trust me, this video was not useless, as you say!! I really really enjoyed it-scratched the right part of my brain. I also love just going to my shelf and just hold my favorite copies. the black edition of the secret history is so satisfying to hold to me😭
noo cos this is so much fun.. i understand the need for a book that feels Right in your hands.. the book Feel is so important to me... it manifests for me in spending my life watching bids on ebay for like £2.50 mass market paperbacks of classics because i just enjoy a small compact book so much more than a new edition
Don’t worry about saying “like.” I’m a lawyer, so I frequently read transcripts of my own speech. I say the word “ok” more than any human alive. So long as your filler word of choice doesn’t distract the listener or obscure your message, you’re good. So keep saying “like.”
I feel so understood!!! here in Europe we mostly have UK editions and God do I hate UK paperbacks!!!! they are soooo stiff and they just don't do the smooth covers that the Americans do. also the cover design is almost always better for US editions :( I very much enjoy Fitzcarraldos though, REALLY nice paper
Nothing better than a solid paperback! Some of my favourites come from Alfaguara Editorial. They've got those fancy flip out inserts you can use as bookmarks. The covers are always great as well, especially El cielo de Madrid!
LEGIT the reading experience should be entailed in the design of a book. I always HATE when publishers just take the physicality of a book as an afterthought. It makes no sense to me. Omg holding the first edition of Glamorama felt SOOO NICE! Loooved holding it in my hands as a read. The typeface and cover and all is so well thought out. *Also I find myself still saying like or um but it’s just practice! 😭 😭 😭 I think you’re doing a good job kween!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a weirdish obsession with physical books. I absolutely LOVE the smell of books. (most) I love to flip the pages through my hands while reading. I'm more of hardcover girlie but I love both in different ways. 📚📖🧡
i just saw your vid and i’ve been reading on a kindle, you made me pull out my anna karenina physical copy and i ate it up!! thanks for reminding me how physical books are the best ❤
Pointless? Absolutely essential more like. For me, it is very important how a book feels, looks, handles, smells even. But in contrast to your opinion, I hate paper that is too soft. I find those Princeton 'how to' series, for example, far too 'slippery' for my taste. I dislike the dustcovers as well, as they grip and feel oily to the touch in a sense. But those series are bad anyway, as it continues this awful trend of reading secondary or limited sources, instead of the primary source.
Love this type of video! I too know a great deal of a book most loved. The best book is one that has a broken spine, yellowed pages, coffee stains, dog ears, and the cover a bit torn off on the edges. I have two such books like that that I continue to read multiple times. There are also books that I keep in high pristine condition, my hardbacks and my tomes such as War & Peace and my NYRBs. I love the floppy books and I am currently reading The Brothers Karamazov (Pevear and Volokhonsky translation) and the smoothness of this book is great and makes for a good and comfortable reading experience. Keep making great videos and I look forward to the day you rank your top 5-10 fav Dostoevsky books. :)
Can't say I've ever seen a video quite like this on the physical aesthetics of books entirely, not necessarily related to literary quality 😏😺 If saying "like" is your natural way of speaking I think there's, like, nothing wrong with that.
also i want to point out an observation on the quality of books in English (paperbacks at least) in my experience being much lower in terms of paper, than in my native language Greek, and I’ve seen this elsewhere about other countries using better paper too. It’s very interesting in Greece most paperbacks look and feel very high quality. I suppose it’s because English books are produced jn much larger quantities, but still it makes me sad now that I live abroad and they’re my only option 🙁
haha, your "ooo-" after saying like is funny and cute 😄 5:33 that is TOO relatable! I can sit or stand in my room talking to myself and say things just as I want to explain them, saying things so well! but the moment I set up my phone and click record it's like I'm too concerned with the recording that I'm unable to really say what I want to say. granted, I make videos kind of inconsistently, taking breaks at times, which doesn't help with camera comfortability. those front and back flaps on paperbacks are called French flaps btw
such a relatable video. i don’t know if you’ve ever heard about polish author witold gombrowicz but i think you’d like him. i recommend „cosmos” soooo freaking much. i don’t know if it is as good in english as it is in polish but i hope so.
This was like ASMR, but BETTER. If you know what I mean. I'm going to come back to this one for relaxation purposes. Also, spontaneous videos, topics are the best.
these kinds of atypical videos that you make are awesome. keep making whatever you want.
Thank you 🥹

my thoughts exactly!! the way books feel when you hold them physically affects ur whole reading experience (atleast in my case lol)
@@sarochaspicy no bc it really does!! that’s why I’m always willing to spend a bit more money on more favourable editions

Ohhhh you get it 🏃♀️ and yess I’m looking forward to that day to haha
I love a good floppy paperback. Library of America makes great quality hardcovers that can take a beating. They have some flex to the covers too.

Una buena traducción para "llamativo" podría sería "striking" o "eye catching"
yeah as a non native speaker myself i was wondering what would be a good translation but nothing came to mind but these are 10/10
