Salim Khan served the Department of Archeology, Government of Pakistan from 1961 to 1973 as a Modeller and then as a Display Officer. His excellent creative and genius ideas helped give new looks to display work in all museums under the administrative control of the federal government. His talent as an artist and modeller is best reflected in his work in the newly built museum at Mohenjo-Daro in 1961-1964. Here besides display work in individual showcases, he took the help of miniature models and dioramas. He also created a huge mural recreating the 5000-year-old city panorama of the city of Mohenjo-Daro and a few huge models of animals on the external walls of the museum building. In 1964 when the President of Pakistan inaugurated this museum, he particularly appreciated the creativity, imagination and innovation of Mr. Salim Khan in creating the 5000 years of life of the Indus Valley Civilization through reliefs, models, dioramas and colossal mural paintings.
