think about my first real love all the time. We all miss that excitement, memories, and newness. I saw mine about 5 years ago - I was kinda like the Dan folgerberg (sp) old kang syne song. It was a great hour or so!
Jason, I lived this song 27 years ago. It takes me back everytime I hear it. My decision was forced on me against my will, but the rest of the song speaks volumes of my mental state at the time. I promise that girl has never stopped loving you or forgotten that decision, just as you appear to have not. Thank you for writing this song and giving a voice to what I could not.
Picture the one at the stop light gazing into the cabriolet is the girl in the song. She notices a green eyed girl and imagines its the child they chose not to have. Completely different.
THIS is the song that made me start digging modern country music. So real. No sanctimonious bullshit. Real life. Real people. Real honesty. Epic tune dude. Always makes me stop whatever I'm doing to just think and listen. thanks for putting it out there. Mike -Huntington Beach, Ca.
Rediscovering my love for Jason white again.. shades of gray, tonight’s top story, whenever or whatever I listen to by him I can’t help but just have to stop what I’m doing and listen to his words. One of the best songwriters and storytellers I’ve ever heard. From the first time I listened to my parents bootleg of him live at a friends birthday party in the early 2000s I’ve known and grew up with his music. And now the songs take on a different meaning at 26 years old that make me appreciate Jason’s innate wisdom even more, thank you for everything
@@ultravioletpisces3666 I'm sorry but if you had heard it before McGraw, you'd probably think the way I do. To me McGraw is sterile. When he does it, I feel the emotion. I love country and folk rock but I have to admit, I've never been a Tim McGraw fan. I'm more of a Mark Chesnutt fan, when it comes to country.
This song reminds me so much of my high school sweetheart. The song she dedicated to me was Hanging By A Moment by Lifehouse. Whenever I hear that song I also have to listen to this one, and vice versa.
Yep...sooo many artists from this young man Jason here to John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Mozart et al...." It was like I was channeling it...it basically wrote itself." Or as Norman Greenbaum so elequently said.."There's a Spirit in the Sky"..This song and the feeling and emotion it evokes makes it in my top 10 practise tunes for my pedal steel..THANKS for posting
Always love hearing songwriters perform their own songs; striking the vast many what go on to become massive hits through other's mere projection - beautiful. 😿🎶 #происхождения
>Type in Red Ragtop >Red Ragtop by Jason White >My name is Jason White >Find out song was written by Jason White >Have a hearty chuckle Great performance
I heard the original version on 91.3 The Summit in Akron, Ohio before Tim McGraw. I loved the song from the first note. Whenever I'd hear the McGraw version, I'd tell everyone around me how they should hear the original. I'm sorry to be so critical but I thought that McGraw butchered it. But I am glad it helped put food on Jason White's table.
I enjoyed this version, but I have to say, the intimacy of the performance was somewhat ruined by sitting between these two guys holding guitars. Weird.
There's something pure and real about this version of the song

Jason definitely not reading this. Sorry.

I would rather listen to the honesty and feeling of this version any day...
One of the best songs ever....thank you for expressing your experience through song. Perfect.
Damn. How have I missed this? All here, the song, the vocals, and the picking performed by the song writer.

I like this better than Tims version. This has that Bob Dylan feel to it. It feels so real.
Whoah I just said that about Dylan! This is more like folk rock vs Tim's country version. I like Tim's better but this is also really nice.

I love this song. It's literally the story of my life. It's so cool to hear Jason sing it - more meaningful for sure.
Wonderful acoustic performance of this song!
Feel the emotions, always such a powerful song

Someone seriously needs to make a tutorial for this song. I can't get it. I wanna play it so bad.

This version reminds me of like bob dylan style... folk rock. Its interesting.
@JohnnyRockMe
I completely agree! Well said!

They decided not to have a child.
As a Choice.
We have rights as women. We need to stand for them.
Amen!
start by putting your guitar into banjo tuning.
Kind of a Bob Dylan sound.

WAY better than Lil Tim's version!
I wouldn't say 'better'. I like this version more. But that's just my opinion. Doesn't mean it's right or even that my opinion makes sense.

Look up who those guys are, dummy.
@@feaw3 Where do I look that up? In the Jason White National Archive & Library? But I don't care who they are, it's still weird.
