Installing a Billet Oil Cooler on my Turbo Mini Cooper
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лис 2024
- Knowing that your oil won’t overheat when you continue to push its limits is reassuring. If your engine oil overheats, its lubrication properties will degrade, your oil pressure will decrease, and your odds of spinning a bearing becomes very likely. Most vehicles don’t have oil coolers as standard, which means if you like beating on your car like I do, you have to watch those temps. If they climb, you have to taper back. But what if you want do keep pushing on it..? WELL I HAVE A SOLUTION!!!
If you remember from a previous video, after I built my MINI engine and installed a larger turbocharger on it, I data-logged and e-tuned my car so the guys at RPM Power could get the MINI running right. Well this Billet Oil Cooler kit is from them as well. Top tier products is what you can expect from them, and they delivered once more!!! In this video, I install their Billet Oil Cooler Kit on my JCW MINI. It is compatible with any of the Turbo 2nd Gen MINIs.

On a side note, this is probably going to be the last video before I hit 300,000 subscribers. I can't believe that my channel has come this far, and I have to thank each and every one of you. 🙏 To those who are subscribed, those of you who are active, and then awesome people here who make this a better community, I can't thank you enough!! I this isn't a 'large' milestone in UA-cam's eyes, but this is in mine for sure. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!! 💯 With my studies at Brock University finishing up in the next couple days, it means I'll be able to grind it out and get back to what I love doing, making content for you guys 🙌 Thank you again, and I look forward to see what is to come in the next 300,000k #appreciationpost #300k #roadto600k #letsgetthisminiontheroad
I’ve been here since 80k subscriber it’s a blast watching your videos thanks for your advices and good content
congrats bro!
Been watching your channel for near 4 years now its great
I've been on your channel since you first featured the Mini. I have a Mini myself and it has been awesome watching you progress with the Mini. Mostly everything you've done with the Mini, I have done as well.
Do great in school because that takes presidence over anything else. Their will be plenty of time for doing what you love most...doing mods.
After your done, hurry back. I really like watching the detail you put into the cars you restore/mod. Thank you so much for the great content. Peace.
I really like what you do and I Being here since day one on that mini build and I also buy a mini s to build my own project thanks for teaching us how to make Mini Monster's people get impresses how this cars handle in track!!!
Good morning,
I'm an older car guy that owns a 2012-JCW-R58 and I just want to tell you that I'm very thankful of your detailed explanations. As they say: "The devil is in the details..." May you continue to grow and have fun in assisting other's.
Happy motoring!
👏👍👏
Thanks for sharing!! Cheers Jorge 🙌
I saw someone do this with used parts many years ago! That guy was a genius ❤😊
Day of judgement will come before this mini ever steps foot on the streets lolll
Ahah feels like that tbh..
@@milanmastracci I hope it lasts. From another BMW driver it's a blast to drive and b*tch to maintain. You're lucky you're a techie though. Happy driving. Your new ride, might I say F30? I'm sure it's a Dub tho.
Jusy a little tip from a 20yr lic tech. You never put thread sealant on a compression fitting. You can actually create a leak.
Other than that you make excellent instructional car enthusiast videos. I love what your doing with the accord. The road less travelled is always more rewarding!
you can use thread seal tape though. AKA plumbers tape.
This build is the dream. Such a comprehensive upgrade. Hope I can do the same to my mini some day..
At this point, the Mini is more of a show car than a drive-able toy. So damn pretty! Nearly too damn pretty! Love the content, Brostracci!
No way! I've got mine ready to install can't wait to do it and now this a full guide too! Get what you pay for
With this kit, it's a lot easier than you think. The hardest part is going to be drilling into the crash bar
@@milanmastracci defo! I plan on removing all my ac too
VW GOLF GTI ????? Shout out from South Africa bro !!!
Where you from bro
I was gonna say the same
Durban bro.
I'm also thinking Golf gti.. also from Durban bro
The new oil cooler was a wise choice and s great investment. You videos are quite informative and straight to the point
.I think your new "buy" is the little BMW but I'm at a loss of the name of it.
Keep your great videos coming.
Thanks Frank! You mean like a BMW 3 series?
@@milanmastracci Yes sir, that's the one I was thinking about. Good luck with whatever you purchase 👍
Congratulations! Just relax ... it will keep growing!
For me its another mini, probably f56 😍
Looking forward to the RPM valve cover 🤩
That makes two of us! 🙌
Fyi you don't need to use thread sealant on an lines as they seal by the 37° conical seal built in. Long as the tips of these fittings are clean and torqued properly they will seal.
Hi
Great video
Can you please send the link for he oil cooler because the link you posted is for the rust remover .
Love your channel! I’ve got a Mini Cooper s, R58 2012. 👍😊
Thank you! Eh that's awesome 🙌
milanmastracci but unfortunately I’ve got timing chain problems, so getting it replaced 😱😱
And what with the oil from cooler when you shut off the engine? Isnt not going back to oil pan and making there will be 1 liter more oil or so? It wont damage the engine?
Gotta tuck the intake side of the turbo blanket in so it doesn't cover the feed lines. Hate to think of all the people who have coked up their oil feed lines because of Forge's half-assed instructions.
A gti?
More content please pal miss your frequent uploads
Oh me too! I'll be done school as of this Monday so you can expect more videos to come out after that 🙌
I did this on my r53 it took me 4 hrs to get the oil housing pump off. a pita to get out
or an Audi TT lol
AN fittings DO NOT require thread sealant. Always lubricate O ring seals before installation 🤷🏼♂️ the missing details will always determine your knowledge FFS

