Today J dives into biblical times to discover the inspiration for the story of the four Hogwarts houses in Harry Potter and reveal their true origin. Is the tale of Salazar Slytherin abandoning Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw older than Hogwarts? And where else does it show up? Avatar the Last Airbender? Brave? Narnia? The Bible?

The Four Philosophy Ensemble where one turns against the others is such a common trope. Heck, I'm surprised you didn't even mention it showing up a second time in Harry Potter: The Marauders. James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter; then Peter turns against the other three.
69 likes. I can’t ruin it, but good comment
@jamesmirt3847 got ruined but you have memorialized it 😂😂
When you get bored in church and your mind turns to Harry Potter theories 😂
It would be best to not go to church at all, but not paying attention is acceptable, barely
@@ninjalectualx i thought that you replied to yourself
It happens
@@ninjalectualxI’d question how many truly “pay attention”, it’s all too common to see those who decide to incorporate elements into a religious lifestyle that fits their own narrative.
One of the biggest examples is TONS of folk who do not drink alcohol and claim it is for religious reasons…yet their religion includes a saviour who ensured people had plenty of alcohol to drink.
@@ninjalectualxodd guy
Ravenclaw might make a bit more sense as Daniel himself. Not only was Daniel an exceptionally wise figure, Rowena decided on the location/name of Hogwarts after a dream. Just like what Daniel is doing in this passage
There’s no Slytherin that’s going to make a Ravenclaw the main character in a theory unless it’s about a silly Ravenclaw that “smartened up and switched to Slytherin.” 😂
I imagine Rowena being able to get Godrick and Salizar to stop arguing. Mainly out of her frustrations with them. "WILL YOU TWO SHUT UP!?! I'M TRYING TO READ!!" 😂 Silence the lion and tame the snake
The three musketeers are actually four: Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'artagnan. They all embody completely different ideals, but, oddly, it is the hero D'artagnan who is the most Slytherin-like (with a touch of Ravenclaw). It is a different, but interesting parallel.
Well considering D'artagnan is also the outsider between the other three (the three are more widely known as the musketeers with D'artagnan being more seen as a trainee), so it COULD count
To me is more like Athos is Ravenclaw, Porthos is Hufflepuff, Aramis is the most Slytherin to me, and D'Artagnan is Gryffindor.
Would it be plausible to wonder if Helga made the Basilisk by accident? And then gave it to Salazar as a gift?
I LOVE IT
Would be cool but I don’t see how you can accidentally make a basilisk, unless it was the first one ever.
@@kiweping5 you make a basilisk by hatching a chicken egg under a toad. I don’t see how there’s not hundreds of them made by accident.
Ok, but not knowing a frog sitting on a chicken egg for all that time, long enough for it to hatch, seems maybe unlikely, but cool idea.

J: "More than 1000 years old, it's like Biblically old!"
Me: "So like, 2000 years old?"
lol I thought the same thing
The book of Daniel dates back to around the 6th century BCE, so I guess that’s 2,500+ years old 😂
@@NotAnotherDouc- I mean arguably the subject matter of Genesis goes back to the creation of the universe, but let's not ruin the joke. :P
@@MumboJ Well in Christian Mythology the "universe" is just a few thousands years old.
Actually closer to 2500-3000 years old. Lol
Warrior cats original series started with four clans: Thunderclan, Riverclan, Windclan, and Shadowclan. You can probably guess which clan had all the evil leaders killing cats across the clans.
Omg you’re so right
At least Nightstar was kinda cool? Lol
Warriors... Nice call back! Gives me MAD nostalgia 🥰
I'm just now seeing this and wow that brings a lot of memories thank you for that
The origin of the houses comes from most British schools being split into 4 houses red, blue, yellow and green and the houses are usually named after something. When I was in primary school the 4 houses were Tower (red), Pier (blue), Beach (yellow), Windmill (Green) and when I was at high school the 4 houses were Lune (red), Mersey (blue), Wyre (yellow), Ribble (green). Fun fact, I was put in red house both times and my mum was in blue.
Ah, yes, every American Harry Potter fan's favorite game
Is It Magic Or Is It British?
Whoa, this whole time I thought that was only a Harry Potter thing!
I was green in primary and yellow in academy!
@@torazely We even have a sports day every year where the 4 houses compete against each other and there's a house winner at the end haha! There's no quidditch involved though that part's just magic
Yeah I was pretty happy when I was put in the red house (challenger) because of Harry Potter😂
Can you please make a video on how spells are created? Like how snape just made up spells like sectumsempra?
Seconded 👆
excuse meeeee, edmund was a 9 year old on war times ration of sugar eating a sugary ENCHENTED sweet from a lady he didn't know he was evil incarnated and then spend the rest of his life earning the title of "just" and helping others to not make the same mistakes he did. Also, i have always seen lucy as the bravest (aslan said it himself, if she was braver she would be a lioness) therefore for me she is a gryffindor, not a puff (all the love to the puffs tho)
There you go!
I also don't like Edmund being only named as traitor. That was in one of the three books in which he appears. in the other ones he is quite a good person.
yeah, but for a super quick reference to the trope, it's fine. Though, after finally having read the other books, really Lucy is the most Gryffindor of them all... Edmund might be the Puff, and Susan might actually be the Slytherin since she abandons Narnia for worldly things, kind of ambitious? But we really don't get that much context for it, so it might just be a super Ravenclaw thing for her to just logic her way out of believing in Narnia. And Peter I don't know, he might be a Puff too. I don't think CS Lewis values ambition, so while he might have some characters that do, if they are one of the heroes (like their cousin, whose name I forgot in Voyage of the Dawn Treader) they end up outgrowing that desire. So no one can permanently be placed in Slytherin.
@@ThatOneLadyOverHere his name is Eustace

