  • This episode features a conversation with former In Flames members Peter Iwers and Daniel Svensson. Recorded on the promotional rounds for The Halo Effect's debut album, "Days of the Lost", the episode has been available via Scars and Guitars on podcast apps since June 7, 2022. Because of the keen interest in the episode featuring Jesper Strömblad and In Flames, this conversation is now available for the audience on UA-cam.
In this interview, Peter and Daniel explore how "Days of the Lost" relates to In Flames' album, "Reroute to Remain," and how it influenced the musical direction of their new band. They take us on a journey through "Days of the Lost's" connection to their past with In Flames and share insights into their organic approach to music, emphasising the importance of letting creativity flow naturally without overthinking.
Learn about the behind-the-scenes collaboration with producer Oscar Nilsson as they delve into the lyrical themes explored in the album. Discover how Peter and Daniel's musical connection has evolved as they complement each other's playing, giving birth to The Halo Effect as a distinct entity from In Flames.
We uncover the In Flames' evolution and unwavering pursuit of improvement in their craft. In Flames' influence on the metalcore genre and their pivotal role in the rock and metal revival of the early 2000s are duly acknowledged. Moreover, we shed light on Scandinavia's enduring passion for rock and metal and its supportive music community that encourages creativity and genre-crossing collaboration.
Peter and Daniel discuss The Halo Effect's unique musical approach, staying true to their creative instincts while avoiding stagnation. Humble about their past achievements with In Flames, the duo firmly focuses on their current project, cherishing the joy of making music and delivering exceptional performances on stage.
The interview also captures their gratitude for the experiences with In Flames and how it keeps them grounded as they pursue new musical endeavours. The excitement for the (then) upcoming tour is palpable as they cherish the shared musical experience that epitomises In Flames' legacy in heavy metal.

Peter correctly highlights Daniel's previous band Sacrilege.
Please tell me you have since gone and listened to their two incredible albums, 'Lost in the Beauty You Slay' and 'The Fifth Season'. Both absolute monsters!

Yes! I’ve heard them. “Lost in the…” Is very raw swe-death and the progression to “The Fifth Season” is crucial, blackened sounds interface with the Gothenburg thing going on. They are both different, yet killer albums. I didn’t know about them back in the day.

Hi Andrew, I just want to say that I just recently discovered you and have been listening to your recent podcast episodes (plus your back catalog) for about month or so on iTunes. The Cradle of Filth Chronicles are absolutely awesome! Hearing Trey's mom, David Vincent, Jesper, Michael Amot, Astennu, David Vincent, Eric Rutan... Basically all my Heroes is really great.. I can feel your genuine love and appreciation for metal which makes the conversations great. You are now my go-to guy for extreme metal interview's. Your Cradle of Filth Chronicles re-sparked my love for those albums, which I haven't listened to in a long long time. Sending you Horn's 🤘 from Detroit, Michigan

Thx brother. Great to hear. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to talk to the musicians that had such a tremendous impact on my psyche in the late 90s. I’m very grateful too, for your comment. That the conversations add value is very meaningful and I really appreciate the feedback.

Fantastic that you were able to get Peter and Daniel on a long format like this. I listened to the other interview you had with Jesper as well. To hear these legends is amazing for us fans. Only one suggestion if I may, try to talk a little bit less about “post/pre Reroute” bit you mentioned in both interviews. It may just be me, but it comes off as condescending to these artists. Art is subjective, and some people who spend a lot of time on their work as these musicians may not have the same opinion as yourself, even though you are trying to come off as a fan of that earlier work. They were really nice about it, but it is tough to watch those interactions, and sometimes you restated your point again again and again. We fans love their work, so thanks again for the interviews and they were great otherwise. Cheers 🥂

You're definitely not a troll, but I disagree. I frequently mention that it's my responsibility to uncover the underlying truths. I find it challenging to listen to the majority of metal podcasts, as they don't delve into matters deeply enough or seek meaningful understanding. I try.
