UAFX Golden Reverberator - The Greatest Reverb Pedal Ever!

- In today's video, I look at the UAFX Golden Reverberator. This is the first video in the series where I look at the fantastic range of pedals from Universal Audio. Spoiler alert this is, without doubt, the greatest reverb pedal ever created!
The gear ill be using is a Fender Pro Strat going into a Boss IR-200 into the UAFX Golden Reverberator.
Harnessing more than 20 years of reverb modeling expertise, UAFX Golden Reverberator puts a trio of iconic reverbs right at your feet. The tube-driven spring reverb of classic ’60s guitar amps. The dense and haunting sound of ’50s studio plate reverbs. The endless algorithmic wonder of early digital reverb hardware.
Built upon powerful UAFX dual‑engine processing and unprecedented levels of sonic authenticity, Golden Reverberator is a flagship, no‑compromise reverb unit, built to inspire you for decades.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

I really appreciate you didn't end your video title with a question mark... Greatest reverb ever?
This!!
I got one a few months ago. It’s the best sounding reverb I’ve ever tried.
Same here
@@moltkebaby I third said statement. I built my first proper board and tried most of the reverbs, the strymon stuff sounded too digital and modern, the UA is just lovely.
Same here! I haven't taken it out of my chain since it arrived.
Reverb pedal*
I have one and I absolutely love it. Incredible sounds.
My rig is a Boss IR200 and this reverb. Thank you for the videos that help me realize my sound concept!
Mine just arrived today partially based on this vid... Wow Paul, you are sooooo right. This is an unbelievably great sounding reverb, by far the best I've ever heard!
Sick playing with the introduction. Thanks for sharing!
I just got one, your review convinced me. Sounds lush and beautiful.
Me too! Do you love it?
This is by far the best demo you can clearly display the sound quality perfectly. I’m baffled by other reviewers that don’t understand that the different decay times being the mid bass and treble
no one mentions that. Everyone just assumes it’s an eq. Looks like you missed that as well.
Literally just bought this. Already the best reverb pedal I've ever played.
Me too! it makes all my other pedals sound so much better.
Of all the videos I have seen and heard you play, this IS the best reverb sound, I can onşu imagine how it sounds in the room. By the way, what a Strat that is and bubbly and singing legatos.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👋🏼
I got one a while back, and it represented a pretty clear advantage over the reverbs in my Kemper. Sweet pedal. Your review, though, is a reminder that i need to re-read the manual and experiment more. I tend to leave the settings as they are and only switch between hall and spring.
Excellent tasty playing. I've been through some reviews where I realize just about anyone can have a channel regardless of talent level. This player is very very good. What a great demo! You have a new subscriber. 👍
Paul delivers some of the best tones on YT and the tone at 4:30 is stunning!, its one of the reasons I got this pedal. Thanks Paul my entire sound has gone to a whole new level.
Nice one, I’m glad you’ve got something out of it.
@@TheStudioRatshey Paul, i really like the intro tune , is it one of your original ideas or something else?
Thank you and greetings from germany
Best Reverb I've ever owned, hands down!
Love the strat tone man! Great demo as well
Thanks a ton
Just found your channel. Excellent work. Subscribed!
The 224 plate can also go forever versus the plate that you get with the pedal. No one has displayed this yet for some reason which is huge for Ambient players .
Oh i just got this too.
It definitely pair nicely with my iridium and sy1000
Great video. Subbed! I absolutely love the Astra and Starlight. The G.R. is next on my list. The first two sound so incredible that I’ve actually considered selling my real Ep-3, MXR flanger-doubler rack and vintage DMM.
theyre great i agree but only sell those if you really NEED the money! just my 2 cents but ive regretted a few sales in the past and id love to own all 3 of what you mentioned! in fact, i changed my mind.. sell them.. to me! 😆
Your review nailed it.
I’d started looking at this for the spring reverb, but the plate is awesome… more flipping money!
I got the 1st batch and it continues to amaze me! Adding this onto my Helix takes the FX lines to another world!
I bought it.
The sound is absolutely stellar (and also very natural).
It was the best reverb i ever heard since/together with my 7ender Dual Showman Reverb. (Plate is also just fantastic!).
Only one problem:
It sounded SO good that i didn't listen to what i was playin', just listened to the effect all the time, literally bathing in it...
I SENT IT BACK, because it was too good!
Does that make any sense to anyone?
As i hear it again now, hidden tears...anyway:
My HOF 1 worked quite good, but not good enough, not that super-fine reverb-texture of the bigger ones (Neunaber, Strymon, Meris...).
So finally, i ordered a Ventris Dual Reverb.
When i can dial out the subtle modulation in the reverb settings, i think i will be happy with it; if not...give the GR another chance...?
The problem is, you can only save ONE preset...
Ventris arrives tomorrow, and i'll surely see/hear if it fits to my equipment/soul...
Oh man I love the sounds so much! Oh man I dislike the price so much! :D
Sounds great.
I'd like to think the reason that strat never sounded like that for me was because I don't have that pedal...but I suspect your great playing has something to do with it!