I FOR ONE DEFINITELY WANT MORE NAME OF THE WIND CONTENT
First, I'd like another fracking book!
A novella came out recently. Could ANYTHING come from that?
Agreed!
Also, I just thought of this while watching, and it probably wasn't done on purpose or anyone knowing, but... Harry Potter is played by a guy named Daniel.
Chronicals of Narnia is heavily influenced by the bible so its not really a coincidence that this parallel exists. You can say that about a lot of literature, I'm sure, but the Narnia series is very well known for its biblical influence.
In a way you could say the 4 hobbits in The Lord of the Rings meet the form. Sam to Gryffindor, Pippin to Hufflepuff, Merry to Ravenclaw and Frodo to Slytherin.
actually blowing my mind that frodo is a slytherin but (as someone who hasn't watched LOTR since i was a kid) was it really him or was it the ring's influence?
@@theblackkirara I'd says Gollum is the Slytherin stand-in and Frodo is the Jesus stand-in.
Big stretch buddy
Bit of a stretch, but works as Frodo does not go the distance. Gollum keeps Frodo from betrayal.
But Slytherin is cunning and abition which non of the hobbits have, thats their whole thing keeping the darkness of the ring away for so long
Sleeping beauty Fairies? 3 good, 1 bad?
Flora = Ravenclaw, Fauna = Hufflepuff, Merryweather = Griffindor, Maleficent = Slytherin, Phillip = Chosen Hero.
Aurora and Phillip chosen hero, she dies and comes back while he slays Maleficent

It is taking time and time and time and a half for him to write that book!!
They don't know the date on which my old school was founded. Its earliest record was 1092 when there was dispute between the masters and the Bishop of Worcester. As such it is generally acknowledged that it is the second oldest school in England.
What school is it called? It seems like really cool piece of history
Royal Grammar School, Worcester
The recurring image/number in the Bible of "Times, time, and half-a-time" or variations of it, is 3.5 years which is half of 7, which in turn is the number of absolute completeness. So "Half of 7 years" typically means "It'll seem like it will be absolute and forever, but it will be cut short"
Thank you for that insight.
As bad as it sounds, Slytherin's hatred of muggles makes a lot of sense for the time, considering Hogwarts and Hogsmead were founded to escape being genocided by the muggles. He probably thought the other three founders had gone completely insane
Honestly, I agree with you halfway. Muggles absolutely did persecute witches and wizards at this time. But not everywhere. There were many regions were this was absolutely not a thing and funnily enough that was especially so, in some catholic regions. The real craze came a bit later and even then there were christian reasons that didn't condone this kind of behavior.
So while I absolutely agree, that he would have been rightfully fearing muggles in some reasons and while it would be natural that if he hailed from such an area, this isn't really Salazars thing. He doesn't fear muggles. He hates them. He knows, if 100 knights on horses charged him, he could kill them woth his want in a matter of seconds (if the killing curse was a thing back then of course).
He basicly had modern attillery power at his side, with spells like bombarda and discendio or even fiend fyre. He saw that power and thought himself superior. And it didn't end there. He hated muggle children, squibs, he hated even magical children that were half muggle or a magical descendand of two muggles.
I fully agree that wizard-kind needed to be protected, which is probably the reason why Slytherin even bothered with Hogwarts. But nothing excuses him hating on people so utterly uninvolved with any of the cruelties. This isn't a man who does brutal things out of fear. He does awful things out of a severe sense of superiority. He is disgusted by magical blood being dilluded. It suggests that maybe he was a noble in the muggle realm or maybe even some sort king. Slytherin was so increadibly salty when he left, that he left a failsafe in place, that could kill innocent kids.
You know, the basilisk wasn't going to kill people in London or in scotland when the chamber is opened. The chamber is there, to kill kids in Hogwarts and maybe 1 muggleborn professor if they happened to have one at the time.
🎉 12:09 🎉
😢😂🎉🎉🎉🎉😂
There was literally a witch that got herself caught over 40 times and just fireproofed herself because she liked the ticklish feeling of the fire while fireproof. It's in one of Harry's text books at the beginning of one of the books. The muggles were no threat and canonically barely actually succeeded at killing real witches or wizards.
In the Lord of the rings, there are four realms: Human, Elven, Dwarvish and Mordor. Mordor goes astray. Gandalf dies and comes back to life. Mordor is defeated.

