Work in a well-ventilated area and always wear safety glasses and wear a mask. Using a fan in the room helps. Always use lead-free solder.

Love your videos and books. I am a silversmith, but am new to soft soldering. I have learned a lot from you, many thanks! But if I may offer one little tip in return... When you are hammering metal on a bench block, hold the end of the piece OFF the edge of the block. Less likely to hammer your fingers! 😉

It’s different for every person you just have to experiment with your iron. They are not all the same.

Does the gauge for the wire makes any difference?
You can try whatever gage you like, maybe start with whatever is easy for you to work with. Thanks for watching! 🌻
I’m curious would the solder ever tarnish?
Over time from being exposed to air, yes, just like sterling or copper it will eventually tarnish and need a quick polish.
hi! i just wanna try soldering. Do you think it is okay to start soldering without mask? if i like it i will buy a mask later
You certainly should use some type of protection, even if its just soldering outside or near a window with a fan but I always recommend a fume extractor and a mask.
How do you clean your piece?
I just used soap and water and buffed it with a cloth! Thanks for watching! 🌻