I hope you're enjoying it even half as much as I'm loving the PRS Studio.
Already own the Starlight and Astra. Santa might have to make his rounds a bit earlier this year and complete the triple threat 👌
Great tone! Was looking at either the Flint or Hydra until I saw this demo.
Check out the UA DelVerb as well.
@@TheStudioRats I watched your review on that pedal. Really cool. I have a few delays but really want a dedicated reverb.
Best Plate Reverb Pedal so far.
I ended up picking up all 3 Uafx pedals for my studio. They sound the best to my ears and will replace my Strymon stuff, at least for studio use anyway.
Strymons stuff sounds more digital and modern, good for certain and bad for others. I prefer the UA reverbover the strymon reverb because I like the vintage sounds better and the UA nails them. The deco is a great pedal to pair with the golden reverberator though.
@@drdre4397 A match made in heaven and a recording Swiss Army knife.
I’d love to hear the PRS Narrowfield pickup though that Reverb pedal.
Paul, i've gone off reverb i've had at least 20 years worth in this video. my fender deluxe doesn't go past 2 and thats enough for me at least : )
Спасибо! Хороше исполнение и звук. Здоровья тебе, мужик. From Russia with love
That’s a huge endorsement paul
Nice review- just oredred mine! What was this run? Do you have the tab or description? I want to try it with the new pedal too? 4:35 I agree, it and YOUR playing sound "ridiculously good."
I own all 3, have the exact same settings on the hall options but mine sounds waaayyy less ambient somehow. Any explanations why?
This sounds great but I would put the ILLUMINE Reverb ahead of this one even though its a great reverb. The ILLUMINE Reverb is a must have effect. It does delay and reverbs to perfection. You really should review this reverb pedal I'm betting you will agree.
Love mine.
Nice. Would there be much point in getting this when I already have a Headrush pedalboard?
Great review! How does it compare to the Chase Bliss CMX 1978 in your opinion?
This is cleaner & more transparent
great video !!! How is the 'tone sucking' if you would connect a tube amp - torpedo cab - the 3 UA pedals vs Dry Amp - Torpedo Cab ? Would love to know before getting into these 3 pedals :)
Analog dry though should eliminate that but there is one review on Sweet water that had that issue. Did you ever get one?
@@shckltnebay No I did try the Strymon Big Sky but its possibilities and sound could not beat my Fractal Audio Axe FX III , so I am staying with my Tube Amp through the Fractal Audio instead of Tube Amp going through 3 analog pedals after the Amp and a bunch of pedals before the Amp...the analog path of pedals does not outweigh the routing possibilities and connection possibilities I get from my Axe FX, with a little digital 'touch' for me :)
How would this sound with an acoustic guitar? I’d like to get a reverb which can work on both my acoustic and electric boards.
Beautiful!!! Können Sie mir sagen, welche Seiten Sie an Ihrer Gitarre 🎸 haben? Many Thanks! Sergio
do you ever tried to compare with bigsky ? with the price range in my country they absolutely almost the same. thank you
Hey Paul. How do you rate this against the mxr m300?
Would the reverbarator be an upgrade vica versa the Katana Artist mk2 internal reverbs?
3:30 what is your signal chain
Paul can you tell me why anyone would be buying pedals when the sounds in the katana are so configuarable? Just curious , or anyone let me in on the secret . fti im no studio grade player just a home player .....
I got all 3 , and love em so much ,,,,, have you notice that there is a slight volume drop on the Astra ?
I haven’t
Maybe the best DIGITAL reverb pedal; however, for pure spring reverb, the surfybear pedals are better. To be honest, the spring setting on this pedal sounded a bit average.
I woudn't say average I would say different and very inspiring to my taste, i like to pair it with other reverbs behind...(for me nothing sound average on this pedal even if it's true that Hall kills them all), lexicon verb territory, but that said what can be better for spring reverb than a real spring, as the surfybear has indeed ...surfybear is really cool they all sound slight different but all sounds good (and also top paired with surfyvibe vibrato or surfytrem). My fav of the bunch is the classic one (only for that sound, not the specs ahaha :) Peace.
Chase Bliss CXM 1978
grainy sounding
is it analog dry through?
What is the best compression pedal?
In my opinion the Keeley plus
It’s a travesty that they didn’t give these pedals midi functionality. Could still have been the “what you see is what you get” thing they we’re going for with the added benefit for those that use presets 😂 missed opportunity, but great sounding pedals.
Again. The decay, bass and treble ARE DECAY TIMES
only two presets? Hard pass.
3 days before they released it to the public two UA sound engineers had a discussion and one engineer said to the other "did you add the 50 presets?" And the other sound engineer replied "no, I thought you were going to do that?" Ugh 😫
Not worth for the owners of the UAD plug-ins that were ported to these pedals, unless you want to play live.
*SOUNDS AMAZING!!!! HOWEVER NO MIDI......................SOLID PASS!* thats a studio piece only not for live touring
where from is a distortion sound ?????????
