"Turn off the soldering iron when not in use"
*proceeds to turn it on
Opened comments looking for this one

Same here. Opened the comments to see this. I knew someone would beat me to it. Lol 😂
60 watt soldering iron in use here. I find that the hoof form works best for desoldering DC jacks etc. The fine tip never seems to work out for me, not even when desoldering smd components. It just isn't able to transfer enough heat to melt the factory tin. Always have to use flux, then my own bought tin to touch it with so it starts melting. But never by itself.
hold the side of the conical tip to the pin and not vertically like a pen. Mr. solderfix has videos showing this
"It's easy to forget" Sounds like present Collin is giving future Collin an excuse. 😁
and turns it on while saying it xD nice video.
Also, when done soldering, clean the tip with brass wool as shown. Then clean the tip with tip tinner to remove any impurities followed by brass wool again. Lastly, apply a liberal amount of fresh solder to the tip until it's about to drip, then turn off the iron. Coating the tip with solder will keep it from oxidizing and pitting. I've been doing this for 10+ years and I'm still using my original tips.
I like the video, but, at the end, when the hand's supposed to be turning the iron off, is it actually being turned on? It could be me.. .🙄
@@stephendietz1229 yep it is
@@stephendietz1229 Which always reminds me of this sketch from the IT Crowd: ua-cam.com/video/XmIOrCdh9pI/v-deo.html
@@stephendietz1229 ever consider that was a bit of subtle humor?
@@giraffesushi8112 Interesting.... is this also an exercise in subtle humor? 😉 Oh no! My life has been a lie for the last 2 years. I need time to think about how it all went wrong. 😔
I don't know if it's just me but i find Collin's voice almost hypnotic, his knowledge and the way he presents shows just keeps me hooked.
what about his signature curved conical tip?
Does soldering tip break? I have 2 soldering tips, one that came with my pinecil v2 then the other one I bought online. The one I bought online suddenly stopped working and correct me if I’m wrong but I think my pinecil is not detecting it while the one that came with it still works.
I think there's some variant of the hoof tip that's great for drag soldering, has a little dent in it. I don't have one yet though.
How about knife tip? I find it very versatile because I can use it from two directions
I find that with a proper setting on the soldering station, I get better results from a large hoof on small parts than a small tip. I set it just a little above the solder’s melting point, get a tiny dot of solder on the iron to be a heat bridge, and then flow solder into the joint. However, I don’t do anything smaller than 0805s... stuff like SOIC and QFP devices are done with drag soldering. Also, magnification is essential (I’ve got a stereo microscope, but even a desk-mounted magnifying glass helps).
But you are illustrating a turning on the power in the end of the video
I have the hoof. DIdn't know it was dangerous
What kind for soldering led emitter?
Hoof always, just various sizes.

Thankyou very much for uploading this informational video. 👍 (Mudy) Hoof tip is so commonly available over here. If we ask for a soldering iron over here shop keepers will give the hoof. And i have been using it for years it's so bad , no life, and it will damage the circuit board too. I have damaged many more by using this soldering iron. I would like to order pointed one.
I have all four types of tips, I basically only use the "fine point" and "hoof".
I wonder how it is possible to damage smd components with a hoof tip, i mean i always solder smd parts with a hoof tip 😞
Remember to turn off the power.
Proceeds to turn on the power.😂
Yes, its easy to forget to turnoff the iron. I always do that. 😖
I love my hoof tip. Thanks for the tips
What iron do you use?
I got same iron
❤❤❤❤❤🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👍👍
overheating and high voltage damages soldering iron. so you might wanna install a fuse and diode
