"敵は幾万 Teki wa ikuman" is a Meiji era Japanses military song composed by Sakunosuke Koyama in 1891, and its lyrics were written by Yamada Bimyō in 1886. Translation is in both English (middle) and Chinese (bottom)

It seems that majority of japanese military songs combine the most upbeat music with texts about dying for the country and emperor. I wonder what was phycology of an ordinary soldier from peasants if he could sincerely sing such songs knowing that he is not from samurai dynasty.

In the Meiji era (after 1868), the Japanese army is organized alone Western lines with conscript soldiers. So the samurai is just a imagery. Most of the soldiers were not of samurai descents.