I've been subscribed to Milan for a few years now (four or three I think) and I've never seen the Mini run lol
It was on the road a bit last year. Drove it around town, brought it to the track, and drove it to Ocean City, MD and back :) It will be on the road more this year for sure!
Ive been subscribed for a few years too, I remember videos with it running. Mostly because the front bumper didn't look like the other jcw bumpers
You could just do clear flood mode. Foot all the way down to the floor on the accelerator pedal cuts fuel out of the equation. Would've saved yourself a little bit of time. Just a heads up. What you did works fine as well
Oh that's sweet! The more ya know 👍
@@milanmastracci yessir. When the pedal is pressed and goes past 80% throttle, it shuts off the injectors
Have you ever tested whether it's really worth it to purchase a Dooxi Car Adaptation products?
Are you getting a Mini? You are going to love it man!
LOL I already have a MINI
Volkswagen GTI?
Hi you haven't specified where you got the Seals from?
Always love your videos. Did you have a front end collision? I remember your upper support being body color. Anyway, this oil cooler video is great and wish I had installed one on my last repair.
Hey Brent! I simply didn't have that piece installed for the video. It is on the car now :) Thank you!
What is the gold coating on the DDM Works Ram Air?
Not for a Cooper but should the oil feed line go from the engine to turbo to cooler or from engine to cooler then turbo?
Man that mini Cooper looking sexy af!!!
I hope it’s a gti 👌

