None of the eels panic when they see the net and they don't swim around fast. The only issue is finding a net that can hold their weight. I always net them head first so they won't try to slither out.
I agree as you can tell he is a very decent caring person towards these beautiful creatures. Just wish more people were like him and treated animals with respect and decency.

Thanks! It was a pain to get the pots out as they are at least 90 pounds each and the tank is so tall. Putting the pipes in was much easier as each level of pipes is it's separate unit so I just needed to stack them.

It depends on their behavior. Some morays will start to become more aggressive once they've reached 4 feet. If everyone continues to get along and fits in this new pipe system when fully grown I may be able to keep them all.
WOW that looks so cool!!! thats a great idea for them eels! looking at it the only thing i wonder is how much swimming room do they have? i know they don't swim a lot but i would still want to give lots of room to swim and also add other fish. for me i would add corals all over that pipe i would put star fish crabs and anything that would naturally live in that area just to complete the dream. you should put sand on the bottom. i really like this set up you just might be able to put some stuff together and make some money off this as i have not seen anybody else do this great idea.
Thanks for the kind words! Swimming room should be ok as the eels are used to snake around obstacles. The sharks mainly stay at the bottom and all other fish are small enough to swim around freely. They use the pipes for cover as well. Crabs would get eaten by the Zebra moray. I may think about covering the pipes with something in the future but not sure what 🤔

The eels don't bother the lobster. I actually bought 2 more a few days ago as they are social animals and often wander in large groups in the wild. They are just a little bit bigger than the cleaner shrimp so I have to keep the Zebra moray fed until they are too large for him to be potential snacks.
Do you have any plans to fill the bottom with sand and plant sand stars, waterweed, sea cucumbers or sand dollar sea urchin? Would you try to plant a small montipora on the pipe (its upper part) where moray eels live? Thanks in advance for your answer.
Wow always love watching your videos, you really do take great care of those eels. You should get a yellow edged moray for that tank I saw one at my local fish store the other day and it was beautiful heard they get big too.

Would you like to try planting encrusting montipores or just montiporas on the top of the moray eel house? After all, montiporas are very tenacious and are not picky about water parameters.
Maybe you should try to look for Strophidon sathete, the giant slender moray. It’s the longest moray reaching 12ft. It’s rarely reported in captivity so it would be awesome if you could acquire one! I remember I saw one 2-3 years ago and it was so so beautiful. Cheers
Good idea but unfortunately, the sharks are nocturnal and would kick over and move around any rocks. That's why I can't setup a cave for my blue spiny lobster 😭

The problem is that the Morays and sharks are so massive that nothing would stick to the bottom for any long time. If I attach algae to the pipes and it gets dislodged it can clog up the overflow box. Maybe I can find a saltwater version of Java moss.
You should give them a natural looking tank at some point. It’ll have them more stimulated. Remember for us it’s A cool tank but for them it’s no different than jail. That’s the main reason I say do natural set ups

One question to brother. Have you had an issues with any eels kinda being on a hunger strike? I’ve had my guy almost over a year now never had an issue at all with feeding lately he’s been more picky the. Usual. He acts normal and hasn’t changed behaviors and even comes out of pipes when’s he’s hungry. He’s been refusing silvers and tilapia/ fresh flounder I would alternate for him. I used to do large fresh shrimps once in a while but he rarely ever liked those from the start and I know they aren’t the best vitamins wise. I started looking around Japanese’s markets as I’ve heard from you and other experts and the only thing I’ve tried that he will take no matter what is these giant sardines that are frozen they look like giant silvers he absolutely loves them and takes them every time I do cut them in half bc he choked on one and spit it out but haven’t had an issue since then. I do salmon which he likes it’s just hit or miss sometimes he spits that up and the water change is awful with that stuff. As well as squid but usually he only had a few pieces then refuses the rest. I do soak all my foods in garlic and other vitachem minerals. Just wanted to know if you have any other ideas of maybe what I can try feeding? Thanks
This happens to me as well with pretty much all my eels. They suddenly don't want to eat something they used to love and then I gotta find something else real quick before they get too hungry. If you don't have any vulnerable tank mates you can just wait until he starts to take the food again. You can raise the temperature slightly to increase his metabolism and make him hungry. You can also try to not soak the food in garlic and see if he prefers the natural scent of the food. My Dragon Moray sometimes doesn't take the garlic fish but would eat the same fish that is just plain.
Beautiful setup! Just moved my tessalata eel to my 210 gallons he's doing so much better! I wonder if they are really almost blind since he always comes out whenever i get close to the tank thinking i would feed him😅 but the weird thing i found is before he used to eat like every 4 to 5 days but ever since i added activated carbon he started eating more but i dont know exactly since i also started adding algae wafers in whatever he eats aswell as multivitamins so they mightve played a role aswell now he eats every 1 or 2 days maybe its a growth spurt i also thought of getting a green moray since they look so cool hope they get together well, thanks for your help from last time😊
Thanks for watching! I don't know the current size of your Tessy but I would not add a Green Moray as they grow faster than most eels and a 210g tank will quickly become too small. When eels start to feel cramped you will get issues with aggression. Regarding carbon filtration: Moray eels have a toxic mucus slime coat that protects them from parasites. It is generally not toxic to themselves but in an enclosed aquarium and if water changes aren't performed frequently enough, the concentration of these toxins can start to rise and have a harmful effect on the eel. It is possible that since the carbon removed the toxins the eel is happier/less stressed and therefore, started to eat more. I run carbon to filter the toxins out as well so it won't affect the other fish such as the sharks and the inverts.

