    Saw your video through Steve Good's Scroll Saw workshop. This is the best video ever to show how to make a bowl like this. Thanks so much.

    Thanks for the feedback. I actually put in an order for a Shop Fox 16" last night, so we will see how it does. I am really looking forward to a scroll saw. I bout it along with a Grizzly bandsaw that I have wanted and saved for for a long time, so my woodworking is about to take some interesting new directions.

    contrasting wood would definitely be an improvement! The scroll saw is a Rexon VS4003A. It vibrates heavily, so I would not buy it again.

    Thankyou ever so much, I learned something new today. I often wondered about the angle compared to the wood thickness. Thankyou for sharing your expertise.

    May I congratulate you on using gravity for clamping, and a tree stub on which gravity may act.
    You have there a nice bit of geometry how one can get a voluminous effect from a small thickness plank. There is good logic how to obtain that angle for the cut.Problems like this should be given to school children to find solutions to problems. Once I had a mathematics teachers who could not see how his mathematics are applied in three dimensions and to him mathematics were simply remembering formulas. Once I made model out of straight lines to make hyperbolas and cones and parabolas and when I told him that is what he teaches me, he was surprised that I could depict what he told me in three dimensions as in this case.
    Congratulations, this bowl has much more richness in knowledge that one can show on a video. Hope that many children see this.

    If you look under the table of your pillar drill there is a nut that you can loosen and then you can tilt your pillar drill table to any angle you desire. Just do the nut up again when you reach the desired angle you want to work at.

    A little trick with polydraw. If you make the # of waves negative you get petals. If you make the # of waves negative and the wave amplitude negative, you get a burr.

    Otherwise the rings would not lock into each other. They would simply slip through, because of the material cut away by the blade.

  • @spilperson

    My wife really liked it, so did I. Especially for your first! I think it might look nice to add one (maybe more?) rings of a contrasting color. Can I ask what kind of scroll saw you have, and do you like it?

    The wood is 1.7 cm thick pearwood.
    Regarding the lines, I'm not sure I understand your question.
    The lines have the exact same spacing as the rings. Just take a scrap piece of the same piece of wood, and extend the lines downwards using a combination square. Did you look at the template in the description?

    A very good video but could you please advise the lines you made regarding finding the tilt of the table? How did you develop the spacing and what did it turn out to be. Also what is the wood and more importantly what is its thickness. I look forward to your reply if you would be so kind. Thanks again.

    Ist diese Schale wasserfest oder kann man da nur feste Stoffe rein tun?

    • @FabiansTinyWorkshop
      @FabiansTinyWorkshop  9 років тому +2

      OpenGL4ever Wenn du wasserfesten Leim benutzt ist die Schale Wasserfest. Ich würde in eine Holzschale aber z.B. keine Flüssigkeit länger stehen lassen, denn nach einiger Zeit saugt sich das Holz mit der Flüssigkeit voll oder die Schale muss lückenlos mit einem wasserfesten Finish überzogen werden.

    Good night, Fabian's. I wonder what angle you used to make the cuts for this BOWL? Thanks and a big hug.

    • @FabiansTinyWorkshop
      @FabiansTinyWorkshop  8 років тому

      +Alberto Thomaz Hello, at 0:25 I show how to find the right angle. The angle depends on the thickness of the material.

    • @davevaness4172
      @davevaness4172 7 років тому

      The angle is determined by the width of the rings and thickness of the wood. Here he uses a piece of wood with the same thickness to make an angle gauge.

    Wirklich schöne Videos! Lässt mich meine Dekupiersäge mit ganz anderen Augen sehen... :)
    Darf man fragen, was das bei 4:10 für ein Aufsatz an der Standbohrmaschine ist? ist das ein Eigenbau?
    Beste Grüße,

      Ah, sowas habe ich mir schon gedacht. Konkave Flächen zu schleifen war für mich bislang immer problematisch. Da hilft der Tellerschleifer auch nicht weiter...

      Die Dekupiersäge ist unheimlich nützlich wenn man Kopierfrässchablonen für die Oberfräse herstellen möchte und die Schablone viele Freiformflächen und Kurven haben soll.
      Mit einer Stichsäge ist das im Prinzip zwar auch möglich, aber damit geht es nur grob und niemals so präzise wie mit einer Dekupiersäge.
