This was my first car. I was 21 and put all my savings towards it. It almost took me 3 months to learn how to drive it since I had never drove stick before but omg I miss it so much
Was this by chance for sale in Portland OR? I believe I saw it listed at a dealer a few months back and was drooling over it.
@@benhogervorst No I don’t think so. A few years later my dad drove it and got T-Boned. Everyone was ok but the car wasn’t :(
I ended up buying a clapped protege for my first car when I was 16, insane car. Im 20 now and don't regret it at all, even after the money I dumped into it for it to breakdown lmfao. Turbo sounded insane, handles like a go-kart and thing was LIGHT. That little bit of horsepower on it means nothing with the amount of weight the car has lol.
Always liked these mazdaspeeds. Not many people know about them.

I have one of this but an 03 protege have been sitting for almost 3 years
I didn't know they existed 72 hours before I bought mine a month ago. Got kinda lucky and the guy I was buying from didn't know what he had/the value of all the bolt ons. Best car I've had in a long time
Bought the car brand new in 03.5. Worst car I've ever owned honestly. But I could of bought a lemon. Tranny blew at 52k. Had issues the entire time if ownership
@@TheSoapiestWanger tranny is a weak point, if you hammered it good for those 52k miles that is expected with these by now. Honestly the community is tight nit, and by now any and all issues with these (like a tranny blowing at 52k) has not only been solved but is still brought up pretty quick if you ask the right questions. There are Facebook groups for these cars that are actually non-toxic and nothing but helpful. That alone makes these cars amazing
I drive a 21 mazda3 turbo sedan today and I’d flip it in a second for one of these. I had a base spec 00 protege manual back in the day and that car made me fall in love with Mazda. Never looked back. Awesome build. Super clean sound and killer stance.
My most favorite car I've ever owned.
Had a MS6 but always wanted a Protege.. the look of this car is insane. I love it! Clean build man take care of it they're starting to get very rare in that condition

Sorry I haven't replied right away but my build is going okay took apart the transmission the motor everything now getting ready to put it back in the car we did the cabin so hopefully I'll have some pictures soon

My friends brother had an orange mazdaspeed protege that he took real good care of and when he decided to sell it I asked my dad to help me buy it but it wasn't meant to be sadly. Would've been an awesome 1st car

@@sportmotive8008 the waste gate actuator! Boost cuts out and it feels like a huge air leak, like someone locked up the brakes.

Sweet ride!!!......What brand of radiator is it you are using and how do I get one for my own? I've got an "automatic" so the transmission cooler is included in the bottom radiator tank....I need the extra cooling capacity as its the 1.6 VVT which is now also Turbocharged .....If anyone knows where I can order one please let me know. Thanks
What you see there exsposed on the front is a heat exchanger (hot air cooler). The Turbo is spun using hot exhaust gasses, plus it's 9 pounds of boost (stock has 6#'s) the compressed air will get very hot. If you own an air compressor you will notice it gets very hot. The more the boost, the hotter the air, the bigger the cooler needs to be. Cooler air makes more power, lots more!
@@hazel-annpadilla9208 Yes I also have a Turbo Inter-cooler or heat exchanger as you said mounted at the front similar to yours, but I was referring to the main radiator for the engine itself where you put the coolant / anti freeze / water to cool the engine.....that radiator Mishimoto is it?? Where can I get one? Thanks much..
