Just got the 45Aamp Avian and put in my Timber X. Absolutely amazing ESC ! Maybe it is in my head but the power for sure feels way more responsive and true and now the ability to update firmware with bug fixes and new features is just a joy to have. Really loving all the spektrum inventions !
I've been waiting for this since I got my first smart ESC for my Conscendo Adv, along with an AR637T. It was worth the wait. I can think of a lot of planes that could really use a little reversing every now and then. Thanks Tom, very cool!
Thanks for the vid! I was going crazy trying to get one of the servo leads to interface to the programming box - never would have thought to plug into the fan connector!
Is there a part number for that Y-cable adapter (~3:45) you used to ease access to the programmer port? That would be very helpful w/ my over-sized fingers. You sure had better luck getting the lead to stay put in the programmer, mine doesn't want to play nice and keeps disconnecting when I let go of it.
HI Tom, question about reusing the Avian ESC out a eflite mustang? I put that esc in a Align Trex 550 and it does fly with it but I can't get my NX8 to open the Avian Prog menu. Is that because this esc came out of a BNF plane? And it's locked like most BNF's rx's are? I've got 6 heli's with the Avian ESC's and 6250's and they all allow the Avian prog menu to come up. I have reprogrammed the esc with the V2 ESC programmer box because my TX didn't offer the Av Prog menu. So is the issue the fact that it came form a BNF? I didn't think you could or would have to -- JAIL BREAK -- and esc!!! Opinion's please.
Is there any way of connecting the Smart ESC directly to the computer without the ESC programming box? I would rather avoid spending another $30 to get the programming box when I can program the ESC directly from the transmitter, which works great. I do want to check firmware levels in the four Smart ESC’s that I currently own and again prefer not to have to buy the box.
Are there plans to change this? It seems weird to need the ESC programming box to get the firmware update on the ESC in order to eliminate the box and replace it with identical radio controls in the Avian Prog menu. Could the USB programming cable be used in place of the ESC programming box?
@@kellymcbride7034 I completely agree with you, I want to update the firmware but don’t want to buy that ridiculous box just for firmware updates when I can use my NX10 to program my ESC’s. Good ol’ Horizon.
What does it mean when you are trying to update your firma 150a ESC and there are no available options and all the others are grayed out? Help please 🙏😢
It's pretty insane you have to buy another box that would likely get used once when you should be able to use that cable if you have it, or your transmitter, or an adaptor directly to your pc. Doesn't seem like a very renewable practice, basically just creating heaps of extra ewaste for no reason except profit.

Tom, when I try to update the firmware in my Avian 80amp esc, it doesn't give me any firmware versions to download in the "Available Versions" dropdown. Could this be because I already have the latest firmware? It says I have Firmware Version 04.0.08
Hi Calvin, Make sure you have downloaded the latest esc firmware from this link - www.horizonhobby.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-horizon-master/default/dw036c80f0/Manuals/Spektrum-SmartLink-ESC-Update-and-Programming-Instructions.pdf FYI the update files are patched with each new version of the app so if you have a older version of the app already installed then it wont have the latest firmware. the latest version for that esc is 4.0.12. Another thing I would verify is that you are using a Smart compatible receiver?
just bought a 60 amp Avian air esc, plugged it into a smart 3s and magic smoke came out of it..sent it back, waiting on a replacement. why would that happen, I've never had an an esc go up in smoke, that one was a first.

Having trouble got a v1200 when I get off of full throttle the motor makes a clicking noise then when I give it throttle again it sounds like something is grinding or vibrating for a second also hesitates. Then flys fine. I did add reverse thust to it. Not sure if that has something to do with it?

where is the firmware to update the escs
