- This is a detailed guide showing how I personally installed my Pro Products radiant heat panels into my Animal Plastics T8 enclosures and how I placed my temperature probes for my Spyder Robotics Herpstat 2 Thermostat.

Love the coat hanger idea. Instead of zip ties I used heat shrink tubing to hold the probe on the coat hanger. It’s been working great so far and looks a little cleaner

Also curious where you got your glass door locks from. The ones I got from Amazon don’t allow the door to fully shut 😬
So glad it helped! These are from Amazon as well. I had to bend the tab at the end of the lock mechanism that sticks to the glass just slightly to get the door to close all the way while the lock was engaged. If you hit me up on IG or something I can send you a picture of the locks close up.

For our probes in our display cage I keep them closer to the snakes level near their hides on the hot side because when I had them up higher I was getting inaccurate temps where the snake actually spends most of its time. I still need to route and mount our probes a bit better since I left them loose with a little wire hanger so I could adjust it’s placement easier so I was getting accurate temps closer to the substrate where the animals spend all their time, now that we’ve got that figured out I’m going to drill a hole lower and use your zip tie method to hold the probes in their permanent position.
Yeah Tom this was such a work in progress over about a month before I finally ended up with this and I get consistent temps now at the bottom of the cage. Sounds great man.

Just found this video - definitely informative. Cool trick with the hanger, and I may have to try that in my next setup. I had the exact same sort of temp swings in my enclosure. They're 4x2x1.5 and both use a RHP from Pro Heat (Bob is great). I reached out to Dion at Spyder, and he mentioned the same thing - tape it to the exact center of the RHP. I bought heavy duty/all weather gorilla tape and did that. It took a bit of moving the temp setting around, but once I found the sweet spot all was good.

Zip tied my panel up to screen 3 years ago the panel is by far the best panel probe zip tied to branch off a wood piece in enclosure an inch from bottom of enclosure under heat panel runs perfectly with herpstat 6 with the light on ramping and the temperature on ramping and mister plugged all in herpstat with humidity sensor from Spyder robotic works perfectly
Yeah I talked to Bob as well, mine just wouldn’t regulate properly when I had it there. Bob is a great guy.
I'm currently waiting on my 4x2x2 PVC enclosure to arrive along with my ProHeat radiant heat panel as well for my ball python..I have spent hrs and hrs watching videos on probe placment and installation and hands down I found your method to be the best all around...my only question and I guess thought rather on doing it this way and I'm not bashing our talking bad about you and your way at all so please don't take it as such your way is genius juat a thought I have and hopefully you can answer for me..but with the probe being up high in the enclosure and so close to the heat panel will it make for different temps on the bottom of the enclosure because the enclosure won't have the time needed to come up to the correct temps needed on the warm side with the probe so close to the panel it will reach the set temp much much more quickly and then so what its designed to do and shut off thus by not allowing the bottom to come up to desired temperatures...like I said its just a thought and maybe I'm just over thinking this idk...but none the less great job and fantastic video with great information and insight....

Ok. So I use a ceramic heat emitter in one 4x2x2 pvc and a pro products heat panel on my other 4x2x2 pvc. The one with the CHE keeps temps very well. Humidity also not bad. If I spray it on a Monday and get the humidity up to about 85% on the cool side and 65-70% on the warm side (my enclosures have a humidity gradient as well. I didn’t design it that way. Just happened. But I love that) typically Wednesday or Thursday it could use another spray cause it’s getting low. But it’s not even out of range at that pound it’s low 60% and low 80%. Now. The pro products heat panel. Holy crap. I put it in my other enclosure and set everything up started running it and got temps and humidity up to snuff on Sunday. It’s now the following Saturday. The humidity as not dropped. It’s insane. Temps are prefect and heat panel is awesome. So if you need to save some money a CHE (with a safety cage!) will work. Don’t let anyone tell you they don’t work or you can’t keep humidity up. They work fine. The ambient humidity in my house is like 35-45% and I can keep the humidity above 60% in the enclosure with a CHE no problem. Just needs a little spray down every couple days. Which isn’t a big deal to me because your changing the water every day every other day no more than every 3 days. So spray it down move some substrate around clean up or fix whatever they knock over or pile drive through, take the water dish out and clean it and put it back with fresh water boom done. Should be doing that every few days anyway so no big deal to me. But I’ll still choose my heat panel over the CHE if possible. And side note if you use a Pro products heat panel with a herpstat 2 spiderweb thermostat. The plug for the heat panel kind of blocks the prob plug. It still works. You can still use the probe. But it does push on the probe plug. I’m getting ready to swap the plug for one I bought at Lowe’s that will fit better. DO NOT ATTEMPT OF YOU DONT HAVE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SKILLS OR SAFTEY KNOWLEDGE. I really don’t want to hear about or see animals homes or people lost to electrical fires.

