"Packed like sardines in a tin" was a reference to the album cover from the album this song is from, "Hello nasty", which shows the 3 beastie boys side by side in a tin like sardines.
The movie from which some of this footage is sampled is called "Danger: Diabolik". It's an Italian crime/action comic book movie from 1968. The movie was directed by Mario Bava. The music video was directed by Nathanial Hörnblowér, who was definitely a real person and not just MCA in disguise. This is not the album version of the song, but a remix by Fatboy Slim. The album version is also good, but different. The Beastie Boys chose to use the remix in the video simply because they preferred it.
@@StaxReacts If you like Fatboy Slim's production on this, I recommend checking out "The Rockafeller Skank". It's a masterpiece of multi-layer sampling, and it was his big single shortly before the Beastie Boys asked him to do this.
one of the things I love about your journey so far is how much you have grown to respect this group. At one point you couldn't tell when Ad Rock, Mike D, or MCA (RIP) was rapping then now you are like, "With the way that Mike D came in was cold..." Love it!!!
The very first CD I ever bought was "You've Come a Long Way, Baby" when I was 12 years old in 1999. It's still riding with me now 5 cars later😅 Big Beat in the late 90's was amazing, brand new sound.
My absolute favorite Beastie Boys track is Professor Booty - It's kind of a deep cut from the check your head album and nobody ever reacts to it. It would absolutely make my day if you would ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out ❤🙏🏻
Stax, 'packed like sardines in a tin' just a reference to the album cover - google 'Hello Nasty' - first cd I ever bought back in 1998. Beastie Boys knew how to make everything funny!
First *commercially available* rap song which isn't even true as King Tim III (Personality Jock) was released earlier in '79. People had been rapping since the early 70s. Still a banger though.
I'm shocked again a beastie boys music video that i haver never seen before. And i also don't know the movie but i'm a fan of the director mario bava and some of his beautiful horror movies. Now i'm gonna try to get this movie
As others have said this video was inspired by Danger: Diabolik I do NOT recommend this movie unless you watch the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version but even then...
CRASH! Yeah this is the shit, a slightly different version to the album cut but still pure gold. I gotta agree with the others-- 'Hello Nasty' is their best album. I'm guessing that you had copyright problems with LIVE IN GLASGOW 1999 I just hope you enjoyed it in your own time. Its their best live gig. Keep em coming Stax❤ CRASH!
A sorta deep cut from this album I know you'll like is Puttimg Shame in Your Game. You should also check out The Scoop. Some of the best Beastie Boys rhymes are in these songs.
Check it. I need you to take me super seriously when I hit you with this recommendation because I SWEAR you'll want to go down a rabbit hole checking out this band like I did. But first: I've been a Beastie Boys fan --in fact, they'veI been my favorite band-- since I was 9 years up. I grew up listening to these dudes and can honestly say their music has helped keep me alive. They're fun and they joke around a lot, but they are also revolutionary, genuine, and, above all, good people. I'll be 49 this year. and trust me when I say that no other hip hop group has come close to making me feel the way Beastie Boys make me feel than a female rap group from ICELAND of all places. I don't want to spoil anything for you except I will say: Can you imagine Wu Tang Clan except as, like, hip hop lady vikings? I'm a black dude fro the US and I fucking LOVE their shit! So much, in fact, that we exchanged messages with one of the members in 2020 and she semt me a copy of their newest LP on vinyl when I was goes through a super hard time. So, I love these ladies as much as I love Beastie Boys and they are DOPE! Alright, enough selling you on this. Check out "Kalla mig hvað" and "Ógeðsleg" by Daughters of Reykjavik. And I might have smoked a bit. :D Love your reactions, man, and love that you love old school hip hop... especially Beastie Boys and Public Enemy (my other dudes!).
Stax bro when you paused it right before dude got his head chopped off, burst out laughing XD this is the Fatboy Slim remix of their song which was a big hit, that's why it sounds so different to their other stuff
The entire “Hello Nasty” album is definitely 🔥 If you get a chance, you should check it out in a car with subwoofers 👍. “Remote Control” is another great song from the same album.
I had a shattered leg when this CD came out, and that damn remote control song would skip and I wouldn't be able to get up to fix it so I would sit on the couch and throw things at the stereo to try and get it moving past that bass line 😂
@@steviekc9057 lol, that is hilarious. That’s like the song “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin for me. I’ve had that song on a few cd’s (original album, greatest hits, etc.) and invariably it gets a scratch and starts skipping. Now it sounds bizarre if I hear it on the radio and it doesn’t skip. 😂
It's a remix of the album song. It's 82.6832% the same song. It was for FUN. We all know the BB have fun. The "real" song is better but this video is cool.
Okay, one other thing though. It is OBVIOUS that Oliver Tree was hella influenced by these guys!!! Songs - Fu¢k, Essence, Miss You, A$$hole w/Lil' Yachty, Alien Boy... Wait! I'm only supposed to bug you about You Gotta Fight!! But, also Madness by Muse.
Stax what you mentioned about King Ad Rock singing everybody get off the wall was correct but also I don't know if you know but Michael Jackson had a top selling album when he went solo from The Jackson Five called "Off The Wall" because as you know they are always referencing and paying homage to all American Iconic Culture.
I may be in the minority but I prefer the album version. This ok but feels slightly less b-boy(ish) due to somebody outside of the crew tinkered with it. Told you a few weeks ago that 10k was coming quick. Congrats on your channel growth.

This is the FBS remix, and is not on the CD. So cool that they used his version for the video. Original is also amazing.
imo original is wayy better, just my opinion tho

Lets not forget that Fat Boy Slim was the producer of this track. This was a collab of sorts. The Big beat style of FBS mixed with the beasties.
