    Hey Pete. Do you think you would ever do a series where we send in our clips good and bad and you break it down what you would do ect

      he he he! I finally have the outfitting in the RMX where I need it, the one thing I didnt like about it was I didnt feel connected to the boat...now that I have that sorted out, I will be able to get a better feel. More videos coming!

      he he! Thanks Halie! I think BR is good people, but most comments do seem to revolve around a duffek stroke. On the eddy in mention, we were trying to fit a 26" wide 9.5' long boat into a 22" wide, 3' long eddy... I also didnt have the heart to mention that Jerry did not do the duffek stroke but a cross-bow bow draw...alas Im still trying to figure out who is doing a stern pry into an eddy! Im not sure I have ever seen that anywhere - I sometimes use a hanging stern draw to carve deep into a big eddy...). A true Duffek stroke brings a paddler all out of the paddler's box anyway and a lot of folks have moved away from those types of maneuvers... ( click here to see a duffek in its true form vimeo.com/212083121 ). I believe BR is confusing the duffek with the similar in concept and now more commonly used bow draw (literally the second half of almost every eddy I catch).

      It is a big boat. Not too big and paddles much more nimble than you would think. but it is 9'4" at 86 gallons

    Pete, I value your opinion. When the RMX came out as a replacement for the Remix, I was very bummed. I guess I still am. With it's size and volume, especially up front, it seems to be more suited as a rcreeker than a iver runner. And especially given that it's not offered in comparable sizes to the Remix 59 or 69. (I run the 59. Fits me perfect for my size.) I feel I'm left without a boat now, if I need to get a new one. Most All boats nowadays seem to be edging up in the longer/bigger category. What do you think?

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  Рік тому +2

      Thanks a ton Chesky! The RMX is an amazing boat. One can derive a whole new level of performance out of this boat in comparison to the original Remix. That being said, it does seem to favor a slightly more input focused paddling style. That is often the case with the modern designs. The flip side is that it is a little less beginner friendly in my opinion that the Remix. However, there is not a giant gap in there as you may find in some of the squirrelier designs. That extra volume that it packs is what will allow this boat to take care of a newer paddler in the type of water that a newer paddler will likely be boating in. So it is really a wash in that regard in a lot of ways. I will agree that the extra volume is like the easy button in comparison to a 59. I hear there may be a small size option at 76 gallons? But that may just be rumor mill. I think it would serve them well to release that size. If you are in the remix 59, the RMX 86 will feel huge. Have you tried the ZET 5? It is THE most unappreciated/underrated boat out there right now. Folks that get in one absolutely love them!! They are slalom inspired and similar in DNA to the Liquidlogic heritage of southeastern creekers/river runners (and that is what I love). The 5 is also designed for the smaller to med. paddler. I would give that boat a try and I think you will absolutely fall in love! I literally fell in love with it from the first strokes. It is my favorite boat. The RMX comes in right behind it and would be my top choice in really big water or big water downriver racing. They are both just awesome.

    Zet Fanboy myself, plastic is awesome, I preferred displacement or semi, just my cup of tea, I have tried over 15 plain hull boats, never felt comfortable, and focus more on the boat than the river, which never ended well.

    When I saw you in the Five a few videos back, knowing the hull and your relative size, I said, that's probably the perfect boat for you. Could you say it's like a better, more modern Jefe? I know Wade is calling Zet boats slightly dated based on models of the past 3-4 years, but I sense you like that feel. I think this one is going to be tough for you let go of even with your affinity for LL. Plus Zet outfitting is great.

    • @RiverKingsKayak
      @RiverKingsKayak  Рік тому +1

      For sure! It really is like a more predictable Alpha 75. It carries a lot of speed and actually paddles like it has edges BUT still paddles very well when paddled slowly (which the Alpha did not)...which is perfect for me...a full displacement that paddles like it has edges and can slow down in the steeps and mank without making you pay. The Jefe was an intentionally slow boat as were the creekers of that time. This brings big advantages and some big disadvantages. Control, predictability, maneuverability, time to think and assess, soft landings, easy boofs, landing and not skipping too fast and far to allow set up for the next drop, sliding over rocks like a wet salamander... These were what the jefe brought. The down sides were that it surfed horribly, took lots of effort to ferry in strong current, required strength to get up to speed, did not skip over holes, did not carry speed or carve into features and was difficult to get out of holes. All of kayak design is a study in compromises. Modern edgy boats do everything that a jefe does not, but aren't nearly as good on rocks, etc...The ZET 5 has found that balance between design features to suit my preferences better than any other creeker I have paddled. Some of the older ZET designs are "dated." The ZET designer, however, is slightly resistant to go the route of the current trends as he feels it takes away some performance as well as does too much work for the paddler which actually end results with a less developed paddler. The 5's overall design did not "look" impressive when I looked it over (the color way and deck styling do look amazing) but when you get on the water in it, it is magic. Where the RMX is clearly better is staying dry on the bow, big water handling, ability to engage and work those edges and surfing/hole escape. I have just now achieved a perfect outfitting fit for me in the RMX, which was keeping me from gelling with the boat. I am very much looking forward to unlocking this boat. When you hit that sweet spot with the RMX, it drops the best line you've ever had. I just need to figure out how to stay in that sweet spot. If I was a better paddler, that would come more quickly. I just need more time to gel with it. And yes, the ZET 5 is not going anywhere!!! LOL. Love the outfitting too!

      @@RiverKingsKayak appreciate the thoughts, makes sense all around. Hopefully you just wrote half of the script to the part 2, "conclusion video" to this one. You just need to explore that RMX a touch more I guess. The one opinion I got on the RMX was from some one that had been paddling a Nirvana, but wasn't crazy about the Scorch. He thought the RMX was the sweet spot of compromises with regard to the hull performance; but in the context of someone running the upper yough and similar MD/WV runs -- i.e. rivers that have technical moves and creeky aspects, but not SE mank-fests.

    Did you ever have to make up your mind?
    And pick up on one and leave the other behind?
    It's not often easy and not often kind.
    Did you ever have to make up your mind?
    Did you ever have to finally decide?
    And say yes to one and let the other one ride?
    There's so many changes and tears you must hide.
    Did you ever have to finally decide?
    Better go home, son, and make up your mind.
