I gave a thumbs up because I appreciate that the story is told. But, I must say I always feel guilty about giving a thumbs up when a story is so sad. I am a woman; a mother; with 4 daughters and I am so sad for the 'money woman.' People are so angry in the US about slavery, with NO concept of modern slavery, which happens still, all over the world, for many reasons, both cultural and financial. I pray we all find a better way to feed, clothe and educate our families! 😢
We understood and are aware of the concept of modern slavery, we are also aware of the long-term negative impacts slavery has on the descendants of enslaved people. People in the United States are charged, prosecuted, found guilty and sentenced to prison for enslaving people more than most people realize. In 2019 a South Carolina man was found quilty of enslaving his mentally challenged employee. In 2023 a Florida man was sentenced to prison for enslaving Mexican immigrants. Also in 2023 three members of a Virginia family were sentenced to prison for enslaving a family member, the mother and her two adult sons enslaved a woman who was in an arranged marriage with a fourth family member. Slavery comes in many forms, we need to do better teaching people the signs and how to safely ask if people need help and how to safely alert the proper authorities when they do need help.

I can’t help but think of my great-great grandmother from Puerto Rico. When she was 15, she married a man who was in his 60s. They had 13 kids and only stopped having kids because he died. My great-grandma, born in 1925, was the youngest of the 13. She never got to go to school as a kid, but she went to what was essentially an elementary school for adults when she was older. @@aprilgibson817 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. Isaiah 45:7 Evil exists because of God. If he created everything then both good and evil exists only because of him. When he created the garden of Eden, HE put the tree of good and evil there. HE created the serpent, the devil, who he knew would rebel. Why did he do any of this? Why give his creation, which was originally good and free of corruption, the opportunity to bring death and every evil suffering into this world? It's actually quite perplexing considering the amount of suffering people face in this life. Also, God allowed things like polygamy in the bible. When a man can have more then one woman, how do we not expect women to then be treated like slaves and like property? Men, through their lust, desire women of all kinds of variety, which is why you see men in the bible who had 10, 15, 20, 100 women at any given time. God outright says murder is wrong, "thou shalt not kill", but then allows a practice like that, which quite naturally leads to the objectification and mistreatment of women.
@@aprilgibson817 Because no everybody believes in God and there are a lot of loopholes in logic for religion. I also feel that there are many things that don't make sense. I chalk it up to that being the reason it's called faith. Men only claim this is a tradition because they benefit from it. As usual, history is written by those in charge. We are just hearing these women. I hope these women are safe.
This was the practice of many Igbo cultures before they became Christians. The worst part is that the men maybe old enough to be a great-grand fathers.I went to elementary school with a boy from such relation. The old man whom I thought was his grant father was actually his father who married his mother by exchanging her for livestock.
This is very wrong. While one or two cases like this happened, it has never been a culture anywhere in Igboland. What you should also know is that through medieval times, even in the West, women have been married off for several weird and sometimes stupid reasons, traded off as commodities of convenience to suit the families, even as children. But though terrible, those practices were not like this cos the girls were properly married and had wife status. They weren't this horrible. And the practice has since stopped with civilisation. So you're very wrong in your statement. Kindly read history.
This is one of the most genuine anthropological journeys I have seen. You went in to learn, not condemn. I know a lot of comments are talking about drawing a line, but recognizing that this tradition came from ancient beliefs and systems (as you said) is extremely important. We can respect that this is cultural while simultaneously condemning the practice. Seeing how education is paying off and changing the community within just one generation is fantastic.
Education is so empowering for any community, but especially for women and girls. We cannot let tradition be an excuse for practices that are hurting people, and we cannot let those practices taint the beauty of unique cultures.

This is womb slavery, 'Book , auction and purchase a womb before it is manufactured'.i.e. 'Buy a female body as a baby producing machine before she is born'
Roots of developed human settlements
The settlement only in humans where 'Females ' were restricted as 'Slaves' to only 'Womb trade', with no right to food, water, shelter , survival independantly or dignity.
Womb slavery is different in different places. Some 'Sell baby's womb , some teen's, some adult female's womb to a man, some even torture breasts '. But idea remain same

I've been a proud monthly sponsor contributor to Save the Children for nearly 40 years. I am proud to know their work is saving some girls' lives.
Me too. It's beautiful
Thank you ma
This is absolutely horrible. Why are people so evil. My heart breaks for these young girls 😢
This is very cruel. They don't want to talk because they know that they're doing wrong. Lord have mercy! 😢
I like what you said. There is so much evil in the world. So much hurt and pain. When I hear about the evils in the world, I remind myself that, that is why I do what I can, by loving and taking care of those that I can. That is how you spread love, you love those that you can reach. As for the rest, you pray and put them in God’s hands.
I feel the same sometimes depending on the story or what the video is about. I have to tell myself that I'm not liking because I like or support the story or the video, I'm liking it for the creator that posted it to support and thank them for sharing and spreading light on the situation. God knows our heart and know why we are liking the videos. No reason to feel bad or guilty because you know you have good intentions and so does God.
@@ThatGirlJD Wow. I knew there was modern day slavery going on today, but not on that level. I was thinking more so on a corporate level. Thank you for the knowledge and insight. We all need to open our eyes to this evil world we live in and the evil things going on that most of us have no clue about. I just wish there was more we could do!
This is worse than slavery because its main reason is sexual assaulting little girls.
Anyway, seeing as this took place over a century ago and in a rural, underdeveloped territory, I wonder if my great-great grandmother went through the same thing that the women in this video did…
Children don't get married, the are usually forced into marriage, sold yo the highest bidder, promised for family debt or "honor". They don't "get married" on their own free will
Well done! These children truly deserve to be saved.
Saved from what? Growing up?
@@ashleyboyd2764arrange marriages aren’t anything new, that I can agree. However, I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily fair. A person should be able to choose whether or not they want to be married to a person or not. Do you not think it’s sad or odd that a child’s worth is not more than some salt..? That’s not just “growing up”..this is slavery. What’s the difference between selling your child for salt and selling your child for drugs..? Who knows what kind of abuse they could endure as children? Physical or sexual. Just think about it.

This practice was done in Liberia too. My grandmother told me about it. It is shunned now. When she told me, she said "we keep telling families to stop allowing these men to stake claim to your daughter for a little goat or small money." Not in those exact words. Why would your god allow this to happen anyway?
@@deeJT0205if God intervened Everytime human beings chose to give into their fleshly desires none of us would be here.....that was the whole reasoning of the flood as well as the intermingling of spiritual beings and humans. Why would humans do this? Why do we always point the finger at God when he is respectful of our free will?
@@aprilgibson817 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. Isaiah 45:7
Evil exists because of God.
@@aprilgibson817
Because no everybody believes in God and there are a lot of loopholes in logic for religion.
I also feel that there are many things that don't make sense. I chalk it up to that being the reason it's called faith.
I'm not religious by any means, and while I believe anyone should have any faith they please, it still rubs me the wrong way when people assume everyone sees things from their point of view or believes in the same things.
This guy is really good I pray God continue to bless him

This is a great story and at the same time It’s sad to hear that these things are still happening in the world.❤
Men only claim this is a tradition because they benefit from it.
Seeing how education is paying off and changing the community within just one generation is fantastic.
but its plain wrong.
I have NO RESPECT for slavery, rape, pedophilia, and oppression 😡
Education is so empowering for any community, but especially for women and girls. We cannot let tradition be an excuse for practices that are hurting people, and we cannot let those practices taint the beauty of unique cultures.
