Too right it did! This late 80s classic DEFINITELY deserved to go much higher up the UK singles charts than a miserly No20. It should've easily went straight into the Top 10 at the very least.
Love this song and was my first time I really heard the style council ,was on now 10 still have on vinyl lol but then brought all the albums of weller from that day on even thought remember uncle having snap from the jam a loved
No, it's NOT "Style Council," Dave Lee Travis! With ur appropriately rolled-up sleeves?! They were called "THE Style Council!" I'm pleased u corrected urself @the end!
Paul Powell. He’s the legendary Mr “X” to Jamiroquai fans - he played the amazing bass line on the “album” version of Space Cowboy as recently revealed by Stuart Zender.
@@paulhalpin6301 No. Musicians and songwriters can actually often be inspired to write songs about all sorts of things and situations. So it doesn't necessarily have to be autobiographical at all, as it could just as easily be about someone Weller knew or something he had either saw, heard or read about and it gave him the idea for the song. On the other hand, it could also just purely be an interesting fictional story that he made up on the spot. That's how it works with most songwriters.
Deserved to be a bigger hit.

Weller 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Remember being in army when this released. One of my favourites
Dee Cee Lee is absolutely drop dead gorgeous
Really underrated classic! You really don't hear this too much on UK radio, but it gets regular airing on MTV 80s in Germany.
TSC on TOTP, always a bizarre affair, two different planets collide, funkin tune, once again
I'll never get tired of this song! Paul Weller forever :)
Judging by the lyrics of the song, Mr. Weller was very much in love back then!
One of my favorites from the Council!
I love the contempt which Weller shows toward TOTP with his miming. Lol.
My all time favourite single from them.
my favourite s/c tune..a guy finding his true love😚
Just a brilliant tune .
Brings back a lot of memories of being 18. Saw them on tour promoting this in November 1987 at the Hammersmith Odeom. Happy Day's.
I saw them at Crawley leisure centre on the same tour.
He said "This is our new single" and they played this.
I think it was their best single.
@davidmcque627 Yes I couldn't agree with you more, as 'Wanted' is undoubtedly my all time favourite TSC single, too.
Fantastic song

What a tune.
How can anyone 'dislike' this,?!
true..must be an accidental slip of the fingers to dislike this 👌😂
Coz Weller's got his jumper tucked into his trousers and he should know better?

Paul never sang better than during these TSC days.

Wasn’t too sure about the guy but that’s definitely the last straw for me
It was Steve Wright
And he is called Steve Wright .....glass houses an' all tha'
Sophisti-pop at it's finest, though I'd argue Scritti Politti's songs Absolute and Wood Beez comes at a close second. Lol
I thought "Provision" was Scritti's best album. Lovesick is just so damn good.
Fab
Sick bass.
There's a girl in my office... x
who is very much in a relationship... sigh x
and she's blonde x
who's the bass player?
Paul Powell. He’s the legendary Mr “X” to Jamiroquai fans - he played the amazing bass line on the “album” version of Space Cowboy as recently revealed by Stuart Zender.
Is that DC Lee?
Yep
Yes
Hahaha, COURSE! She was Weller's wife mate. They have two kids together!
I knew the man
F lost touch , don't get him no more fan 4over 40years????
@@grantbarclay7132 i was 19 when this track came along.
Which public toilet was THAT, THEN!! FOCKIN rockin' tune tho? He's never "worked in an office" in his life! Neither have I. Musicians just... don't