Hello, i wanted to ask if theres a proper way to introduce eels together because i dropped in a fine spotted moray (gymnothorax dovii) he was quite smaller than my tess so thats why i think my tess bit him i wouldnt have removed him if my tess didnt bit him My tess is 30 inches and my gymnothorax dovii (fine spotted moray) is about 18 to 20 inches as he was swimming around the tank my tessalata suddenly came out of the rocks and bit his tail Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated or should I add a pipe system? Because my tank currently is just filled with rocks and so the eel might've just made that his whole territory unless i add a pipe system but that's what I think and I wanted to hear it from you
If you have an established eel and want to add a second one that is also smaller then the best way to do that would be to remove both eels and rescape the whole tank so both eels will have to settle into their new home. They will likely go on a hunger strike until they are fully settled in but that's normal. I would make sure that the tank is large enough for both eels to have their own designated areas when they don't feel like hanging around with one another. When it comes time to feeding it may also be better to use feeding tongs and feed each eel individually to avoid aggression. Adding a cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrasses will also greatly reduce aggression. If you still end up with problems, check if any of your tank mates is stressing out the eels which in turn causes them to be aggressive towards each other.

I have already added one cleaner wrasse and he seems to be doing great especially with my tessalata, i have bought 4 inch pipes to put in my 210 gallon aquarium it may be a bit too big for a 210 gallon aquarium but it's an investment incase i upgrade the tank my gymnothorax dovii seems to have fully healed and I will try again after i install the pipe system currently my gymnothorax dovii is in another tank 40gallons so I hope it will all go well and yes I think my tessalata eel is fully established it might be because of the lack of rocks and he's aggressive towards other eels

Time to go wish my eels a happy new year by giving them a whole mackerel haha, My tank size is 4 ft length 32inch width and 30 inch height so I wont be able to make the pipes too long but I will definitely add some floors on to the pipes and aswell as a lot of openings for the eels to come out from I will remove the tessalata first from the tank and do all the rescaping after that I will add the smaller eel first so that he may become established after that I will add the tess in the last Accord please tell me what you think but you have helped me enough so thanks a lot (my pipe system will be done tomorrow) I will make sure to tell you how it goes if you don't mind😅 You inspire me to get a tank as big as yours and keep multiple eels together (rip my wallet) haha

I think growing some coraline algae in the pvc could really help hideing the ugly white PVC. making it look more natural and less artificial. I'm not opting for coral itself. just the pink/purlple coraline layer.
They don't like the pots because the opening is too big and the eels have to be coiled while in them, they prefer to have their body some what linear for sudden burst movement, it makes them feel safer instinctively when they have mauverbility I really like the live algae mat, if you don't like brown algae, considering using rhinoplasty on the surface of pve and seeding green algae species for a bright green appearance

I use heavy duty ones since they had to be 36 inches liong to be long enough to wrap around the connectors with some wiggle room.

I had removed all sand a couple videos back because it was too much of a dirt trap. I may look into it again and possibly add some stingrays.

I would make sure that the tank is large enough for both eels to have their own designated areas when they don't feel like hanging around with one another. When it comes time to feeding it may also be better to use feeding tongs and feed each eel individually to avoid aggression. Adding a cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrasses will also greatly reduce aggression. If you still end up with problems, check if any of your tank mates is stressing out the eels which in turn causes them to be aggressive towards each other.

I have already added one cleaner wrasse and he seems to be doing great especially with my tessalata, i have bought 4 inch pipes to put in my 210 gallon aquarium it may be a bit too big for a 210 gallon aquarium but it's an investment incase i upgrade the tank my gymnothorax dovii seems to have fully healed and I will try again after i install the pipe system currently my gymnothorax dovii is in another tank 40gallons so I hope it will all go well and yes I think my tessalata eel is fully established it might be because of the lack of rocks and he's aggressive towards other eels
Check out how I scaped my 270g with a 4" pipe for a bigger eel and lots of rocks openings around the pipes for a second smaller eels. Back then I thought I would have to add my Tessy to my small Banana eels.

Time to go wish my eels a happy new year by giving them a whole mackerel haha, My tank size is 4 ft length 32inch width and 30 inch height so I wont be able to make the pipes too long but I will definitely add some floors on to the pipes and aswell as a lot of openings for the eels to come out from
I will remove the tessalata first from the tank and do all the rescaping after that I will add the smaller eel first so that he may become established after that I will add the tess in the last Accord please tell me what you think but you have helped me enough so thanks a lot (my pipe system will be done tomorrow) I will make sure to tell you how it goes if you don't mind😅

@@fishdiaryUpdate, put the pipe system in took the Tessy out and put in the fine spotted moray (didn't work out as they were facing eachother again the Tessy tried to bite him) I guess my Tessy is just too aggressive but my fine spotted moray might just be too small or not the right eel (i don't know if I should try with another bigger eel since I don't want a blood bath) but still thanks so much for helping! I hope the pipe system isn't a waste and that I will be able to add a eel which can match my tess's size and aggression

Not enough room as the pots get narrower towards the bottom.
I think growing some coraline algae in the pvc could really help hideing the ugly white PVC. making it look more natural and less artificial. I'm not opting for coral itself. just the pink/purlple coraline layer.

They don't like the pots because the opening is too big and the eels have to be coiled while in them, they prefer to have their body some what linear for sudden burst movement, it makes them feel safer instinctively when they have mauverbility
I really like the live algae mat, if you don't like brown algae, considering using rhinoplasty on the surface of pve and seeding green algae species for a bright green appearance
Thanks for the tip! I have to check if my current lights have the proper spectrum to support plant growth as I only bought them to just lighten up the tank.
