Successfully dressed up to be instantly recognised as a Brit in Germany. Well done Ollie. 😂 I like the idea of the more flexible seat post on the Scott aero bike. And no, you don‘t want to see me in a skinsuit.
As time goes on, those aero gains get smaller and smaller, AND are measured at higher and higher speeds. Now Castelli estimates a gain of 2m at 70km/h (on what distance?!?) 🤣
Thank you for sharing all the tech from Eurobike. I really enjoy all the small details being pointed out. Topeak never fails to impress with their new products
So envious of your Lederhosen. I;m sure they will be the new cycling shorts of the tour riders. 😅 Great presentation Ollie. A lot of work and so much to see. It must be overwhelming.
Balls to the wall actually dates to steam engine centrifugal governors. When the balls were spinning at their maximum (ie wide open throttle) it was known as "balls out" or "balls to the wall". It makes sense if you look at a diagram of on of those devices.
Your dress is ON POINT - Just like a scottish kilt in Wales 🤣 Anyways, very glad to have you in the neighborhood! Sad that I wont make it to EB when it's just around the corner. Have a great time and enjoy all the new tech! Cheers!
Someone needs to tell Ollie that Eurobike isn’t in Bavaria - Saying all Germans wear Lederhosen is like saying all Brits wear Kilts and eat fried Mars Bars. :)
I can just see a future gravel assignment for Ollie ... white shoes, white onesee, white bike ... but black saddle ... 'cause ... you know ... white would be hard to keep clean ... 😆 ... (sorry Ollie, couldn't help myself). Great reviews ... thanks for 'bringing' us along.
FYI: Balls to the wall you mention is correct... But there is also Balls Out, meaning old steam trains had this spinning power governor control system that had two balls. The faster it spun the centrifugal forces forced them outward until they reached their outer limit, so engineers called going full speed on a steam powered train "BALLS OUT" fast. Ahhh, got a love them balls.
And I hope you gave yourself a German name, Ollie, for good local vibes. I like the name Roland. And thanks for this look at aero and light tech. You know we'd be steamed out here in GCNland if you didn't cover it. And whew, glad you didn't take out those e-bike choppers when you pulled onto the demonstration track in that pod bike. 😀
Dig the Lederhosen bibdshorts 🤣 , the rest are good choices 👌 a 'onesy' with pockets just makes so much sense because it is much more comfortable than bibdshorts and a shirt. Also reduces dressing time.
I was always taught that BTW came from the First Industrial Revolution, 200 years ago, referring to governors on steam generators for powering machinery.
That concept bike looks so good though. Slack geometry, gonna be comfortable. I do like those podbikes. Some people at my last school from the engineering side made a 3 wheel recumbent covered bike. They put a front wing on to make it look more sporty, turns out it changes angles at speed and turns into a dynamic wing to stabilise the front. Which was needed because the design was rushed and the prototype wasn't the most ridable thing lol Really should get one of those ratchet sets
I like one piece skinsuits/jerseys whatever you might call it. Just a dat bit pricey for wearing it to your usual coffee ride... DMT shoes are ridiculous. So happy to get my hands on a pair of a 2018 model KR-2. They weight next to nothing, I confirm.
@@einundsiebenziger5488 Roads in Canada are crap becuase of frost heave, so more comfortable and less rolling resistance as well, only really starts to be advantageous above 32 km/h on A+ road surfaces, so it's a wash anyway.
For anyone wondering how much the podbike costs - it's around 6200-6900 Euros. Difficult to find the price on their website, even the preorder page doesn't mention the actual price. Not sure what they're thinking. Seems to be a decent price compared to other velomobiles, though it's definitely not as aerodynamic.
Dear Ollie, I was at 2016 Eurobike when Silca introduced a wheel balance kit and ever since wheel balance has become a growing subject among high-end consumers. So, it's now 2022, has anyone come out with an easy-to-use wheelset balance system? I can promise you by mid 2023 this system will be released, and it's called DSB technology, featured on Rotational Crafters wheelsets. These wheels are going to flip the entire high end wheelset market on its ear. Ollie, Stay Tuned...
Recently watched a few "dream build" videos where the mechanics would zip-tie Di2 derailleur wire to the frame and use zip-ties and foam-padding to wrap internally routed wires to stop them from rattling inside the frame. So the zip tie thing is not an FSA exclusive.
9:14 You do realize that saving 2 meters going at about 70kmh means saving something like 0.1 seconds? I wouldnt personally describe this as HUUUUUUGE SAVINGS

"GCN auf Deutsch" gotta bring their bag pipe if they're ever reporting from the UK.
It's only fair

Lots of cool tech but out of it all - that DT Swiss coffee tamper is what got me the most excited.
I can't be the only one that giggled at "the cassette goes to 11". Good one, Nigel.
Glad someone spotted the Spinal Tap reference
Happy to give this one it’s 11th thumbs up 👍

Dr Ollie. This guy I tell ya. One who deserves the admiration of appreciation
Making me smile really like GNC Tech, and Ollie always enthusiastic.
Ollie was very lucky to get in.. If I had been the doorman.. I wouldn't have let him in 😂

Thanks to vivid presentation! It’s good to be able to experience the fair with a great presenter like you Ollie.
Ollie: white saddles are too hard to keep clean.
Also Ollie: I want the white shoes
😂
I said the same.
IMO, white contrasting against black, white seat, pedals, bar tape and shoes, on a black bike is "Super nice". Ring the cowbell.
That Pod Bike is cool. I had something like this back around 1985. As a 7 year old...
No no no. Balls to the wall is in reference to the rotating governor on a steam engine.
ua-cam.com/video/zoBWAE0win0/v-deo.html
The same device is also commonly used on elevators to activate the safety (brakes) to prevent it from falling too fast in an emergency.
FSA’s modern rear derailleur 0:33 with a zip tie, nice.
Don't forget the wood screw!
It'll be to stop someone nicking it I bet 😁
I was also like „available soon“, yeah right if they can’t even properly mount in on their demo bike yet
Man, I've missed these trade show tech videos!
Castelli one piece are all I use now, just love the comfort when training/racing.
I need that DTSwiss coffee tamper in my life!
Thanks Ollie! I learned about a phrase I have been using most of my life(BTW)! Never really researched it but now I know! Cheers!

I wonder why FSA is a distant 4th in the Component Wars ... maybe it's because the rear mech is zip-tied on? Not looking very professional.