Hi I have a boa constrictor my question is the way you have your probe closer to the panel underneath I ask pro products if I can do it the way you did he told me that it was not correct I want to know did you have any issues I live in climate that's cold I live in Colorado

Hey, I saw their recommendation to do it that way but when I saw how much my temps were swinging even having the probe at the bottom of the cage under the heat panel, I couldn’t imagine myself putting the probe that far away. Temps are good, still see a small swing but not enough to be concerning like before. Thanks a lot!

I got Pro Heat panels and they are the only panels I recommend, they are the safest and most well built panels available. The panel they sell you depends on your cage size, material, thickness, your location, as well as the room you plan to keep the cage in. Everything Pro Heat sells is designed and built just for you and your particular needs.

Hey sorry for my delay in responding! I do not use any flex watt with these cages. Using the heat panel I get a warm enough basking spot for them as it is, and the cold side of their cage still gets cool enough for them to escape the heat. They have a nice gradient from around 90 degrees down to around 75.

I just got my pro products heat panel installed... I used the same sized bit you did for the cord and was able to snugly run the probe cord through the same hole and tried having it very close to the rhp, only problem is my pvc enclosure is 8×4×4 and set to 90 lowered the temp of the rhp to 90 and my boa is 4 feet lower than that... I now have it lower to where he is and the surface temp on the rhp is like 198 and maybe rising to try to achieve the 90 degrees 4 feet below the panel where he is. Like I said this all happened within like the last few hours and I'm making adjustments. This is all a bit confusing at the moment and I'm trying to stay awake as long as possible to keep checking the temp of the rhp. It's about 80 where he is under the panel. Do you know how hot a heat panel will get 4 feet above with the therm temp set to 90? And is it safe for my pro heat panel to get this hot way up there to achieve 90 where he is? I'm gonna try Bob in the am to ask him.

As far as the temps on the surface I’m not actually sure off hand what they should be running with those dimensions etc but yes, I would reach out to Bob like you said. Please let me know what he says if you think about it as I’m very curious to hear myself.
I have the same heat panel and trying to get the temps right is frustrating...what temp did you have to set your thermostat in order to get your hotspot right. My probe is in back left corner of cage. I cant seem get a good gradient and my temp probe is set 5 degrees less than my hotspot.
Mine are set around 88 degrees to keep temps where I want them and I have a great gradient. I see the snakes move around as they like to in order to find the temp they are looking for at that time.
Thanks. But that's incorrect according to the manufacturer. Too close to the panel. Bob: "Placing a probe this close to the panel will cause it to cycle faster than it should and not allow it to reach maximum output performance"
Following Bob's instructions left me with temps over 100 degrees no matter how I adjusted the thermostat so while I understand it may not be the way he says to do things, it's what I found to work so I'll keep it. Thanks.
What were your lead times on your order.... how long did it take to get from the time you purchased to be delivery you?
Hey Stuart, it took about 5 months I want to say on the cages? The heat panels took about a week from the day I ordered until I had them if I remember correctly. The cages would have been here a bit sooner but my order got mixed in with some "production" orders or something, I'm not sure of the specifics but they were honest about it and got them out very quickly once the error was realized.
I'm so behind with so many Videos out there to watch Zak, I'm so proud of you with your progress in putting yourself out there by making videos and also staring a podcast. I can't wait to see what the future holds for you man! Sorry I went off there 😅 😬 Great video Zak with your view on how to set up heat panels.

What is special about pro products vs other rhps?
The way they are constructed is much better than some others on the market but the biggest difference to me was that they were testing each individual panel they were shipping out due to changing to a new supplier for their heating elements. The attention to detail they show with making sure their panels are as safe as humanly possible was what really sold me on them. I have seen pictures of other panels that have melted and nearly caused fires due to poor construction.
Is that a PH 12 panel ? 12"x24"
It is a Pro Heat panel, yes. I actually don’t remember the size, I’ll have to check when I get home and let you know.
@@NavaReptiles I just ordered a PH12 from Bob at pro products they are a month backordered so I wanted to see if u had the same one so I know where the wires are on the panel so I can get the enclosure all ready with drilling the holes. I built my own 4'x2'x20" pvc for around 170$ and I have everything done except the heat panel .. so if u do have the PH 12 can u tell me if the wire is directly in the center on the panel coming out of the side ? Hey Dave, just got home and looked at my paperwork. I have the PH3 75W panels so they are smaller than what you ordered unfortunately. I can tell you that the wire on these comes out directly in the center on the long side yes, but I'm not sure if it will be the same way on those.
