This is the second Valentina video I've watched and I'm feeling this has the makings of a cool channel. You've got me geeked about reading The Secret History and exploring Donna Tartt's work. Thank you..
It’s my life’s work I hope u enjoy it :)
yes! thank you for making this-it was fun listening to you glow! 😊
i couldn't help thinking of a quote from a book i read on the the greek independence movement of 1821 by Mark Mazower:
"Heroes come with certain drawbacks. They populate static tableaux designed to illustrate immortal values; they do not exist in a historical landscape whose meaning changes with time and perspective. Moreover, the heroic drama highlights one group and one set of mostly martial virtues at the expense of others that were in reality no less important."
i felt this probably is the case in more places than we realize and it's no wonder recognizing and exploring the related feelings is so intriguing!
Wait this quote is so relevant and interesting, I’m definitely going to check that out. Thank you for the great insight and I’m glad you enjoyed ☺️🫂
@@bookpogo of course! 🫂😊

I’m going to start reading it today for the first time. I hope I love it a lot 🙏🏻
Me too!
you are SOOOO right on the language and the fact that it's concise
Like, “It is here that the stilted mannequins of my initial acquaintance begin to yawn and stretch and come to life,” is a crazy and perfect and concise way to describe a growing familiarity ….
Around the time I was reading The Secret History and listening to the Bennington podcast I found an invitation to apply there in an old schoolbag, and lamented my directionless youth. Although it probably would have been a terrible idea because I'd be in massive debt now.
Massive debt yes, but what an incredible experience it could’ve been haha. I mourn my time never spent there despite not knowing about Bennington before applying to college hahaha
loved this! have you read patti smith? i would love to hear your thoughts on her and her books too!
I have not! Let me know if you have a rec and I will add to my tbr 🤓
I am glad this book spoke to you. I thought it was good but did not feel wowed. Have you read the Goldfinch or the Little Friend? I have the Goldfinch on my TBR shelf and plan to give her another try. I am hoping to feel like you do about The Secret History.
Have you tried We Were Villains they seemed similar you may enjoy it as well.
I’ve only read the goldfinch and I loved it. So dense and fast paced 🙌 I just saw the goldfinch in person a few months ago and it was a very full circle moment. I hope you enjoy!
Ok, i gotta go pick up a copy of this book now
Sometimes I fear it’s overhyped but then I remember why I love it so much and IDGAF. The writing is phenomenal. Let me know if you enjoy it if you do read :)
@@bookpogo the bookstore i went to didnt have it :/ but they had a copy of Lucky Jim! It was definatley a little light and had some fluff, but was fun and silly enough to get me through to the end. I also ended up getting more attatched to the characters than i realized.
You should read babel
You should not record in mirror mode. Its hard to read a covers you are showing😥
Spoilers for the ending; but a while after I read the book, I was going through the ending pages looking for something, and I saw the scene where Henry died and I had completely forgotten that he had died. Completely just blanked it out. So I spoiled it for myself lol. It would have been funny to reread the book having forgotten about that.
