The keyboard is a Hammond organ and is played by Jon Lord, the best keyboardist in hard rock. Try Smoke On The Water or Child In Time - the first is famous for its riff and original songwriting (the song describes a real fire that happened at a Zappa concert in Montreux), and the second song is an anti-war song with a unique vocal performance (I advise a live performance from 1970 of the year). Deep Purple has a lot of great songs, but these songs are a must for beginners.
This song was born on a tour bus going to Portsmouth UK in 1971, when a reporter asked the band how they wrote songs. To demonstrate, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore grabbed an acoustic guitar and began playing a riff consisting of a single g repeated over and over, while vocalist Ian Gillan improvised lyrics over the top. the song was refined and was performed that same night,
And there’s a live version that was on a video where the lyrics weren’t even finished but they played and Gillan mentions Steve McQueen, Mickey Mouse and all those cats
If you really want to hear what Jon Lord did to the Hammond Organ when he asked a technician to put it through a Marshall amplifier, listen to the studie version of Lazy. But of cource every live version is also fine. Amongst a large number of songs. He wanted to be heard on the stage as Blackmore was getting more gears and instead of the usual Lesley Speakers they made a completely and uncommparable sound the noone really has been created by putting it through the Marshall amplifier. He was way ahead of his time, even on their first hit Hush in 1968.
@@skyscraper7474 made in Japan is my favorite version since the first time I’ve heard it..and it is the definitive version.. but I think they would enjoy the actual visuals of seeing them perform live.
I am #hangovergang but I grew up to Deep Purple. Their album “Made In Japan” has the absolute best versions of the songs they performed live in the early 70’s #hangovergang forever ✌🏽
Jon Lord is playing a Hammond C-3 organ. He calls it "The Beast" when it is played through a Marshall guitar amp instead of the Leslie organ amp. In 1975 Jon bought Christine McVie's organ and played until he retired in 2002. Don Airey played it until it finally died in 2005.

Hello guys. Jon lord is the name of the guy on keyboard unfortunately no longer with us and he was playing the organ. Similar to the organ played in church. Welcome to early british rock! another one by deep purple that will blow your mind is a song called child in time.👍and when you're ready take a look at led zeppelin and black sabbath. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid- seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
I love to watch people react to a song that I've heard I couldn't tell you how many times we used to put this on and just cruise and rock out a few jibbers we were on our way great reaction guys I really enjoyed it keep on rocking keep on experimenting God-bless and keep spreading the music around🎉
Ian Gillan’s masterful rock ‘n’ roll ballads may not have been the universe like excepted by white culture in the 1970s but it’s encouraging to see how much it’s embraced by black culture in the 21st century
That is a Hammond B3 and yes there are electric pianos The bar is officially called a Tremolo bar, most people call it a whammy bar, some people call it a Sissy bar. First time seeing you, HI, try the studio version of Child in Time it WILL blow your mind also the studio version of LAZY is just too much fun.
Linda reacción!! Deep Purple 💜 los más grandes de la llamada Trinidad Impía junto a Led Zeppelin y Black Sabbath, padres del metal!! I love you ❤ 💜💜💜💜💜
this is Deep Purple mark II (1969-1973): ritchie blackmore- guitar ian gillan- vocals ian paice- drums roger glover- bass jon lord- keyboards then in 1974 Ian Gillan is replaced by David Coverdale AND then in 1975 Blackmore leaves the band, and creates another called 'Blackmore's Rainbow', with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. nice reaction guys!
Check out Organ master Jon Lord here on “ Lazy” by Deep Purple. These guys grew up studying classical and jazz. And they worshipped African American blues artists.
Very glad you liked this :) I have to point out that what you heard was the album version of the song with live footage edited over it. Damn it's still good though :) Peace and Love from Canada eh :) sorry :)
Organ is that instrument; they developed heavy metal Ozzie, led, purple. The God father's of metal bands. No but young bloods in metal ect check out it out. British loved the blues from us and mixed it to there music put there thing. If you don't belive me got the original Vynal . On the B side of your Vynal and they loved the blues inspired them.
Ok, I'm old, but not that old. I did see Deep Purple while Jon Lord was still with us. I'd say, it would be better if you watched either of these live performances. This is live footage of 2 different shows with a poor sync job with the studio recording. The live footage of Child In Time is mind melting.
That's not a piano, it's an organ. Yes, they do have electric pianos, but I think it's more accurate to call them keyboards. Now-a-days the keyboard can sound like just about any instrument from an organ to a piano to a trumpet, etc...
You should check out this newer version of Deep Purple's Highway Star! ua-cam.com/video/VsGw6xqLL7g/v-deo.htmlsi=_YRCFMHO02Tm2qH0 and DAZR's new release, Night Lady ua-cam.com/video/8d13aQ6tkR0/v-deo.htmlsi=gPVjRiqJAq4DewPC
Cant beat old classic rock n roll. This is what I grew up with.
Machine head was my first album when I was a kid.Still love it after all these years.

You have got to add Lazy to that mix especially the Made in Japan version
The only person I would consider an equal to John lord would be Richard wright from pink Floyd
Ian Paice a beast on the drums. Good show of their talents.
John lord the organ player was classically trained.the organ is a Hammond organ and tis song has been responsible for over 2,000,000 speeding tickets😂

Hammond C3 organ through a Marshall 200 watt Major guitar stack. Same set-up as guitarist Ritchie Blackmore used.

Deep Purple Highway star is universally great rock ‘n’ roll everyone could identify with it.
This is the type of song that if you blast it in your car you will get a speeding ticket 🤣
Maybe their best Song ever
I'd lay bets many speeding tickets were earned playing this song
Smoke on the water- Fire in the sky.

The Hammond organ referred to is a model B3 with a Leslie cabinet...which is basically a rotating horn, to help bend the sound. Spread the love😎🇺🇸
No, John Lord did not play through a Leslie rotating speaker. As stated above he played straight through the Marshall amp, which was unique
John Lord also played through a Marshall head and 4x12 cabinet.

It's called a Hammond organ mate😊
The lead guitarist (Ritchie Blackmore) is using a tremelo arm which heightens the pitch.
A tremolo bar does just that it creates a tremolo but mainly rock guitars use it to lower the pitch
the best car song of history along whit red barchetta from rush,,, so cool,,🤘🤘🤘

Not a piano, but a Hammond C3 organ.
The keyboardist knows his Jean Sebastien Bach.
It's a tremolo, or you can call it a whammy bar. Listen to Lazy for som exceptional organ- and guitar playing. It doesn't get much better than that.
5:00 Eight cylinders they’re all mine - replace with 6000 cylinders they’re all mine (6k 2170s) batteries all mine.
Call the whammy bar and DG board is what you would call or be three Hammond Oregon I think it’s a B3
Disclaimer: Listening to this song while driving is NOT recommended!!