is it a golf
Hi did you change your rad fan? If yes what spec of the rad fan are you using?
you can have same results with Mocal plate for 1/3 of price :)
Please tell me you got another vw
Hi, can you tell me what happens to the two ports that used to carry water to the heat exchanger? The new plate only had the 2 oil cooler ports with no through put for the water or am i missing something?
the plate has a channel for the water to get routed back into the motor. It's like pass through port.
@@LanPhantom I can't see the by pass on this plate, i know others on the market have it but this one only has the 2 ports from what i can see - the ones that line up with the oil ports. Perhaps i'm missing something? And while i'm in full moan mode i would say the cooler is actually only a 5 row at best as I presume it's a double pass design otherwise the oil will simply go in one port and straight out of the other without passing through the cooler and i have to say the top and bottom plates look like they may not be oil carrying channels but rather strengthening plates - once again i could be wrong! Its a lot of oil to push through not many rows.
But perhaps it works really well and i'm being synical but i might argue whether it is the best kit on the market!
@@THINKAUTO I'm guessing they didn't want the extra cost and effort of making the loop and are assume any air trapped in those dead ends at the plate will get bled out of the system. Seems weird to me, but meh, probly fine. IMO most people shouldn't do this and if they do, a small cooler is best. Maybe even put it behind the other radiators out of direct air(unless will be on the track a lot) because most drivers will take short trips or be doing 45-70+ on the highway and the oil cooling is really only a problem when running through revs and arguably when stopped in traffic on humid days...but there's no air running through cooler stopped in traffic vs the stock method of cooling the oil with the coolant that's always at precise temp. Most days even a small rad with no air will likely be the same or cooler than stock i'd guess, but I'd imagine in warm climates there would be times it could be higher.
....tbh, I would've left the stock one even though I have the 2007 LSD option and thrash it often, but I simply didn't want to deal with another leak there in the future. Will see if I can maybe keep short lines and mount it on engine right in front of trans angled slightly downward once I finish my clutch job. Should be plenty of active cooling but still reach op temps in more reasonable time.
Golf gti?
I wanna take a guess and say you bought a turbo beetle.
Joe DiMarco that came to my mind too !
Do i need to fill up more oil to the system? Since there is more space for the oil?
The oil cooler will take up about 0.7L more than before, so yes to answer your question.
How much you paid for that kit???
If I install the oil cooler do I need a thermostat? I live in Colorado and it's cold here of course
Need? Not really. But if you find it takes too long for the engine oil to warm up, then I would get one. I don't plan on driving my MINI during winter so its a non-issue for me
@@milanmastracci I decided not to install this immediately. I contacted the fellow who makes this equipment and it's a bit pricey, especially if I put a thermostat in the mix. So I'll keep the reference.
Hi! Need one urgent! Where I can get it?
Can you still run the heat exchanger with this kit?
No
That's a negative. You are replacing the heat exchanger with oil cooler adapter, which allows you to run a dedicated oil cooler.
You should have done test run of befor temp and then try and replicate it and do it again after the oil cooler install and see how much it drops temps.
I did a custom air diverter for my ic in my mini and that alone dropped my iat by avg of 15degrees. On the hottest day my car iat is 9 degrees above ambient and only ever spike 20 over on hard long pulls
I would have loved to but a bunch of the car needs to be taken apart to install the kit. I figured with it apart, it would be a good time to install it 👍
How did you learn to do all this stuff? did you go to automotive school?
Hi are you able to post the website link for the oil cooler please as I can’t seem to find the shop. Thanks

milanmastracci thanks mate

What about oil changes? A lot of oil will stay in the rad.
The lines and cooler will occupy nearly 0.7L. Out of the 4.2 litres that will drain, by doing an oil change, you will be effectively changing 86% of the oil. I am okay with that as I don't let my oil get that old anyways. Even when you do a regular oil change, you will be changing out probably 95% of the oil as opposed to the full 100. There will still be some in the head, on the cylinder walls, on the oil pan, etc. Supercars when they do an oil change service, they actually do 2. So they will perform a regular oil change, turn the car on, warm it up, drive around the block and back, and then do another one. So if doing an oil change like here with a cooler that only changes 86% of the oil, by doing it once more, you will be effectively changing 98% of the engine oil. If you do it once more, you will change out 99.7% of the oil. The more you do it, the less effective it is, however the better of a change you will get.
I can’t find the same product
Wow , did I see a made in Canada on the cooler ?
Sure did!! Incredible quality from this kit
Is it a Audi TT?
Audi S3?
Vw golf GTi would be my guess.

it will be a vw polo or a vw golf

No need for thread sealant on AN fittings. The taper does the sealing, not the threads. Only need thread sealant on pipe threads.
Gti golf
Does it interfere with AC condenser?
Not one bit.

Once you remove the fuel pump fuse there is no point to remove any spark plugs or coils. You have taken away its ability to create ignition. Other wise for the turbo setup not bad for a quick guide.
The reason why you remove the spark plugs is so that you don't create compression, which is tough on the bearings if you don't have engine oil circulating through it. Once the oil cooler has been primed of oil, you can then reinstall the spark plugs and fuel pump fuse.
Wow what a great video! Have some car how to content on my channel as well inspired by you! Keep it up greetings Juupke
Thank you! 👍 That's awesome brother. You keep it up as well 🙌
Vw Jetta 1.8T?
Vw New Beetle? 🤔
Or you could of just pulled the relay out from the engine fuse box. Easier way to prime. No spark and no fuel
