Having the audience there is great. Excellent content - I liked the demo on both the table saw jig and the dovetail jigs.

Hi Tom. Just a follow-up to my last comment. The table you bring into this video at 7:49 with the compass inlay has much more of what I would call a Gothic Vaulting shape to the legs. More vertical on from floor to mid-way up the curved to the center post. The Shaker version is truly unique and why they stand apart from period makers.

Just as a follow up. To me vaulting an arch is more about the inside curve than the outside curve.

Thank you for another great SNL. I wasn't able to watch on Thursday but I would have said Tom should do a pay per view on the jig performance!

Thanks Rick! Reminds me of a joke we used to tell each other as kids…you would ask your friend “What did you do with the money?” And they would reply, “What money?”, and you say “The money your mother gave you for dancing lessons.” (or insert whatever kind of lessons fits) 😎

H I Tom, great preview for the Shaker Table project, loo!ing forward to this in the near future. Tom, you nailed the process for building the Shaker table, the finished table will be just like the authentic built Shaker table back in its time, but with today's modern methods. Enjoy this weekend and have fun, I know it's going to be a wonderful time with everyone. See you next week on SNL.

For anyone interested in cutting the dovetails by hand, Will Myers over at the Wood and Shop channel demonstrates the process.

Thanks. Yes, that’s a nice video if you choose to go the handcut route. It’s satisfying to cut them by hand, but quite a bit more time-consuming. Especially if you plan to make several at a time. 👍

Hi Tom! The more that I look at your example of this pedestal table the more I understand your disappointment in the shape of the legs. They just lack the the subtle vaulting we see in Shea, pg 183. And it is subtle. But the vaulting is not what i have seen visiting places like Salisbury Cathedral. More subtle. And I don't know if the it is the difference in distance from the center point of the spindle projected to the floor to the inside of the leg or the width of the legs as the rise from the floor to the spindle. I suspect the former. But it gives me great pleasure to ponder these reasons.
And the second example you show is much more "vaulted" in the legs as the first example. and I think the inside of the legs to the projected center is shorter than your first example. So maybe subtlety split the difference? Thanks as always!
PPS: Should have watched to the end to see how you addressed the above issue!
    Thanks

Thanks Doug! I love the subtleties of this design as well. They made them in many variations and I have been altering my design slightly over the years in pursuit of “perfection.” I did redo my design shortly after this video and actually created full-size drawings and video course for making the table…which you may have already seen. It’s on our website epicwoodworking.com if you are interested and haven’t seen it.
Sounds like we are a lot alike when it comes to enjoying design contemplation! 😎👍

@@EpicWoodworking I will definitely look at your plans/videos for this project. I just enrolled with a makers space called the Artisans Asylum in Boston, MA. Now I have access to the large woodworking shop tools needed for this project. Thanks again.

Thank you for watching all the way from the UK! 😎 I’m not exactly sure which you are referring to by “other table” but we have two types of small round table plans on our site which you can find at our website link here: www.epicwoodworking.com/online-courses. Hope that helps! 👍

@@susanmorgan166 Hi Susan, Camera Lady here. If you mean the one Tom refers to as "a slender candle stand" around 03:13, we aren't able to help you with plans for that piece at this time. We have an Online Course and Plans for the table Tom highlights, just after on the right, as well as a contemporary version. You may have seen those at the link above. But the one you seem to be referencing is not one for which we have resources. Wish I knew where else to direct you. Take care!
