I have a hunch JWP will stay. If Tella comes back and Livremento stays injury free there is the foundation of a team there, Bazunu is good with the distribution. Lyanco and Caleta Car will do well at Championship level, Perraud too. Alcaraz will get goals if they can hang on to him. Saints did pass well from the back in the Prem, it was really scoring goals that was the problem, so I think Russell Martin could suit.

I actually think Southampton probably have the best chance of the relegated teams with Leeds not far behind - I think it's Leicester who may seriously struggle depending on how much their squad gets purged. The main thing for Southampton is not to lose too many of the youngsters in that squad - Lavia will probably go but if they can hold onto the others, keep a few of the more experienced guys, then they should have a good season

he's one of these 'hipster's choice' managers. Delivers nothing more than bang average performances but "plays out from the back" and therefore that makes him "modern" and "progressive". Put him up against a supposed unfashionable coach like Warnock and the old man wipes the floor with him every time. His passing from the back generally results in giving away needless goals, but for some reason this is so en vogue that you're more likely to land a big job playing this kamikaze tactic, regardless of whether you have the managerial chops to implement it properly. He's a complete bluffer. They'd actually be better getting Nathan Jones back, he's at least did something of note in the Championship.

As a soton fan im totaly underwhelmed by the appointment, but our board havnt learnt anything from the dreadful appointment of jones. Russell Martin isnt the figurehead imo that we need atm or to get us back up. If he does, then i will eat my shoes!

Unlike Jones Martin seems like a really good player communicator, look at some of his old MK Dons mic'd up training sessions. If Russell can't get through to the players I don't think anyone could.
@@johnnywilson3071 done nothing with Swansea who got to the play offs under Cooper. They don't have a bad team but they are bang average. Southampton needed a manager who knows and understands how to get teams promoted. Someone whose done it before. Doesn't matter how good someone is at communicating its about the players seeing and believing in the manager. They are a premier league team whose hired a championship manager. Nathan Jones proves it doesn't work. Unless Martin got the play offs and was in a better position but he is not.
