Growing up I knew of and listened to plenty of gay rappers but it always got frustrating knowing they'd never blow up or nobody would take their music seriously, regardless of their talent. While lnx isn't making music I would enjoy I understand it's this music that would allow him to be visible to the people who need to see him

This is such an iconic debut album from Lil Nas X it's going to be remembered for a long time especially with that incredible album rollout he gave us all year long
I grew up in a conservative household and have always struggled with same-sex relationships due to bad parenting. While I have always supported lgbtq marriage and had no issue with individuals themselves, it was hard to shake what I had been taught for decades. Montero is the perfect example of why representation matters. Lil Nas X created an album about his love life (the ups, the downs, and his pursuit of love) - and I found it to be so beautiful. This record really touched me, and i was able to connect with his experiences. While I have always been for people loving whoever they want, I still had prejudice and bias in my heart. But i mean it when I say this album opened up my heart to his experiences, and made me realize how we are all the same. This comment probably comes off as dumb. I don’t really know how to explain myself. I just know this album really moved me, and opened my heart and mind. I have always felt ashamed for my upbringing. I’m just glad as an adult i was able to grow and change. I agree with Kid Cudi that Lil Nas X is going to be an important figure that will help break the walls down. I know as an ignorant man who grew up in a prejudice household, this album spoke to me - and made me realize how beautiful love can actually be.
I’m glad it helped you come to accept us more! That totally makes sense. I think this album is great because the songs portray how queer love is no different than hetero love. We have the same struggles and desires, painful break ups, loneliness, etc. Sure, us LGBTQ+ people have some extra struggles obviously, but our feelings of love and relationships work the same way. And it might be uncomfortable for straight people since they don’t see it often, but I think the provocative scenes actually made an important point about how much more stigmatized queer sexuality is. If the the music videos with gay flirting/sexiness had been hetero, people wouldn’t have been as mad. Makes it obvious that it’s not really about how explicit something is, it’s about whether or not it’s “deviant” for being openly gay in the same ways straight rappers have been openly straight.
It doesn’t sound dumb. I’ve watched that happen in real time on reactions to the That’s What I Want video. Under all the “shock value” (🙄 old school metal head and LGBTQ+ ally here-not shocked) and trolling, he’s able to be relatable af.
props to you for learning to break through learned prejudice and being able to open your heart to people who don’t share your same love life. it means a lot as someone in the lgbt+ community to hear someone say that they learned and decided not to keep hatred in their heart just because we love different people
Your comment isn't dumb at all, I really appreciate it. I'm gay but i struggled many years to accept myself and overcoming the internalized homophobia and shame. So I know how you might have felt and also deeply undertand what Lil Nas is portraying on his lyrics. I wish I had a referent like him 20 years ago, but at least I can now be happy that millions around the world have him.
i’m saying this now, Lil Nas X made one of the most significant songs ever “Montero” a gay mainstream rap/pop song from a poc. And i love that he doesn’t put himself or actions down to please the general audience, he’s just himself. this is really important
Jon's got a very good balance of sensitivity and passion but also perception and analytic ability. I always find myself thinking "I'm so glad he noticed that". Such a great artist. His music is consistent and he’s a marketing genius. When it comes to the album, I really like it, but the main problem is that the pacing is off. I still think INDUSTRY BABY should’ve been the intro track with the brass melody. Just works so well as an intro. Montero does too, but still

Dude I have 2 game changing recommendations: 1. Abra Cadabra - Product of My Environment (UK). 2. Tory Lanez - Playboy (sonically one of the best current R&B albums out)
I know this might be an odd comparison, but listening to "Montero" reminded me of when I heard Adele's "19" the first time - thinking "good first album, and I'm excited to see where they go with their second album". Hopefully Lil Nas X's second will be like "21".
Nice NordVPN sponsor Jon! I loved this album and I'm impressed how much better of a Pop-rap album this is compared to CLB. Loved it and is tied with Donda as my 2nd fav album this year! 9/10.
Not going to lie, when I heard this album, I just wanted to go back over 10 years to B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray. At one point, B.o.B was one of the most talented guys in the industry. He could rap, sing, write, play guitar, drums, trumpet, piano, produce his own beats, etc. He was cut from a different cloth than every other rapper from the same era, J. Cole, Kendrick, Big Sean, Cudi, Wale, etc. He leaned pretty heavy into trying to introduce more rock influences into his music, and he was kind of crucified for it at the time; but there's no denying he paved the way for artists like Raury and Lil Nas X. It's a shame because the intense backlash against B.o.B for exploring his creativity has kind of pushed him more back toward a more standard ATL trap artist sound, and then we see praise for artists doing it now. Not to undermine Lil Nas X, but he has a huge team behind him, from marketing, to production, to songwriters, to video choreographers, etc. If anyone really digs current Lil Nas X, I highly recommend giving old Bobby Ray a shot. If you need an example B.o.B - No Man's Land

This is what I wanted from a reaction. Very well done👍
This album will change the industry for sure
I know this might be an odd comparison, but listening to "Montero" reminded me of when I heard Adele's "19" the first time - thinking "good first album, and I'm excited to see where they go with their second album". Hopefully Lil Nas X's second will be like "21".
This album took a couple listens for me, but after a few listens i think its a classic
Found out in his Zane Lowe interview that the horns in industry baby were Kanye (hence the producer credit)
Jon Denton is valid with reactions. I know he’s a UK guy but if he moved to LA he’d blow up on UA-cam. Love watching him.
Best reactions on UA-cam! Such a nice, funny guy
Love your channel, can't wait to the dawn drops so you react to it
I dig the spider-man mug, and great reaction as always Jon!!
I am all for adds when they’re from my favourites, you and cosmonaut variety hour are in that bracket for me
Life After Salem I see in a buildup in a movie or something it's got that insane movie drop imo
Nice NordVPN sponsor Jon! I loved this album and I'm impressed how much better of a Pop-rap album this is compared to CLB. Loved it and is tied with Donda as my 2nd fav album this year! 9/10.
What's your favourite?
Do The Underachievers-Indigoism, Evermore-the Art of Duality reaction!!
Lost in the citadel definitely my fav
Aye Jon with the sponsor!!!! congrats!
dead right now might be my favorite track
jon you have to post some jujitsu clips
This album is so fucking good. Thanks for remembering this back to me
Not going to lie, when I heard this album, I just wanted to go back over 10 years to B.o.B vs.
If you need an example