Heyyyy Brotheeeeer! So, since you guys made so many theories, you should do a video “Best Theories we created!” Doing a top 10 or something like that for your favorites theories!

How about the 4 "races" of middle earth: the kingdom of man, the forests of the elves, the mines of the dwarves and the lands of Saron

Questions:
1 What would happen if the trace was triggered in a fidelius charmed house would it work?
2 What would happen if you polyjuiced into a viela are they the same species? It works when Fleur does it and she’s 1/4
1. I guess they would notice underage magic but not be able to locate it.
2. Fleur turns into a human, it's not they someone turns into a veela. But that's interesting. Personally I think you would be able to turn into 1/4 or even 1/2 veela but not into 'full' veela.
Honestly, I never really thought of Veela as being a different "species" so to speak, especially since they can have children with humans, I always kinda thought it was like a charm on the bloodline or something. Maybe the first Veela were like a tribe of witches who were "blessed" with good looks and a sort of non-intentional magic that radiated from them, (maybe similar in effect to a love potion) by a magical creature or something and it has just passed on to their descendants through the bloodline, similar to being a parselmouth maybe. I'm sure there's room for a good theory somewhere in here 😂
@@user-or5ke5yn4w Nobody was concerned about Hagrid being a polyjuice imposter after the Battle of the 7 Potters because he's half giant. The implication there being that polyjuice doesn't work on half-human transformations. No telling if 1/4 would also prevent it.
But as to the original question, veela are still different 'species'. Giants and veela can both mate with humans as we have definitive bloodlines with those mixes, the implications are that cross 'species' mating is possible and, at least for the veela, doesn't produce sterile offspring the way breeding a horse and donkey creates a mule (which is always sterile). We don't see Hagrid or Madame Maxine ever produce children so there is no definitive proof half-giants are genetically capable. We obviously see that Madame Delacour (1/2 veela) is genetically capable because Fleur and Gabrielle exist.
The genetic implications of non-sterile offspring of cross-species mating is quite staggering actually. It potentially means that all the magical creatures (that can mate with humans anyway) are different breeds of humans just like a dog can have breeds that produce very different capabilities and looks. Breeding a St. Bernard with a Chihuahua does not produce genetically sterile offspring because they are actually still the same species unlike horses and donkeys.
Back to the polyjuice question, it would imply that polyjuice is fairly specific and I would doubt that any trace of non-base-human (maybe call it magical-humanoid?) dna would be replicable. DNA dilution occurs fairly quickly, however. For example, a dog is considered pure-bred after a 3 generation pedigree. I would guess a similar sort of situation for polyjuice, though 3 generations is not necessarily the required value.
I think if someone were to attempt to transform into Fleur, one of two things would happen. Either there would be a bad transformation like with Hermione, or the polyjuice would replicate Fleur's 'natural' beauty but not her veela charm power that she can seemingly still activate. I would even say that the wizard gene itself is non-base-human and therefore not replicable. Taking polyjuice does not seem to increase or decrease a wizard's abilities even though we know some wizards do in fact have more magical potential than others. A muggle taking polyjuice potion would not be able to perform magic.
@@patricklawson9378 except they can burst into fire
@MeowMeowza37 True, true, however, it could be seen as something akin to a blood curse. Like the Maledictus curse, which is also inherited, and the sufferer transforms into a snake. Perhaps the Veela "curse" is that they become bird-like instead of a snake. The fire part is definitely possible by an average witch, (wandless magic is difficult for students of Hogwarts, but other schools and cultures don't use wands at all and they are successful with their spells) perhaps they just have an affinity for wandless magic, or wandless fire at the very least, and it could just be part of their culture and not a genetic trait. A lot of speculating, but this is the right place for it 😉
I wonder if this pattern is just a common story format for humans. Stories absolutely love groups of 3, so it wouldn't be a stretch to conceive of an 'unbalanced four.' The resurrection is more of a stretch, but life and death are common facets of stories too, so I wouldn't be surprised to find examples that combine both.
MORE NAME OF THE WIND! please

Started reading The Hobbit to my bf after finishing the Harry Potter series and there are soooooo many similarities, it's insane. The 4 main races could represent the 4 houses: Hobbits are obviously Hufflepuffs with their love of food and fun. The Elves would be Ravenclaws but I'm less certain which house Dwarves and Men would be? Men as Gryffindoors and Dwarves as Slytherin?
Men are easily corrupted (even becoming the Nazgul) so Men as Slytherin and dwarfs as Gryffindor I think
I would flip that, men are slytherin and dwarves are gryfindor. It was the men that were easily corrupted by the rings.
